Perhaps the most anticipated video game of all time gets the assistance of the West Coast’s finest.

In the trailer for Rockstar’s Grand Theft Auto V, Jay Rock’s “Hood Gone Love It”, the lead single form his album debut Follow Me Home, is used as the soundtrack to the second chapter of the trailer, which follows the story of Franklin, a hood inhabitant looking to find his way out without getting killed in the process. Sounds like something Jay Rock would know all about, making this song selection the perfect fit.

I was the first one up. Me through it all, they always had my back. It just felt real good to see we all on the cover. Q said it on one of them songs. “Black Hippy , TDE/Well fuck it nigga let’s 4-peat.” Just to see all my niggas get that cover like that, it just felt real good. I know we are doing something right. I opened the doors and I kept the doors open. We all in there, you feel me? We are all in there together. And that’s what it’s about.

Jay Rock also revealed what’s to come for his next album:

Shit, a new and improved Jay Rock. [Laughs] I mean—just some real dope music. It’s gonna be something you ain’t heard on the first album. It’s going be way different. Right now, it’s hard to explain it. I’m just so excited right now and can’t wait to get this shit to the people. I know they gonna love it. Just know that Rock is real excited right now and inspired. I am gonna give the people what they want.

Jay Rock may have held back from dropping any major solo material this past year, but his verse on Kendrick Lamar’s “Money Trees” was enough to remind the world that Watts’ Finest was sharper than ever.

In an exclusive interview with L.A. Weekly, Jay Rock discussed his transition from Warner Bros. to Strange Music and also addressed his highly-praised guest feature on “Money Trees”, reflecting on how the scene stealing verse came together.

Still looking ahead, Jay Rock dropped some words for fans waiting to hear another solo release:

I’m going to take y’all on a ride. That’s my mindset. That’s my vibe. I want to go over peoples’ heads with this one. They know the typical Jay Rock from Watts project, but I want to go deeper with this. That’s what I’m building right now — a whole new sound.

Jay Rock also went on to tease fans a bit by suggesting a new track could be on the way very soon.

With the TDE camp taking over hip hop, it won’t be long before listeners get an entirely new vibe and direction from Jay Rock.

Already hailed as a classic, Kendrick Lamar’s highly-anticipated Good Kid, m.A.A.d. city gets a major assist from Jay Rock and the Black Hippy crew.

The brand new album, which sees Kendrick Lamar make his major label debut, has quickly become one of the most talked about releases in recent memory. Flying under TDE Flag, it was only natural that Kendrick tap his Black Hippy brethren for a few appearances that include the Spotify exclusive, “The Recipe (Black Hippy Remix)”, and the Target exclusive, ”Swimming Pools (Black Hippy Remix)”.

Meanwhile, Jay Rock gets a third outing on the album’s original tracklisting with the mellow and thought-provoking “Money Trees”. Providing a  fleeting glimpse of trials faced on the streets, Jay Rock pens one of the album’s most memorable verses.

The BET Music Matters Tour hit the Big Apple for a massive show that saw the Black Hippy crew take over the sold-out Terminal 5 music venue.

With Jay Rock, Kendrick Lamar, and Ab-Soul all taking the stage, XXLMag.com was in the house to catch all of the live action for a full recap:

TDE gave New York a solid night of hip-hop even before Kendrick took the stage. Jay Rock opened with the aggressive verses and energetic presence he’s becoming known for, ending with “YOLA,” a track he dropped last month as part of TDE’s Fam Appreciation Week. As the pounding bass shook the club’s floors and walls, the Watts MC told the all-ages crowd: “I see all colors out here—I love that shit!”

Coast to coast, Jay Rock is definitely feeling the love on the Music Matters Tour as he reps for TDE/Strange Music.

One thing is clear: fans missed hearing from Jay Rock.

The Strange Music/TDE emcee stirred the web with the release of “Yola” recently and proved that he was still getting better with time. Produced by Dave Free, “Yola” found Jay Rock trying out some new tricks as he spit over a dream-like array of synths and bass dripping in West Coast flavor.

The release of “Yola” was so surprising in fact that fans on Twitter showed out for Jay Rock by making both “Y0la” and “Jay Rock” trending topics late in the afternoon:
