Michelle and I headed down to San Pedro to attend the 5 x 7 art show opening at Pins & Needles Underground. Sorry to say that if you were not there, you sure missed out. As we arrived to the small event you could see artists overflowing into the alley and front street. It was very crowded but well worth the trip.

Miniature works of art 5" x 7" was the theme and every style and type of medium goes. As you guessed it, there were works by all of the top artist's, Nikko Hurtado, Franco Vescovi, Tom Berg, Kari Barba, and Jeff Gogue to name just a few. There was so much good art there it was hard to pick a favorite.
There were 57 artists that contributed art in the show and Sullen Clothing was a sponsor.

It was so great to meet some of my inspirations and meet up with some old friends as well. I really hope this becomes an annual show. Next year I would like to get a piece up on those walls myself. Award Winning Artist Jason Dunn Tattoos in San Diego's Tattoolapalooza on Halloween

This past weekend was so much fun! I took the crew down to Tattoolapalooza in San Diego. I started Friday off with a bang by tattooing a Bride of Frankenstein on Scott's roommate. I had fun with this one and took the liberty of adding some blood and spider webs in the hair. Halloween day was great because I got to tattoo one of my favorite airbrush artists Cory Saint Clair. Cory sat for several hours as I meticulously tattooed a japanese hannya mask on his hand. All of his pain was well worth it because I won 2nd place trophies for best hand and best small color tattoo.

During the tattooing, the Enigma and Serena Rose performed a freak show for all to see. Enigma turned out to be a really interesting and cool guy. In between tattoos I got to wander around in my Popeye outfit and network with many of the artists and check out their booths. World renowned tattoo machine builder, Dan Dringenberg showed up with an array of beautiful tattoo machines. Man is his scroll filigree carving getting good! Catfish Carl and Tommy Gun were on one side of us and the guys from
Rat A Tatt Tatt Tattoo studio (Fullerton, Ca) were on the other.

When Sunday rolled around both of my helpers/artists were no where to be found. Michelle was getting her commemorative Jack O' Lantern tattoo put on her ankle by none other than one of Rat a Tatt Tatt's bad ass artists Rob. Good Job man! As for Scott, he was off getting his work photographed and showing off his incredible new saw-blade tattoo done by Nathan Kostchecko. I'm coming to see you soon Nathan and congratulations on the win!

And as for me, well I spent the night before trying to find a good picture of Animal Chin from the Bones Brigade skate board movies to do on a walk in customer Brent's inner arm. This was an extremely challenging piece for me to do because my reference picture was so small. Either way, I was excited because I got to use the new rotary steampunk style tattoo machine I purchased from master rotary machine builder and artist, Ugly Bill. I think the piece came out so great I had to give that machine another whirl and do a Popeye Jack O' Lantern commemorative tattoo on myself. Yes... It really hurt!

All in all we had an amazing weekend! Me and Michelle even stayed a few extra days and went to Sea World to top it all off. I want to personally thank the promoters Frank LaNatra and Mickey and all who helped make this an enjoyable time. See you guys in Florida!

Artist Jason Dunn Tattoos Alien Ant Farm

THE TATTOO

The other day my friend Terry Corso, guitartist for the band Alien Ant Farm came over to get his neck tattooed. Terry's been asking me to tattoo some roses on the side of his neck for a while now. He said this will be a tribute to his life, so we put the words "Life's a Song" in a banner amongst the roses.

I know Terry was interested in doing his piece in color so I suggested we try for an antique feel to the overall design. I think it turned out real nice. Maybe we'll do one more pass on it and put the apostrophe in this time. lol

What do you think?

THE MUSIC

Terry claims "My life is like a song" With all the trials and tribulation involved in trying to live the musicians lifestyle from getting a record deal to touring around the world and all the ups and downs that come along with that.

Alien Ant Farm had a hit with Michael Jackson's song "Smooth Criminal" several years ago and have had many difficulties as a band having to survive a horrific deadly crash in Spain when there tour bus hit another vehicle.

Since then... Terry has toured for a while playing guitar with Powerman 5000 and now he is doing a side project with singer
Aaron Wilson, drummer, Mike Cosgrove and bassist Michael Grajewski under the name Ghost in the Flesh. You can

After about 5 hours of tattooing we got a chance to catch up and I believe the tattoo is only fitting. Now if I can only talk him into that backpiece he's always wanted! hint hint
