Goals

Successful people are objective. They have realistic targets in
mind. They know what they are looking for and why they are fighting for
it. Successful people create and pursue S.M.A.R.T. goals.
S.M.A.R.T. goals are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely. Let’s briefly review each:

Specific – A general goal would be, “Get in shape.”
But a related specific goal would be, “Join a health club and workout 3
days a week for the next 52 weeks.” A specific goal has a far greater chance of being accomplished because it has defined parameters and constraints.

Measurable – There must be a logical system for
measuring the progress of a goal. To determine if your goal is
measurable, ask yourself questions like: How much time? How many
total? How will I know when the goal is accomplished? etc. When you
measure your progress, you stay on track, reach your target dates, and
experience the exhilaration of achievement that spurs you on to
continued efforts required to reach your goal.

Attainable – To be attainable, a goal must
represent an objective toward which you are both willing and able to
work. In other words, the goal must be realistic. The big question
here is: How can the goal be accomplished?

Relevant – Relevance stresses the importance of
choosing goals that matter. For example, an internet entrepreneur’s
goal to “Make 75 tuna sandwiches by 2:00PM.” may be Specific,
Measurable, Attainable, and Timely, but lacks Relevance to an
entrepreneurs overarching objective of building a profitable online
business.

Timely – A goal must be grounded within a time
frame, giving the goal a target date. A commitment to a deadline helps
you focus your efforts on the completion of the goal on or before the
due date. This part of the S.M.A.R.T. goal criteria is intended to
prevent goals from being overtaken by daily distractions.

When you identify S.M.A.R.T. goals that are truly important to you,
you become motivated to figure out ways to attain them. You develop the
necessary attitude, abilities, and skills. You can achieve almost any
goal you set if you plan your steps wisely and establish a time frame
that allows you to carry out those steps. Goals that once seemed far
away and out of reach eventually move closer and become attainable, not
because your goals shrink, but because you grow and expand to match
them.

<link rel="alternate" type="text/html" href="http://feedproxy.google.com/~r/JawwadsBlog/~3/3DK9qakxcvo/smart-goals.html" title="S.M.A.R.T.
A Story from the Middle East ...

A poor man dressed in rags came to the palace to attend the banquet. Out
of courtesy he was admitted but, because of his tattered clothing, he
was seated at the very end of the banquet table. By the time the
platters arrived at his seat, there was no food left on them.

So he left the banquet, returning several hours later dressed in robes
and jewels he had borrowed from a wealthy friend. This time he was
brought immediately to the head of the table and, with great ceremony,
food was brought to his seat first.

"Oh, what delicious food I see being served upon my plate." He rubbed one spoonful into his clothes for every one he ate.

A nobleman beside him, grimacing at the mess, inquired, "Sir, why are you rubbing food into your fine clothes?"

"Oh," he replied with a chuckle, "Pardon me if my robes now look the
worst. But it was these clothes that brought me all this food. It's only
fair that they be fed first!"

How to Win Friends and Influence People

This is Dale Carnegie's summary of his book, from 1936

Fundamental Techniques in Handling People

Don't criticize, condemn or complain.

Give honest and sincere appreciation.

Arouse in the other person an eager want.

Six ways to make people like you

Become genuinely interested in other people.

Smile.

Remember that a person's name is to that person the sweetest and
most important sound in any language.

Be a good listener. Encourage others to talk about themselves.

Talk in terms of the other person's interests.

Make the other person feel important - and do it sincerely.

Win people to your way of thinking

The only way to get the best of an argument is to avoid it.

Show respect for the other person's opinions. Never say, "You're
wrong."

If you are wrong, admit it quickly and emphatically.

Begin in a friendly way.

Get the other person saying "yes, yes" immediately.

Let the other person do a great deal of the talking.

Let the other person feel that the idea is his or hers.

Try honestly to see things from the other person's point of view.

Be sympathetic with the other person's ideas and desires.

Appeal to the nobler motives.

Dramatize your ideas.

Throw down a challenge.

Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Giving
Offense or Arousing Resentment

A leader's job often includes changing your people's attitudes and
behavior. Some suggestions to accomplish this:

Begin with praise and honest appreciation.

