"Northern Mindanao is island's biggest economy"

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Misamis Oriental (PIA) - Northern Mindanao remains the biggest economy in Mindanao despite the slowdown experienced in 2008 and 2009.

This was disclosed by Engr. Cecilio Y. Clarete of the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA), during a recent forum attended by media practitioners in the city and members of the Regional Association of Government Communicators (RAGCOM), Region 10.

He said Northern Mindanao also sustained its third highest per capita Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP), nationwide, next to NCR and CAR.

The real growth of 2.9 percent registered in 2009 was mostly from the agricultural ector which contributed 1.3 percentage points.

Exports recovered well registering a 79 percent increase while the inflow of new investments as monitored by the DTI also increased by 44 percent.

Everyone needs a friend, as it is written no man is an island, no one can live his life fruitfully by being alone, in fact as what John Maxwell as stated, “One is too small to achieve greatness it takes a team to do it”.

Friendship in short is a vital player in achieving success, but it’s more than that, it also demands trust, faith, loyalty and sincerity. A true friend never leaves you on the broken road; he would even help you cross it. On the contrary, a person who just takes advantage of you is nothing but a hypocrite.

Now, let me tell a story about two friends. Both of them are influential people, both of them are political leaders and lastly both of them have great track records. One day, he was walking toward the senate chamber and upon entering he was blocked by his fellow senators, assuming that he would restore monarch and eliminate the republic, they stabbed him not once but 27 times, he tried to run and evade but all hope of escaping suddenly turned to regret as he saw his best friend do the final touch.

The story might sound familiar it is for the fact that it was the story of the great Roman general, Julius Caesar and his best friend and even considered his illegitimate son, a Roman senator Marcus Brutus, you might not know them both but that is beyond the point. Do you know how does it feel to be betrayed by your own best friend whom you trusted for how many years? And the sad part your friend relied on assumptions, he did not even gave you the time to explain.

But remember, you don’t control people if that’s their perspective of you so be it. Stop trying to change others, you can never change them, you can only change yourself. If your friend will backbite you and tell lies, just let it be, it is his idea. Don’t waste your time talking nonsense or do counter backbiting, this would not be productive; it will only cause chaos, or in worst case problems that can destroy your friendship.

Instead, why not prove that his statements are wrong in the gentlest way, by doing what is right. If you think that your friend’s words have a point then you might as well look at yourself first then talk to him/her. If it were false testimonies then leave things as it is, because at the end of the day the people who believe on your friend will soon realize that he is lying. There is no need for a commotion to erupt. Do not waste the friendship that was built for many months or years by just one misunderstanding.

Personally, I have hypocrite and “TRUE” friends, I can’t blame them for what they think about me, and it’s none of my business. Some people say I’m immature, childish, wimp, stupid, imbecile, whatever! With honor I do recognize your perspective of me; I’m just sorry for you if other people do not have same perception of me like you do. As I said, I can’t change people, I can only change myself. So what I do is that I show to the people that I’m not that person whom my friends are trying to describe.

At first it hurts because they are indeed your friends, but at the end of the day, I realized that they are not mine. That’s why choosing people to be your friends is very important. A true friend will indeed be your bridge over troubled water just like what Jesus Christ did.

So guys let us choose friends wisely! A friend in need is a friend indeed. I hope next time well be more careful in choosing friends.

Power of Vision

“Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he.”

Look at our society, isn’t it alarming to see most young people, especially in our generation going off course? The more sad part is that they are not all helpless; some are talented, resourceful and intelligent. And what is the reason for this? They lack vision.

Now you might be telling me, “Vision? How is that possible?” Before I answer that, what is vision in the first place? Vision is an interpretation of a future event will happen. Guys, let me just clarify, vision is different from ambitions and dreams. It’s much deeper than mere aspirations. So, why do people perish and why do they fail if they don’t have vision?

First of all, vision provides direction, if a person had a vision, he or she know where to go. He or she will know what course to take, what things to do, what manners to exercise and even what skills to develop. Vision paves a way for a person to determine where he/she is going to. Second, vision fuels action, when a person has a vision, he or she will definitely do everything for her/him to achieve that vision. This is the big difference between ambition and vision, ambition doesn’t necessarily demands action, but in vision, it is the other way around. Lastly, vision makes a difference. In this manner, we can identify the difference between a man both equal in talents and skills. A person with a vision would always excel more than a person who has none.

See the power of vision? In fact it is written, without vision people perish. For the reason why, it’s because people go astray, when there is no vision. Guys, it’s very important to have vision. I hope that as we continue our journey in the world, we will learn how to have vision, and I hope that vision has God’s breathed words in it.

Preparation or Reparation

We’re going to analyze a story today. I believe most of us are familiar about Moses, the great man called by God to lead his people to the promise land. However, he wasn’t able to step on that promise land; well at least he was able to see it. But what went wrong? Why did God told them that they would not be able to see it? The answer is, the Israelites were very hard headed.

