Russian architects Arch Group have designed a booth for taking a quick nap in busy urban environment Called Sleepbox. It's a 2 x 1.4 x 2.3m cubicle into which is a skinny bed, an LCD TV and power outlets. The sheets are changed automatically, a continuous roll of bed linen winds across the mattress.The architects explain:

SLEEPBOX is a small mobile space (box) 2mx1.4mx2.3m (h). The main functional element in it is a bed 2×0.6 m, which is equipped with automatic system of change of bed linen. Bed is soft, flexible strip of foamed polymer with the surface of the pulp tissue. Tape is rewound from one shaft to another, changing the bed. If a client wants to sleep in maximum comfort, he can take the normal set of bed linen for an extra fee.

After the clients exit, automatic change of bed linen starts and quartz lamps turns on. Payment can be made on a shared terminal, which provides the client with an electronic key. It is possible to buy from 15 minutes to several hours.

SuperSpeed USB 3.0 tranfers 16Gb/s by NEC

Engineers at NEC have come up with a new technique to boost the speed at which data can be transferred over USB to 16Gb/s. The new technology increases the upper speed of USB 3.0 from an already rapid 5Gb/s to 16Gb/s. A dual-layer DVD to be transferred under five seconds and an entire Bluray disc in just 25 seconds.

“This procedure greatly reduces the nearest-neighbor inter-bit interference in the signal waveform and thus successfully alleviates the issue of feedback-time constraint inherent in conventional equalizers,” NEC’s scientists claimed. NEC newly developed high-speed communication interface technology utilizing binary transmission schemes enable data rates of 16 Gb/s. Now the next step is to wait for the licensing bodies to license the new technology and open the doors for its use at a commercial level.

Google is getting into the broadband business.They are planning to build and test ultra high-speed broadband networks in a small number of trial locations across the United States. They will deliver Internet speeds more than 100 times faster than what most Americans have access to today with 1 gigabit per second, fiber-to-the-home connections. They plan to offer service at a competitive price to at least 50,000 and potentially up to 500,000 people.Their goal is to experiment with new ways to help make Internet access better and faster for everyone. Here are some specific things that Google's is thinking:

Next generation apps: Google wants to see what developers and users can do with ultra high-speeds, whether it's creating new bandwidth-intensive "killer apps" and services.

The company closed its office in Dubai Internet City and founder and CEO Jim Morrison is believed to have left the country, ITP.net reported.

Staff were told to take compulsory two-month unpaid leave in an e-mail last Wednesday, according to employees, but the next day received information that the operation was closing and found the office locked.

HP DreamScreen- Digital picture frame by HP

HP launched a new category of devices called DreamScreens.

DreamScreens can connect to a wireless or wired network, allowing users to access their Facebook feeds, listen to music through Pandora or check photos through Snapfish, among other things. The idea is to provide built-in widgets that can bring information that users would otherwise have to go to their PCs for, says HP.

“Constant, always-on access to friends, information and entertainment is a common expectation today,” says Satjiv Chahil senior vice president, worldwide marketing, with HP. “With DreamScreen, social media, web services and digital entertainment can be enjoyed in more areas of the home.”

The screens, which will start at $250 for a 10-inch display, come with 2 GB of built-in memory. (HP also offers a 13-inch version.) Customers can load digital content using a USB drive or most types of flash memory cards, says HP.

But so far, widgets available for the DreamScreen are limited to weather, Facebook, Pandora and SmartRadio, a service that aggregates streams of live net broadcasts and a few other selections. HP says it plans to introduce more widgets that users can add to the screen. But unless HP can have a thriving app store that offers a wide variety of programs from gaming to productivity tools, the HP DreamScreen seems pretty limited in its usefulness.

iPhone beats BlackBerry in radiation emission survey

The latest report from the US Environmental Working Group (EWG) contains radiation rankings for top brand mobile phones, including those from Motorola, BlackBerry and iPhone. And the report makes grim reading for RIM, with handsets from that firm joining those from Motorola and T-Mobile (US) in the top ten worst phones in terms of radiation exposure.