Call attention to people's mistakes indirectly.

Talk about your own mistakes before criticizing the other person.

Ask questions instead of giving direct orders.

Let the other person save face.

Praise the slightest improvement and praise every improvement. Be
"hearty in your approbation and lavish in your praise."

Give the other person a fine reputation to live up to.

Use encouragement. Make the fault seem easy to correct.

Make the other person happy about doing the thing you suggest.

I would like to share some very easy to follow success tips helping you to succeed in life and bussiness.

1. Wake up early. For the next week, get up a half an hour earlier
that you normally do--and get going. If you get a few more things done,
then get up even earlier the next week. Early in the morning is a great
time to get work done because most of your associates have not started
emailing, tweeting, IMing, or posting yet.

2. Read the headlines and watch the news. Not only should you know
what is going on in the world, you will also be the first to recognize
opportunities (if you followed #1) for you and your business--long
before the competition has even had their first cup of coffee.

3. Send something to one person who can hire you or buy your
product--something you promised to follow-up with, a quick email with a
link to something relevant or a "Hey, just checking in to see how thing
are going" email.

4. Touch base with an old friend or associate you haven't talked to
in ages. Ask how they are, what are they working on and ask or suggest
how you might help. You'll make their day.

5. Write a handwritten note to someone. Seriously. It is a lost art
and makes quite an impression. There is always someone you can send a
thank you note to--or you aren't doing things correctly.

A simple yet highly effective list. Try all five every weekday for a
month. Then, please let me know, how far it has worked for you.

Why Not Enjoy Life’s Winter?

On
the best sunny day, the most powerful magnifying glass will not light
paper if you keep moving the glass. But if you focus and hold it, the
paper will light up. That is the power of concentration.

A
man was travelling and stopped at an intersection. He asked an elderly
man, "Where does this road take me?" The elderly person asked, "Where do
you want to go?" The man replied, "I don't know." The elderly person
said, "Then take any road. What difference does it make?" How true. When we don't know where we are going, any road will take us there.

Suppose
you have all the football eleven players, enthusiastically ready to
play the game, all charged up, and then someone took the goal post away.
What would happen to the game? There is nothing left. How do you keep
score? How do you know you have arrived?

Enthusiasm without direction is like wildfire and leads to frustration.
Goals give a sense of direction. Would you sit in a train or a plane
without knowing where it was going? The obvious answer is no. Then why
do people go through life without having any goals?

It is the little things that make the big difference
There
was a man taking a morning walk on the beach. He saw that along
with the morning tide came hundreds of starfish and when the tide
receded, they were left behind and with the morning sun rays, they would
die. The tide was fresh and the starfish were alive. The man took a few
steps, picked one and threw it into the water. He did that repeatedly.
Right behind him there was another person who couldn't understand what
this man was doing. He caught up with him and asked, "What are you
doing? There are hundreds of starfish. How many can you help? What
difference does it make?" This man did not reply, took two more steps,
picked up another one, threw it into the water, and said, "It makes a
difference to this one."

What
difference are we making? Big or small, it does not matter. If everyone
made a small difference, we'd end up with a big difference, wouldn't
we?

Everybody is looking for success in life. There are things
holding us back. Today, I was thinking of such negative forces that might be
pushing me backward. I would like to share my thoughts.

To do what you always love to do is not less than a blessing.
If you spend 8 or more working hours wishing you were somewhere else, and then
complaining about your job and work. In such circumstances nothing better could
be expected than the horrible things. Always try to find the positive aspects
of the work you are doing. It might be the pleasant location of your office, a
friendly colleague, nice furniture, polite boss or anything else. But certainly
you should have a reason to love your work.

A negative circle of friends drastically affect your
progress. You might have heard the famous saying “birds of a feather flock
together”. If there are discouraging, pessimistic people around you, it is the
time to make some difficult decisions to have a change in your circle of
friendship.

Sparing some time for your inner-self is vital for your
overall health. When we are focusing only on worldly affairs and forgetting our
inner-selves, forgetting prayers and meditation, we are not giving our minds an
appropriate time to quit and relax. The result is poor physical health and more
trips to the doctor.