Hard headed? Yes, hard headed in a sense that they keep on complaining about this and that. Isn’t it so sarcastic to say that they have a doubt toward the God that sent 10 plagues on Egypt and divided the Red Sea into two? You might criticize it, but in reality, we also keep on complaining. J Sometimes, when things go the wrong way we tend forget that God is greater than these adversities. That’s why I’m giving you today a reminder; don’t put God on a box.

Another thing that we keep on missing is that God is preparing us for something great that’s why these adversities are here. Just like the Israelites, God was preparing them for the promise land, unfortunately they didn’t responded well. That’s why at the end of the day, they paid the price of their imprudent actions. Same is true today, God keeps on sharpening us and we only have to respond properly. Because if we don’t surely success won’t come that easy and in worst case we fail.

Now, which side are you on do you accept God’s preparation or reparation? Well, it’s your choice; I’m just here to remind you that everything happen for a reason and complaining is not the answer. God knows what best that’s why I believe He’s putting obstacles to prepare us.

The Sore Eyes Epidemic

“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”

Do you like enormous materials; do you admire tall structures, space stations or even large boulders? If you do so this message is specially made for you.

As what I have heard from people, in our world today, only the biggest, largest and mammoth ideas, people, material and etc. survives. This is really quite frustrating, nowadays people disregard small factors. They always look on the big, great and mammoth. But today I tell you the importance of these things.

As of now, there is a sore eye epidemic in our campus, reports show that more than 50 student have already experienced this sickness. This illness caused a lot of unexpected events, actions have been done to prevent this infection but currently, it is still spreading. Well, this is not a news report, but what I’m trying to say is that these microscopic bacteria are creating chaos in our school! And that’s right, microscopic. So what’s the point? The point is that we should not take this miniature, microscopic and little thing, ideas, etc. for granted, for they would surely make a big impact.

Just like this, people neglect scraps of marble but they do appreciate marble statues, people neglect stones and pebbles but they do admire buildings made of stones, people neglect pieces of metal and steel, but they do like skyscrapers that have a metallic structure. Just imagine if those little things aren’t there.

Same with faith, never disregard a person’s little faith, even if it is as small as mustard seed, in the long run it will surely make a big difference. Just like the child who offered 2 little fish and 5 small loaves, he was doubtful because the fishes and loaves were small yet how come they were able to feed 5,000 people. :)

Guys, sometimes small things that we usually say useless and just neglect are actually big things in the long run. We should not look small things in our perspective, but rather on God’s perspective. The sore eyes epidemic is just one of the evidences how powerful small thing are. Let us not always try to look at the big picture but the small details containing it, because these small factors will surely affect the big picture.

Life is not just about the mammoths, large, big and enormous, we have to understand and accept the small details around us. In the movie “Facing the Giants”, it’s not about the size, it’s about your faith. Who cares if you have a mustard seed faith, didn’t God promised that you can move a mountain with it.

So I hope you get my point, don’t neglect small things, ideas, etc. for they will surely make a big difference and impact.

The Bright Side

"For I am the LORD, your God, who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, do not fear; I will help you"

Last week, in Iligan City, a college student jumped off from an overpass because he was busted by his girlfriend. The latter was then reported dead on arrival at the nearby hospital.

I’m not writing this to tell a modern version of Shakespeare’s tragic story, Romeo and Juliet. I might not know the full details of the incident but that is beside the point. For suicide is just the result of a much deeper reason.

Talking about reasons, there are plenty of them. I’ve been kicked out of school, I lost my fortunes, I was left my the one I love or just simply I failed the quarter exam, yes!, I failed the quarter exam. Funny as it sounds, that’s the reality.

So basically, there are a lot of causes. But to sum up all the reasons, they all refer to failure. Failing, indeed plays a major role in our life. I can’t imagine those people who committed suicide just because they had a failing grade! :) Personally, I had a falling grade but I am not ashamed of it. Happy Physics to those who got a smiley in their first classroom exercise! (That includes me :) )

However, failures in life do not, should not and will not determine our future. It doesn’t mean that if one keeps on failing he would end up failure. Remember, what matter is how we finish the game not how we started it. Just like what happened to me on my last year in elementary. I was really hoping to attend a National Level Science Congress, but as we know it only the first place winners in every region was sent to attend such event. And I was so disappointed that we end up second on the division level which means I can’t attend the regional and so forth. But I did not gave up, I did not took and cut myself and sang bleeding love. Instead, I became more objective to our goal for I believe for a second chance.

God is indeed faithful, I was able to get the second chance that I requested and we were able to represent Region X at National Science Congress held at Palawan last February 2008. But that wasn’t the end our participation for me was enough but God gave us more than what we expected, he made us won first place, making me and my partner, Jessan Miguel Garcia, the first research team from Cagayan de Oro City to bring such fame. So, what my point? Imagine, if I lost hope because of our failure in the division level? Imagine, if I also jumped off from an overpass because of that incident? Imagine, if I did come to God during that situation? Would I still be able to write these things to you?

