This joke makes no sense. It probably doesn’t make anyone else laugh. But you know what? I don’t give a hoot. It’s my birthday and I am going to draw something that is flat out ridiculous and only makes me laugh.

This… may have been inspired by true events.

You’ll get colours and backgrounds when I wake up in the morning, but right now it is 2am and I cannot face another 2 hours of staring at photoshop while my right eye tries to close itself.

I changed my mind, it would be best if I just started work on the next page. I don’t have a lot of free time these days.

Third is insanely tall. I know you know this, but it bears repeating. Toe to scalp, Third is 6 foot 4. With his hair he tops out at 7 feet. In order to keep Hannah in shot I had to subtly increase her height from 5’7 to 5’10 just so she doesn’t disappear entirely.

Senor Green Hair in panel 4 was meant to be in the previous comic but I didn’t draw him, because I am lazy. And I didn’t think the angles worked.

Third’s exercise regimen is a lot more than I know most of you do and is not what could be called ‘easy’ fairly but I think we can all agree it is not the intensive regimen of training one would expect from a man who lifts 4 times the weight of the world’s strongest weight lifters. However  I think it is a believable regimen to be used to keep him fit and healthy (and more so than the rest of the cast).

That’s about all I have to say.

I don’t want to say too much about this comic. Third’s apparent sexism will be addressed in the next comic.

I… want to sleep. I am posting this at almost 2am.
But first I must talk about the science of holding a car over your head.

It is physically impossible. Especially a Suzuki Swift which is pictured here. A Suzuki Swift is 1200kilos unladen, and yet the world weight lifting record is about 250kilos. Even the world’s smallest commercial cars like the Fiat 500 and the Mini Cooper are still 500-600 kilos, which are impossible to lift single handed.

But its a comic book, so I do not care. Third can lift a small car over his head. Because he’s Third. He lives in a cupboard.

Now, we don’t usually swear here on Jayden and Crusader. I make a conscious effort to keep my scripts reasonably family friendly. If you wouldn’t see it on TV before 9pm I probably won’t put it in.

Sometimes though, I get really, really angry.

After wasting my Tuesday with headaches I spent my entire Wednesday trying to draw page 240. It was a really good script, wonderful inks, great pacing and structure. And then photoshop decided to eat it. The file is utterly corrupted. Trust me, I tried everything. I installed a thousand programs to try and fix it, tried a hundred work arounds, even looked in the damn temp folders.

That page is gone. The only way it is coming back is if I redraw it from the ground up and I am too pissed off to do it right now.

This page did calm me down though. When I started I was a hot ball of rage. Now I am… pretty OK.

And I got a page up. So yay for that.

I spent all of Monday with a headache, eye strain and barely able to put words in the correct order.

So yeah. Comic. Didn’t happen. Urrrrggghhh I don’t like saying that.

We’re a bit late to the Game of Thrones party here in Jayden and Crusaderville. I’ve been watching it since the first episode, as I had been excitedly been watching the development of the show since it was first proposed in 2008, but I have not really felt that the characters of Jayden and Crusader would catch up to it that fast.

I am almost certain people will have made this joke before me, but I do not care. My characters, my comic.

Most of the girls I know who watch the show end up liking it, but it is not the kind of show most women will like first time around. Game of Thrones is a very male affair.

Anyway. Comic. Yay. Its shorter than most, but there just was not enough material in the script to stretch it out. It maaaaybe could have been four panels, but it would have seemed very thin. I might kick off another (short) storyline soon. I have all the scripts written, its just a matter of finding an appropriate time to slot them into the story.

This page had a troubled production. It took me a long time to get the punchline in the last two panels. And by ‘a long time’ I mean all of the time from Thursday to Monday evening at 5pm. There were a couple of versions of that near the end.

It also took several attempts to get the backgrounds behind Hannah to look right. Drawing backgrounds is always hard at the best of times for me.
But, the page is here now and I am very pleased with it. So yay for that.

Kendo is a sport that I always wanted to learn but never got around to. I will probably start learning one day, but at the moment its just too far out of the way. I thought it would be good to have Hannah have a little more character progression, so I gave it to her. Not because Kendo on its own will help Hannah grow, but the realisation that she might need something knew is what will help her grow.

After all, she has spent the last 5 years being little more than Smic’s lackey. That must get tiresome. I can’t think of any of the Doctor’s companions that lasted that long, after all.

Two updates on time in a row? Its been what, 8 months since that happened?

Anyway. More comics. Involving robots. Wacky robots. I seriously love this page and love that robot.

Here is a recipe for a $5 shake from Pulp Fiction I found on the internet:

Ingredients

1 x medium banana (peeled)

1 x bourbon vanilla pod or half a teaspoon of vanilla paste

300gm clotted cream ice cream

200gm natural yoghurt

250ml whole milk

2 x tablespoons of clear honey

5 x cubes of ice

Pinch of salt.

Blend them all together and garnish with a cherry.

Tell me what it tastes like, because I never tried it. I don’t own a blender.

So. 4 months. That has to be a record right?

You might be wondering what has been going on. Well, I have been writing. Like a machine. Since January I have written 2 books and treated doing so as a 9-5 job. Because of this I didn’t end up with a lot of free time and at the same time instead of Jayden and Crusader characters filling my head, instead it was other characters.

Still, we’re back now and here’s a comic to prove it.

It is odd, the ideas for Jayden and Crusader used to come out of nowhere. Now I have to sit down and think about them. I never previously realised how important it was for Jayden and Crusader for me to be sitting in lessons for 2-3 hours a day, doodling on the back of lecture notes.
