You Can't Stop Online Business

Big retailers were happy to undercut small business many years ago... but now the tables have turned

Currently in Australia, some big retailers are complaining about Internet shopping.

Why? Because it means they don't get to push around the little guys anymore.

According to the unrelenting complaints of some big retailers, competing with online stores is unfair because items under $1000 can be imported without the need to pay GST. In my opinion that is a bullshit complaint because in many cases, you save more than 10% by buying online.

Friendly Discussions

Maybe I should employ the anvil tactic at my house to stop the door to door salesman?

What do you do when someone says they don't need your business?

I had a friend explain that his business doesn't benefit from "off-the-street" customers. The business they receive from these customers is usually low paying and filled with problems.

In fact, they don't advertise at all. Everything is word of mouth.

If my friend was a potential client that I wanted to offer my services to, it's likely that I would be walking away empty handed. The standard response to this type of rejection is to politely listen and walk away.

Am I really being Efficient?

My brittle computer hands were not impressed with having to mow this.

Shell and I purchased a vacant block of land in June this year. We hate gardening and in 4 months our precious pile of dirt turned into the Amazon.

A good friend helped us clear this monstrosity... Ok, so maybe he did 80% of the work but I provided some solid moral support.

After completing this task, my conventional thinking said, "next time I won't leave it go so long". But is that the most efficient way to go about it?

Trimming the marketing

One of the photos my friend uploaded

A friend of mine is in the gardening industry.

He doesn't remind me of this every time we see each other, heck he hardly talks about his work at all... unless he has a great story to tell. These rare occasions usually include a flashy car owned by one of his multi-millionaire clients or the extravagant size of their home.

I listen because he talks about the interesting parts.