The point, ladies and gentlemen is that in our every failure, we must look at the bright side. Yes, its right not to worry when failures and troubles come but we also have to play our role, we should always look the bright side of everything that happens in our environment. And what is that bright side? Let’s see….

Jeremiah 29:11, For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Now this is what I call bright side! Isn’t it amazing that

God had promised us that He had already prepared good plans that will prosper us? If such is indeed the case, why would I allow myself to overwhelm by failures and problems?

All we have to do is do our part. As quoted from the newly recreated movie, “Karate Kid”, Life brings us down, yet the decision to rise above adversities and be different is in our hands. Same is true with our life. Event might bring us down but the decision to make a difference is in us. Now do you think, God wants you to give up the fight?

As a summary, when we are in time of trouble, let us be reminded that God would be there to help us, let us not complain and grumble but let us look at the bright side of everything. Let us live by God’s promise and not by the current situation.

In this way, we can truly say, that I lived my life to the fullest!

Top 10 People Who Made an Impact in My Life in 2010

First of all, I would like to thank everybody for giving me a roller coaster ride in the year 2010. I had definitely enjoyed my ups and downs. It was a year full of adventures that money can’t buy.

Here is a list of the top 10 people who made my 2010 a great year.

10. Danielle Ann Ranido – “Apple Of My Eye”

This cute and math-oriented girl makes up my top ten. For some reasons, I decided to include her. If there is one word that could describe her it would be AWESOME. That is what made her who she is now, an outstanding student that excels in Mathematics. Keep on learning yo!

9. Karl Michael Edquila – “Dipolog Boy Makes Good…xD”

He is not new to me. I have been his classmate for two school years now. One thing that I could hardly forget from him is this, SERIOUS STUDYING. I could not imagine how he do it, but reading Biology books for five hours straight will surely suck the energy out of you. At first, I though this was waste of time and energy but honestly I did see all your efforts pay off. Congratulations for always being highest on the quizzes!

8. Arristy Pajaro; Raffy Aque et al – “The Party People”

First and foremost, they are too many too mention. Sure these bunch of first year people had really made my head hot. But don’t worry I enjoy much of the time we play. I never thought a simple action such as room hopping could do a big change. Keep rolling pipz!

7. Jacklyn Care Linayao – “The Convert”

This is the woman whom I respect a lot. Even though sometime we have those petty misunderstandings because of our differences in mindsets. The first time, I met her, she was really my nemesis. But a school year later, things changed. Now she is not just a friend but an adviser at the same time. Just avoid being moody! Control your emotions….xD

6. Myrtle Anne Faye Virata – “A Helping Hand’

Aps, Pol, Faye, Mae, Tle, call her anyway you wanted, for sure, she will answer. She is truly one of those sociable people in school that you could talk and open up to. She likes to help people not just emotionally but financially and spiritually as well. I don’t know what she eats, but I believe helping peole runs in her blood. Tnx for everything Apple.

5. Miguel Jemuel Cabusas – “Chaos Still Chaos”

We’re halfway! Five more people to go. I never thought the one whom I first had a quarrel with, would become one of my FRENEMIES that would soon change me personally. Would there be a day of tranquility for both of us? I believe yes, sometimes we just want to create chaos for the sake of making one. lolz. Don’t stop dreaming, live your dreams to the fullest.

4. Arris Gene Apalisok – “Devil May Care”

At first, I did not notice him. Well, he was too small to be noticed. It wasn’t until two months ago when he started knowing each other. After the Science Camp, he keeps on looking for an opportunity to get revenge. Why? Because, I had him and Amyzz married at the marriage booth, something which he always denies that he doesn’t like. Anyway, it was not until the QE, where he keeps on pleading for me to help him on his 70 pages “I will not do it again”. Just avoid playing during weekdays, after all it won’t hurt!

3. Roselle Ebarle – “The Hustler”

Probably, she is one of the most talkative girls, after Mel that I have met. She always likes to blubber idea that are on her mind. She always aspires for the best. She is also a kind of a girl I usually go with, that’s because when she is there the party goes on. Keep on dreaming!

2. Hesanli Andre Ompoc et al– “A Friend Indeed”

This person changed my perspectives of the first year students in the boy’s dormitory especially those in the second floor… He is very optimistic, thinks before he reacts and is very resourceful. He is also a generous person, a real FRIEND that would never leave you behind.

Yoohooo! Occupying the number one spot? Well, the man who caused a lot of ups and downs in my life. From plugging me into modern music, teaching me real life scenario solutions, mentoring me into a better debater, inspiring me to pursue what I have in my mind and not just to settle for the good but for the best. What else? Another thing that placed him into the number one spot is his note that was already deleted and the times I share secrets and open up to him. Kuya Ben, you are the man who made the biggest impact in my life.