In the words of Buddha, “Holding on to anger is like
grasping a hot coal with the intent of throwing it at someone else; you are the
one who gets burned.” Letting go of anger isn’t always easy, but holding
onto is detrimental to your well-being. If you want to give another
person power over your life, hold a grudge against him or her.

A bad relationship or a disturbed family life adversely
affects your efficiency. You might have noted that when you are stuck in a bad
relationship, you feel that you have stuck in other matters of life too. If you
love yourself and your partner, then make a commitment to fix the relationship
in the right way or let it go.

We find them rude and negative.

Although everyone like those who are easy going but there are circumstances when we just can’t avoid difficult people. How to deal with difficult people is a great challenge. The best tip for such a situation is to be patient. Fighting fire with fire will raise a bigger fire. Try to convey your meanings and message in a very polite way. Try to avoid all kinds of reciprocal negative feelings and negative sentiments. Neither this kind of situation should make you feeling frustrated and depressed.

However, you must maintain your self respect. I would never like to make you to tolerate abuses and to submit yourself to humiliation. Be dignified and hold patience at the same time. That could be the best tip to deal with difficult people in difficult situations.

When This Life is Over

Today, I am going to discuss some bitter realities of life. I got up in morning in good health and happy living conditions. I went out for a pleasant morning walk. Then suddenly a strange thing came into my mind. How real this life is? For how many years I could enjoy the life more? Is there an end to all my happy life? When my life is going to be over? Answer: Yes – life has a certain end.

If it is certain that life is not an infinite period that what is the reality of all the achievement we make? Achievements do contribute to a pleasant life but certainly, mere achievements can't be the ultimate goal of life. The sole thing that is going to help you after death is good deeds. Charity, good manners, human friendship, social work, and doing at least something for others make the life valuable. Spending your life in a struggle to merely agglomerate wealth, fame and pride will make you to lose the inner peace of mind and soul. Charity and good deeds towards others will bless you with inner peace, wisdom and strength. You might have heard – every reaction has a reaction, so doing good for others will bring good to yourself.

Helpless Love - A story

I am sharing a story with you... You might have heard it already.

Once upon a time all feelings and emotions went to a coastal island for a vacation. According to their nature, each was having a good time. Suddenly, a warning of an impending storm was announced and everyone was advised to evacuate the island.

The announcement caused sudden panic. All rushed to their boats. Even damaged boats were quickly repaired and commissioned for duty.

Yet, Love did not wish to flee quickly. There was so much to do. But as the clouds darkened, Love realised it was time to leave. Alas, there were no boats to spare. Love looked around with hope.
Just then Prosperity passed by in a luxurious boat. Love shouted, “Prosperity, could you please take me in your boat?”

“No,” replied Prosperity, “my boat is full of precious possessions, gold and silver. There is no place for you.”
A little later Vanity came by in a beautiful boat. Again Love shouted, “Could you help me, Vanity? I am stranded and need a lift. Please take me with you.”

Vanity responded haughtily, “No, I cannot take you with me. My boat will get soiled with your muddy feet.”
Sorrow passed by after some time. Again, Love asked for help. But it was to no avail. “No, I cannot take you with me. I am so sad. I want to be by myself.”

When Happiness passed by a few minutes later, Love again called for help. But Happiness was so happy that it did not look around, hardly concerned about anyone.

Love was growing restless and dejected. Just then somebody called out, “Come Love, I will take you with me.” Love did not know who was being so generous, but jumped on to the boat, greatly relieved that she would reach a safe place.

On getting off the boat, Love met Knowledge. Puzzled, Love inquired, “Knowledge, do you know who so generously gave me a lift just when no one else wished to help?”

Knowledge smiled, “Oh, that was Time.”

“And why would Time stop to pick me and take me to safety?” Love wondered.

Knowledge smiled with deep wisdom and replied, “Because only Time knows your true greatness and what you are capable of. Only Love can bring peace and great happiness in this world.”

“The important message is that when we are prosperous, we overlook love. When we feel important, we forget love. Even in happiness and sorrow we forget love. Only with time do we realize the importance of love. Why wait that long? Why not make love a part of your life today?”

