We pray that all went well and that John is back home soon keeping an eye on Jasper Jottings. We pray that all was free of any complication. I will update you as soon as I hear from John.
Rudy, the Manhattan College community is embarrassed by you.

# – # – #

The hubris of some people to speak for the entire “manhattan college” community … …

…

… … Sorry, but I am not sure what the “manhattan college community” is?

Nor, am I sure that one person can truly represent it — whatever it is.

One can express scorn for Rudy in many many dimensions,

BUT, (and there is always a BIG butt),

“Let he, who is without sin, cast the first stone.”

I’m sure that I heard that may times in my Christian Brothers’ classrooms.

So, I’m not going to agree to “stone” Rudy.

I’m not so sure he’s the exemplar of what Jasper should be. But, since I haven’t been in his moccasins, nor can I apply for the “exemplar” status, all I can do is urge some humility in our public pronouncements.

Father James E. Burke
Posted Thursday, October 10, 2019 12:00 am

Father James E. Burke, who served for 15 years as pastor of Sacred Heart parish on Staten Island, died Oct. 4. He was 87.

Father Burke was assigned to Sacred Heart from 1988 to 2003.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday, Oct. 10, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of the John Cardinal O’Connor Pavilion in the Bronx. Cardinal Dolan will celebrate the Mass, and Father Louis Jerome, pastor of St. Charles parish on Staten Island, will deliver the homily.

Father Jerome began working with Father Burke at Sacred Heart on Sept. 8, 2001, serving as administrator before he became pastor of Sacred Heart in 2003.

“He helped people by getting a Mass together for that week, celebrating the Mass and counseling people after 9/11,” Father Jerome, who was pastor of Sacred Heart for 12 years, told CNY.

“I think we lost eight or nine people on 9/11. He was very good in helping grieving people.”

Father Jerome said he visited with Father Burke a few months ago at the John Cardinal O’Connor Pavilion, where Father Burke had lived since his retirement in 2007.

“He loved the John Cardinal O’Connor residence. He was very happy there,” Father Jerome said.

Born in Manhattan, he earned a bachelor’s degree from St. Joseph’s Seminary, Dunwoodie, where he studied for the priesthood, and a master’s from Manhattan College. He was ordained by Cardinal Francis Spellman at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1958.

He was administrator of Assumption, Maybrook, 1987-1988, and St. Columbanus, Cortlandt Manor, 1985-1987. He served as parochial vicar of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, Pelham Manor, 2003-2007; St. Patrick, Yorktown Heights, 1981-1985; St. Bartholomew, Yonkers, 1959-1964; St. Mary, Wappingers Falls, 1958-1959; and Immaculate Conception, Amenia, 1958.

Father Burke served at Cardinal Spellman High School, the Bronx, as an administrative assistant, 1977-1981, and procurator, 1974-1977, and was on the faculty of Cardinal Hayes High School, the Bronx, 1964-1974.

Burial will take place in St. Raymond Cemetery, the Bronx.

Campus Chapel in Need of Repairs

Posted on October 8, 2019 by The Quadrangle in News, Top Stories

by JESSICA MCKENZIE, Staff Writer

Since it was built in the late 19th century, Manhattan College has proudly shown the Chapel of De La Salle to prospective students and parents. Recently, however, students who frequent the chapel have noticed caution tape wrapped around a number of the pews inside. During this year’s Fall Convocation, which was held in the chapel, a few students even found drywall atop their seats in the pews.

*** begin quote ***

“I have so many good memories there. It’s disheartening to see that not everybody cares about the chapel as much as I do,” she said.

In the meantime, Matthew McManness, vice president of finance and chief financial officer of Manhattan College, is the process of getting estimates on the repair of the roof, facade and parapet. Hopefully, this will remove any of the water issues in the chapel.

Once estimates are received, we can count on some progress for De La Salle.

“Work will begin as safely and as soon as possible,” McManness confirmed.

*** end quote ***

[JR: Well, that’s upsetting to hear.]

Press Release: Pace University Names Jerry McKinstry Director of Public Affairs in Westchester

Longtime journalist, media pro joins Pleasantville Campus

Jerry McKinstry, a former journalist and seasoned communications executive who has held an impressive and unique combination of roles in news media, government, and public relations agencies in the region, has been named director of Public Affairs for Pace University in Westchester County.

McKinstry has spent much of his career – as a journalist and communications professional – in Westchester County and the Hudson Valley, and has served a broad array of clients in higher education, banking, biotechnology, government, real estate, not-for-profits and economic development, among other areas.

“Jerry is well-known and well-respected for his knowledge and understanding of the region, and his ability to get the job done,” said Pace President Marvin Krislov. “His experience, coupled with his long-standing roots and community ties, are great assets for Pace University, our students, faculty and staff. We’re excited to have him on board.”

In his role at Pace, McKinstry will manage media relations efforts and work closely with President Krislov, Provost Vanya Quiñones, members of the administration and faculty at Pace University’s six schools on media, community relations, and partnerships with businesses and organizations in Westchester County and the region.

Prior to joining Pace, Jerry was director of strategic communications at Harrison Edwards PR in Armonk, N.Y. and previously served as former Westchester County Executive Robert P. Astorino’s deputy communications director where he worked closely on public policy and government initiatives.

His journalism background spans newspapers, magazines, television, radio and digital platforms. McKinstry was a columnist and Editorial Board member for Newsday where he was responsible for coverage of New York State politics and policy issues pertaining to the northern suburbs of New York City and the Hudson Valley. Prior to Newsday, Jerry was an investigative reporter and political correspondent for The Journal News/LoHud.com, a Gannett media division, where he covered county government, state affairs and politics. During his nearly 12 years with Gannett, he covered many beats and municipalities in the region.

For more than four years, he co-hosted a weekly radio talk show, The Sounding Board, on WVOX 1460 AM in New Rochelle. He was also a regular contributor to Westchester Magazine and 914Inc. While at The Journal News, McKinstry was also an adjunct professor of journalism and media.

A native of Yonkers, he received a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and Economics from Manhattan College and a Master’s of Science degree in Print and Online Journalism from Iona College. He lives in Ridgefield, Conn. with his wife, two children, and rescue lab.

Ralph Rj Joseph
49 mins ·
A Show of Support for Recovery and Healing

Dear Friends & Family,

As you know a friend of mine (from Manhattan College radio days) didn’t make it out of his home when a Cessna’s engine failed and the plane crashed into Jerry’s home in Lagrangeville, NY on August 17th. His daughter, Sarah, was able to flee, but does suffer emotionally as a result of this traumatic event. Sarah’s sister, Hannah, escaped the home with critical burns throughout her body and remains in Westchester Medical Center. Pray for the family. If you care to write a note or send a card, Jerry’s cousin has given me Hannah’s address at Westchester. The address is:
Hannah Bocker, 80 Woods Road, PO Box 299, Valhalla, NY 10595

Thank you, Facebook community for your thoughts and the power to touch someone in need.
Have a wonderful day.
