Guardsmark just took over my former employers account and displaced fulltime security officers and receptionists who on average had over 20 years with the company and were making 20 plus dollars and hour with 13 dollar an hour idiots. The account manager will make 50,000 a year. The average security officer made more than that! Also they are requiring detailed information from anyone wanting to stay in violation of their HIPPA rights! I have forwarded this information to SEIU local for urgent action! I am a conservative person, but unions have their uses and this is a case were they are badly needed!

Will labor stick to its guns? The one problem labor has is it needs to either start running candidates in races, or significantly funding primaries to incumbent candidates.

Indeed, definitely can't shop at either store if there's going to be scab labor running the place. Using scab labor is not in *anyone's* best interest. Remember that Shoppers is also union, and so if shopping at Giant or Safeway will require crossing a picket line, I'll go to Shoppers and shop union there.

I'm glad you've sought out help and I'm sure it's made a huge difference. Since I have an anxiety disorder I too have done therapy and it's helped a great deal. I haven't begun to address my issues pertaining to my teenage years and bullying though.

I needed years of psychotherapy to help me understand those feelings and I still have to practice mindfulness, meditation, and continual reflection to change my first responses. In fact it's only recently I've been able to take pride in being Armenian & Greek. When that ethnic difference, like yours Jason, was part of what got my shoulder bruised in the h.s. hall weekly.

More people should become vegans...no more slaughter houses, no more feeding helpess animals corn feed (which produces the deadly E.Coli strain created in cows by not giving them grass), no more oppressing, abusing and exploiting the earth, animals and other humans. Let's screw the food system and stick to natural foods that you can cook at home without meat...it's not that difficult to do. Try going vegan for a week and see the difference :)

By the way, please don’t mention the REASON that Mitt Romney’s dad was born in Mexico (i.e. The fact that Mitt’s Mormon grand-dad left the United States in the 1880’s. He went to Mexico BECAUSE laws against polygamy were passed in the U.S. ; Being a Mormon back then, Mitt’s grand-dad wanted to keep his multiple wives. Hey, who wouldn’t?) Bottom line: if we follow the “logic” of the people crying crocodile tears about a non-existent “war on religion”, then the U.S. should have allowed polygamy (and who knows what else) just because a particular religion claimed it as their cherished belief. GIVE ME A BREAK!
Absolutely NO ONE is coming into our Churches or places of worship and trying to tell parishioners what to believe.....or forcing them to use contraception. BUT If the Bishops (and other denominations) want to continue running businesses that employ millions of people of varying faiths -or no "faith" at all- THEN they must play by the same rules and rights that other workers have and enjoy...especially if their businesses use our tax dollars (and skip paying taxes) in the process. This is not a “war on religion”. It’s a war on women and men who simply want to plan their families and control their future. Now that’s REAL religious liberty!

And I might point out that people are reading more newspapers than ever, they just dont know it. Go onto yahoo news or google news. See that byline AP or UPI? That means that the story you just read was a licensed story from a newspaper that has been slightly changed (not rewritten like the huffpo) for a national audience. The story was given to the AP or UPI on license and distributed, but was originally written by the Times-Leader, Daily Gazette, Post-Dispatch or whatever. The AP and UPI are collectives owned equally by all newspapers. There has been talk of disbanding them so that all stories link to the original stories.

Actually, the flagship paper is fine. Their profits and revenues are up. Techies haven't been reporting this cause they dont understand financial statements. The NYT company is many papers, in AGGREGATE their revenues were slightly down. Actually the worst performer was their internet property About.com. So... Dont worry about thr NYT paper itself. The paywall saved the paper. I would be happy to elaborate.

And elsewhere I read that out of approximately $300 million raised in 2009, they only spent 17% of that money on cure activities. And it doesn't speak very well of the SGK org. that they'd hire a known RWNJ to begin with, unless they are a RWNJ organization in sheep's clothing.

You forgot about the "downsell" on the human dignity - retail SUCKS!

I woke up after working for nearly ten years in different retail environments. It's *horrible* for the disabled when the shiny new managers cannot understand the meaning of "reasonable accommodations." Then they get mad when the disabled are, well, "disabled" from doing their jobs without the accommodations. The Department of Labor does not really track the jobless rates of abled vs. disabled - I've seen a ratio of 50% in the DoL lobby time after time.

The dot-com era "Action Man" managers who think it's all about LOOKING like you're accomplishing something make me want to roll my eyes.

They have no idea how fast they are really burning the bottom line when around half the store is turning over less than a year after they arrive, and they have the stupidity to claim that they're changing things for the better :(