There was a blind girl who hated herself just because she was blind. She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend. He was always there for her. She said that if she could only see the world, she would marry her boyfriend.

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her and then she could see everything, including her boyfriend. Her boyfriend asked her, “now that you can see the world, will you marry me?”

The girl was shocked when she saw that her boyfriend was blind too, and refused to marry him. Her boyfriend walked away in tears, and later wrote a letter to her saying:

“Just take care of my eyes dear.”

This is how human brain changes when the status changed. Only few remember what life was before, and who’s always been there even in the most painful situations.

زندگی پر سکون کیسے

Anger strikes everyone at some time or another. How we respond to anger, however, can mean the difference between a healthy approach to problem solving and a violent, uncontrolled reaction that can hurt not only yourself, but those around you.

Definition of Anger

While anger as an emotion is difficult to describe, it does have a definition, provided by psychologists and therapists. From irritation to rage to intense, uncontrollable fury, anger runs through a gamut that can drive an individual forward to take constructive action or drive them to destroy.
On the physical level, anger brings about changes to body processes. Heartbeat speeds up and blood pressure rises as adrenaline surges through the system.
Part of the definition of anger is that it inflates the negative qualities of a person or situation you feel anger towards. Things seem worse than they are, triggering a fight or flight reaction. This exaggeration contributes to the instability of your mental state.
Anger can be a constructive force if handled properly. Anger about injustice leads many individuals to work to correct that injustice. But if mishandled, anger is just as likely to bring about the end of relationships, jobs, and even lives.

Controlling Anger

When anger becomes a destructive force, anger management techniques can help bank the fire and redirect the energy anger triggers. Anger management teaches how to recognize the signs of oncoming anger and redirect them, keeping them from leading to violence or regretful actions. Instead, the energy is focused on taking positive action to address what is causing the anger.
Sometimes this action involves breathing techniques to enable focus and control. Sometimes it involves learning to address another person to constructively express what causes your anger. Anger management does not invalidate anger or consider it inappropriate -- it just helps prevent ensuing reactions from becoming out of control, which is inappropriate.

How to Always Be Happy

How to always be happy? - There are simple tips to always be happy. One things must be kept in minds - happiness is a choice which can always be made in almost all circumstances. It is entirely up to us either to be happy or to be sad. So when you are going to make a choice -why not happiness?

Make a commitment to yourself - whatever the situation is or how bad the circumstances are driving me, i will always be happy.

Simplicity pays the best rewards. Make your life as simple as you can. There is utterly no need to indulge yourself in negative thinking of any kind. Keep yourself away from tension and depression. Believe me, these are never going to help you.

Live a balanced life. Accept happiness and sorrow as a part of life. Balance your personality in all ways.

Use the power of positive thinking for yourself. Always maintain a good perception about yourself. Once you have learnt to believe in yourself, life will be much happier for you.

You are unique in every way. Never compare yourself with others.

Organize your life. Make practical and realistic plans. Without a proper plan in action, an aim in life is merely a dream.

Self communication is good way to explore yourself. Communicate to yourself. Tell yourself who you are, what potentials and capabilities you have. Keep yourself reminding all the good things those have happened in past.

You must look to fulfill the expectations of those who care for us. However, it is impossible to meet expectations of everybody. If you are looking to satisfy each and every person in your life - stop worrying much about it.

Having the feelings of self-guilt either developed by your thoughts or triggered by others, is not the best thing in life. Over-come self guilt. Forgive yourself and start a new life.

Limit your expectations from others. If you want to always be happy, don't expect from others. When the expectations from others are not met, it hurts. So, always live your own life.

Never be afraid of any situation. Give yourself time to understand the things. Be courageous and prepare yourself to take risks in life.

Happiness is nothing to do with your possessions or qualities. It is merely related to your thinking. What is important is that you think.

If something is happening bad today, still you have a choice to think in a better way - things could have been even worse than this, thanks God, it is not that worse.

Nobody is perfect is this world. There is absolutely no need to always achieve the perfection. Work hard to produce the best but don't worry about the perfection. It is more important that you are on the way. Something is good than nothing.

Love and respect yourself and give yourself appreciation. Always have a smile on your face and have a lively life.

Be happy!!!