All models tested are within current international limits, but the EWG warns that consumers should try to buy phones with the lowest level of radiation emission, to be on the safe side.

The test measures the Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) for different handsets. SAR is a means by which the amount of radiation passed from a device to a human body is assessed. The internationally-accepted safe limit of exposure to the head and trunk of a body is SAR 2W/Kg. Some say this should be set lower.

the iPhone 3G secured a maximum score of 1.19 W/kg, putting the device outside the top ten least ‘radiating’ phones. However, news is worse for the competition: the ten devices with the highest radiation levels are:

Dubai Metro System

The Dubai Metro system will have 4 lines - Red, Green, Blue and Purple

The Metro system is a driverless, fully automated metro network in the United Arab Emirates city of Dubai. The Red Line is operational it was inaugurated at 9:09:09 PM on September 9, 2009 by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Ruler of Dubai.

The Lines:

Red Line - 50 kilometres (31 mi) line with 31 stations from Jebel Ali Port, the American University in Dubai, through the city centre to Al Rashidiya. opened on 9th September 2009.

Green Line - 20 kilometres (12 mi) line with 22 stations from Festival City, through the city centre, Dubai International Airport Terminal 2 and the Airport Free Zone. It will be operational by June 2010, completing the first phase of the Dubai Metro.

Purple Line - 49 kilometres (30 mi) Dubai I nternational Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport, along Al Khail Road. Construction commenced in March 2009 and be operational by 2012. It will have about 8 stations on the route, 3 with check in facilities.

Blue Line - 47 kilometres (29 mi) Dubai International Airport to Al Maktoum International Airport, along Emirates Road. This was originally proposed for construction starting along with the Purple Line and completion in 2014.

The Project

Studies started in 1997, the Dubai Municipality identified the need for a rail system to relieve growing motor traffic and support continuing urban development. Systra was awarded the preliminary engineering contract, and a consortium of four companies headed by Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) is leading the project to build the first two lines of a high-tech driverless rapid transit system. Other consortium members include the Japanese Obayashi and Kajima corporations, and Yapi Merkesi of Turkey.

Groundworks began in February 2006, centred around the 52.1km Red Line. In August 2006 a second contract worth $12bn was awarded to the MHI consortium for bulding the Green Line.

Rolling stock

The driverless, fully automated trains are fully air-conditioned and designed to meet Dubai's specific requirements. Unusual for metro operation, the trains offer standard 'silver' class, a women and children only section plus a first-class 'gold' section (a carriage for VIPs). The five-car sets are approximately 75m long, seating around 400 passengers but with standing room fo

r many more. Numerous double doors will allow fast and smooth flows.

Rolling stock is being supplied by Kinki Sharyo under a $456.2m contract for 385 cars, the first having arrived from Japan in March 2008. Local runs began at Jebel Ali in Dubai during May 2008. Requiring under-cover storage and maintenance due to local conditions of heat and dust, the main depot with a capacity for 64 trains is at Rashidya. Auxiliary depots are at Jabel Ali and Al Ghusais.

Signalling and communications

The automatic train control system will allow headways of between 90 seconds and two minutes. In 2005 MHI contracted Alcatel (now Alcatel-Lucent) to supply the driverless train control system and a communications system for on-train video surveillance, passenger information, public address and the integrated control centre. Trains will be Wi-Fi enabled.

Occupying 10,000m², the system's control centre is at Rashidiya depot. The project's signalling system is moving block and fully automated with in-cab signalling. Reported as attracting considerable local criticism, in mid 2008 the RTA invited international bids for naming rights of 23 of the network's stations.

