The Standard Catalog of World Paper Money 18th ed. has been released and is now available for purchase through Amazon for $44.10 (Free Shipping when shipped within the US). The original price tag is $70. This edition once again does not come with the disc attached.

Here goes to hoping that they have included all the nations in this edition and that some of the kinks have been fixed. The release date for the rest of the world may be different.

New Banknotes: Namibia UPDATE

On an article written on the Informaté website it is stated that the new series of banknotes will be released next month (March). On the N$10 and N$20 banknotes, Sam Nujoma (the founding president) will be on the front while the rest of the denominations: N$50, N$100 and N$200 will still feature: Captain Hedrick Witbooi. The new banknotes will be released around the time of the Namibian Independence Day (March 21st) and will have upgraded security features. Images are Requested.

New Banknotes: Oman

The Central Bank of Oman has introduced new 5 & 10 Rial banknotes. These banknotes have upgraded security features and will be circulating next to the banknotes already in circulation. The CBO also introduced a 50 Rial note on Jan. 10, 2012.

Belarus: The National Bank of Belarus will be issuing a 200,000 Ruble banknote on March 12, 2012 according to an article written by Telegraf.by. Also stated in the article was that the NBB plans on taking the 10 and 20 Rubles notes out of circulation and possibly curving all denominations to the nearest 50th. Images are Requested.

South Africa: The South African Reserve Bank will be issuing new banknotes sometime late in 2012. All the new notes will have Nelson Mandela on the front and the reverse will have one of the big five (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino).

Switzerland: The Swiss National Bank has pushed back the introduction of a new banknote series back one year, making the debut date somewhere in 2013.

Queen Elizabeth II's New Look

No, there is not new banknotes that feature QE II coming out, well not that we know of. But what is coming out is a new set of stamps from the Royal Mail that will feature images of QE II that were featured on past and present Bank of England banknotes and coins. These new stamps are to celebrate QE II's Diamond Jubilee. Interestingly enough the two images that were taken from coins QE II faces East, while on all the banknote images QE II faces West.

Now we are not stamp collectors, but we would love to be able to get our hands on a set of these stamps. If you can help JWB acquire these please feel free to contact us.

New Banknote: Hong Kong

In an article written in Hong Kong's "The Standard" website it is reported that the Bank of China (Hong Kong) will be releasing a new HK$100 Dollar banknote to commemorate the 100th Year Anniversary of the bank. It is said that there will be 2 million of the HK $100 Dollar notes printed. On the front of the banknote will be the Bank of China building that is located in Beijing, China and the Great Wall of China. On the reverse side shows the Bank of China Tower in Hong Kong and the harbor.

The release date for this banknote was slated to be: February 5, 2012. More information and Images are requested.

Kittens on Chinese 100 Yuan 'note?

A group of internet users are said to have found 3 kittens on the Chinese 100 Yuan banknote. It appears that two of the kittens are bowing down to another kitten, which has its arms raised. Yuan Yinlong a "banknote and coin expert" says its all rubbish and that the users are just making it all up. Take a look for your self, tell me what you see.

Goodbye US $1 Dollar Banknote?

Four Senators in the US Congress have introduced a bill that is intended to eliminate the US $1 Dollar banknote and instead us the $1 Dollar coin. The main reasoning for this is the 36 month life span of a US dollar compared to the 30 or so year life time of a coin. The only problem... man US citizens do not like to US the $1 Dollar coins to begin with. It is believed that 40% of the $1 Dollar coins mint have not even reached circulation yet.

Americans do not like change, I know that for a fact. I would rather have Polymer banknotes then $1 Dollar coins any day. Perhaps if they just stopped minting the $1 Dollar coins they could save money that way instead.

What are your thoughts and opinions?

It has been reported that a 100,000 Kip banknote will be released sometime in February 2012. The banknote is said to be printed to help encourage the Laotians to use their currency instead of the US Dollar or Thai Baht.

Goodbye Scottish Pound?

It has been rumored that if Scotland is indeed to leave the United Kingdom all Scottish banknotes are to be banned. Coming from a collectors point of view this brings up to main points: First, if they ban the existing Scottish banknotes from circulating we are going to miss out on new banknotes from the Royal Bank, Clydesdale Bank and the Bank of Scotland. Secondly, on the other hand that means new universal banknotes being printed and used throughout the Highlands. This brings up an interesting debate, from a collectors point of view: would you rather lose banknotes from 3 banks and gain banknotes from one universal bank? or just keep things how they are as of right now.

Costa Rica Banknote Update

The first couple images of the "actual" 5,000 and 10,000 Colones notes has been spotted by a JWB reader (Enrique R.) over on a Costa Rican television station named: Telenoticias 7. These banknotes look even more amazing then what the artistic mock ups looked like. Also it was announced that these banknotes will be released mid-2012.

New Banknotes: Iraq

The Central Bank of Iraq has decided that three new banknotes will be issued after the Central Bank deleted some zeroes from their banknotes. The new banknotes will consist of the following denominations: 50, 100 and 200 Dinars. There will also be a 1 Dinar and 2 Dinar coins minted. Images are requested.

New Banknote: Thailand

Starting Jan. 18th of this year the Bank of Thailand will be releasing a new series of banknotes commemorating the great leaders the country has had. The series will begin with a 50 Baht banknote that features King Naresuan the Great. There is rumored to be 16 of these banknotes in the new series.

If anyone can obtain one of these for Jays World Banknotes it would be greatly appreciated. Please conact us if this is note is obtainable.

The Central Bank of Oman will introduce a new 50 Rial banknote on January 10, 2012. The new banknote will have upgrade security devices.

The security features on this new note are as follows: "The security features on the front of the note represent in intaglio portrait of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, twin step window, holographic element (Main Entrance of the Central Bank of Oman), tactile feature for the blind, colour - shift / colour fix magnetic windowed security thread, micro lettering, three dimensional mould - made watermark portrait, perfect see through register, electrotype water mark and spark OVMI feature."

Serbian Banknote Updates

On December 30th the Bank of Serbia issued the new 500 / 1,000 / 2,000 Dinar banknotes to the public. The new notes have the new Coat of Arms. Any additional information and images are requested.