We may find many life quote giving a definition of success. Success is a relative term and every person may have its own meanings. In a broader sense, success is defined as the achievement of something one aspired and struggled for.

Success should not be confused as happiness because success does not always bring the later, however, finding happiness is your success.

Success can mean different things depending upon the person, aspirations, environment , previous achievements, aims and goals of life, moral and social values and most importantly, the state of conscious. Some people want to be millionaire, some want to do some thing unique that is memorable for the world and some mean it as a happy family life.

Success is the name of pursuing the right targets, with right motivation and intentions, putting the efforts in right way and in right time. Success results from a collective set of all these traits. In the whole life span, people are looking for and trying various techniques and skills to achieve the label of success.

I have put top tips for success in "Sayings for Success", another blog that you may like to visit.

Concluding, a person can label his life successful by the end of his life span if he is contented and has no regrets.

You might have heard this story already but here it is again:

A philosophy professor stood before his class with some items on the table in front of him. When the class began, wordlessly he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with rocks, about 2 inches in diameter.

He then asked the students if the jar was full. They agreed that it was.

So the professor then picked up a box of pebbles and poured them into the jar. He shook the jar lightly. The pebbles, of course, rolled into the open areas between the rocks.

He then asked the students again if the jar was full. They agreed it was.

The professor picked up a box of sand and poured it into the jar. Of course, the sand filled up everything else.
He then asked once more if the jar was full. The students responded with a unanimous “Yes.”

“Now,” said the professor, “I want you to recognize that this jar represents your life. The rocks are the important things – your family, your partner, your health, your children – things that if everything else was lost and only they remained, your life would still be full.

The pebbles are the other things that matter – like your job, your house, your car.

The sand is everything else. The small stuff.”

“If you put the sand into the jar first,” he continued “there is no room for the pebbles or the rocks. The same goes for your life.

If you spend all your time and energy on the small stuff, you will never have room for the things that are important to you. Pay attention to the things that are critical to your happiness. Play with your children. Take your partner out dancing. There will always be time to go to work, clean the house, give a dinner party and fix the disposal.

Take care of the rocks first – the things that really matter. Set your priorities. The rest is just sand.”

Overcoming Procrastination

If you are in a habbit of putting off important tasks over and over again, you are not alone. In fact, many people procrastinate to some degree – but some are so severely affected by procrastination that it stops them fulfilling their potential and ruins their careers.
The key to overcome this destructive habit is: first, to recognize when you start procrastinating; second, understand why it happens (even to the best of us), and third, take active steps to manage your time and outcomes better.

What is Procrastination?

In psychology, procrastination refers to the act of replacing high-priority actions with tasks of low-priority, and thus putting off important tasks to a later time.

The avoidance of doing a task which needs to be done - postponing until tomorrow what can be done today.
Procrastination not only affects a person's work, but also commonly involves feelings such as guilt, inadequacy, self-disgust, stress and depression. Often we try to disguise our avoidance by being very busy doing things that may be interesting, and even useful, but don't contribute towards the main goal - even doing something we normally hate - rather than writing, for example, just before an essay deadline!

How to Overcome?

Recognize that you are in the habbit of procrastination.

Be honest to yourself and you will find that whether you are in a habbit of procrastination or not. Here are given some indicators that will help you to analyze yourself.

Do you fill your day low priority tasks from your To Do List.

Sitting down to start a high-priority task, and almost immediately going off to do something else.

Leaving an item on your To Do list for a long time, even though you know it's important.

Regularly saying "Yes" to unimportant tasks that others ask you to do, and filling your time with these instead of getting on with the important tasks already on your list.

Waiting for the “right mood” or the “right time” to do the most important task

Why you are procrastinating?

You should work out why you're procrastinating. It could depend on both you and the task. But it's important to understand which of the two is relevant in a given situation, so that you can select the best approach for overcoming your reluctance to get going. Most common of the reasons people procrastinate are:

poor time management, often associated with a distorted sense of the time available

an inability to prioritise

overload of tasks at a specific time

anxiety about the task, so time is spent worrying rather than doing

difficulty concentrating

not knowing what is required

feeling overwhelmed by the task(s)

concern about failing or not meeting your own standards

fear of success and its possible consequences

perfectionism, often associated with unrealistic standards

negative feelings - e.g. "I'm stupid", "nothing ever goes right for me"

all-or-nothing thinking, where one setback is seen as a total catastrophe

being bored by the task

never having learned how to work or sort out problems while at school or living at home

avoidance of things which are disliked or difficult.