The future

In full operation, Dubai metro is projected to carry approximately 1.2 million passengers on an average day, and 355 million passengers a year. The operating cost including staff, maintenance and power should be approximately AED570m a year, planned to be met through fares and additional revenues such as advertisement space and joint development.

high-tech equipment.The trains are run by computers at the OCC. The OCC will be responsible for the Metro system.The train operation is protected by the Automatic Train Protection (ATP) system, which is a tested and proven technology used around the world. If any train breaks down on the track, all trains behind it stop automatically.The ATP tells about the movement of the train and other trains around. If there is any problem, it will immediately stop the train automatically.Through the system, the operators would know in the control room about the locati

Also, if there is any problem in the train and it cannot be operated from the OCC, the staff member on board the train will drive it manually to the nearest station. There will be at least one staff member on every train to help passengers and ensure safety.Chances of derailment are very remote. Before the start of the commercial operation, the operator will run an empty train, called "the sweeping train", on the tracks every morning to ensure the line is totally safe.

The OCC will also be responsible for incidents and event management coordination, emergency coordination, evacuation strategies, issue of instructions, service regulations and information, fault reporting and analysis, performance reporting, coordinating possessions and control of the traction power supply.

The signalling system being used for the Metro has previously been used in Hong Kong and Vancouver, and has proven in the last decades to be one of the most advanced and reliable systems in the world.The construction material used for the stations and trains is fire resistant, with zero halogen and no toxins. It is also scratch proof.

The Office of Rail Regulation in the United Kingdom has been assigned to provide support to the RTA.

NOL CARDS

The transit system will also be accessible by use of a 'Nol' (meaning 'Fare' in Arabic) card, which will come in four versions according to the needs of commuters. The cards will enable use of the Metro, buses, water buses and paid parking zones.

The Nol card will come in a Red version; which will be a paper ticket, valid for up to 90 days for casual users; a Silver card, valid for five years and allowing unlimited top-ups; a Gold version, which will allow access to the Gold Class cabins; and a Blue, personalized version, which will carry the user's photo and will be able to be used by students and the elderly to access their discounts.There are two categories of Nol Cards: Unified Paper Ticket issued at a two-dirham cost, and Unified E-Card issued at a 6-dirham cost.The fare of a single short journey not exceeding 3 km using the paper ticket is 2 dirham. The fare of travel within a single zone is 2.50AED, whereas it is 4.50AED in two neighboring zones and 6.50AED in 3 zones or more. The fare in the Gold Class for a short distance journey not exceeding 3 km is 4AED; whereas it is 5AED for a single zone, 9AED for 2 zones and 13AED for 3 zones or more. The cost of 10 journeys for short distances not exceeding 3 km is 20AED, whereas it 25AED in a single zone, 45AED in two zones and 65AED in three zones or more. A one-day travel pass is 14AED.

Guys at Russian site GooDiPhone have demoed Windows 95 running on an iPhone 3G via an emulator.Developers of iSoft team have managed to run Windows 95 on a jailbroken iPhone with the help of Bochs emulator and a standard Windows 95 image.

They also plan to figure out a way to get Windows XP to run on the iPhone and also try running Windows on the faster iPhone 3GS.

“Etisalat network upgrade for Blackberry service. Please download to ensure continuous service quality.” this was the description for the update for blackberry users but instead of "performance enhancement patch" as advertised the users downloaded some spyware that could potentially give Etisalat the ability to keep an eye on its customers' messages.
Nigel Gourlay, a Doha-based Sun-certified Java programmer who has been developing open source software for 15 years discovered an application intended to intercept both email and text messages, sending a copy to an Etisalat server without the user being aware of anything beyond a slightly excessive battery drain. Once installed, Etisalat could possibly start any device and all your messages and email will be forwaded to etisalat.

Virgin Media is testing out a cable system that's 51 times faster than the average broadband speed in the United States don't even compare with Etisalat . Using the next-generation cable data technology known as DOCSIS 3.0, It bring down 200 Mb per second Internet full HD broadband content 1080p and 3D, WoW now that I call Speed. It's a pilot project that will be underway for the next six months, now being tested by 100 early-adopting customers in the UK,around Ashford, Kent lucky b.. .

The speediest internet offered by Etisalat now is 16mbps- wake up guys wake up.