Suggestions to help out

One needs to form the will to change this habit and take immediate steps to reach one's goal. Once your intention is sincere and you follow it up with consistent action, trusting in Almighty Allah (SBT), success is guaranteed. Allah assures us in the Qur’an: “And those who shall strive for Our Sake, We shall surely guide them unto Our ways.” (Al-`Ankabut: 69).

While combating laziness, the first thing to do is to recognize that like all negative habits we have formed, it is a habit that we have acquired through consistent practice. We persist in it because we find comfort and gain pleasure in it. So we cannot be expected to get rid of it entirely unless and until we learn to link this habit with ugliness, pain and suffering rather than glamorizing it. So, list all the negative aspects and dire consequences associated with laziness. List everything you stand to lose if you were to persist in this habit. Do this as many times as possible until laziness becomes automatically associated with pain and suffering in your consciousness.

Here are some more practical steps you can take to fight procrastination.

Accept that there is no magic wand: you will have to do the task!

The words that we use to ourselves in thinking or talking about the task matter! They have feelings attached to them which colour our anticipation and experience of the work. Try changing the words "have to" and "can't" to "choose to" and "choose not to" - this won't always be true, but it will probably be more honest most of the time. After all, you don't have to do this work - you probably chose to come and do this course, research or job, and you could choose to leave it!

Take account of the sort of person you are, of your values and your expectations. Assess whether these "fit" with the way in which you are trying to tackle the task - do you need a new approach with which you will be more comfortable? Patterns of working vary from one person to another, and so do the desired outcomes.

Recognise self-defeating behaviour and its associated thinking. Try to work out why you procrastinate: what do you gain from it? Find out how to overcome such behaviour. You might choose to sort it out yourself, to refer to a self-help book or leaflet, or to consult the appropriate person, such as your tutor, supervisor, director of studies, manager, colleague or a counsellor.

Identify goals and make realistic decisions about how to do the tasks, and prioritise.

Ensure that you have the right equipment, information etc. to help in tackling the task. Some time spent in preparation and planning is vital - but not to the extent that no real work gets done. So set a time limit for the planning stage(s). Plan a (small) section and then work on it.

Whilst spending time planning is very useful, here's a word of warning to those who make very detailed plans which go wrong within an hour and are then ripped up in disgust - plans need to be flexible! Don't plan all the hours in the day; leave plenty of unplanned times and spaces - to allow for things taking longer than expected, and for you to have extra time for relaxation when they don't!

Break down tasks into manageable bits. Set yourself small goals - to read one chapter; to write 1 page; to work for 45 minutes, take a 15 minute break and then do another 45 minutes work.

Boost your motivation. Dwell on your strengths, on tasks you have accomplished and feel good about, in order to remind yourself that you can be successful.

Give yourself rewards when you accomplish something.

When you are getting stuck, rather than just stopping work, try a different strategy - take a pencil and an old, half-used piece of paper out of the bin, and scribble unplanned and unstructured notes and ideas to yourself for the task in hand. Or start on a different section of the piece (you don't have to work from the beginning to the end), picking the least demanding in thought or creativity.

Quite often procrastination is connected to anxieties about the quality of the work you hope (or fear) you will produce! At times like this, it is worth remembering that it's better to produce something rather than nothing!

Last but not least, start your day by counting the blessings of Allah and thus focusing on your strengths rather than on your weaknesses; and pray to Allah to grant you a day of glory, blessings and success. You may consistently make the following du`a

Allahumma inni a`udhu bika min al-`ajzi wa al-kasal wa al-jubni wa al-bukhl wa a`udhu bika min munkarati al-akhlaqi wa al-ahwa’

(O Allah! I seek refuge in You from feeling of helplessness, laziness, cowardice and miserliness; I also seek refuge in You from all despicable traits and whims).
