Fez ainda parte daNorman Granz's Jazz at the Philharmonic touring bands.

An e-mail sent to the association in the form of an open letter from Reelin’ In The Years Productions (which produces the Jazz Icons series of DVDs) brought the issue to wider attention.

in downbeat.com

Lena Horne Dies

Singer and actress Lena Horne died on Sunday, May 9, in New York.
While Horne may be best known for her performances in such musicals as Cabin In The Sky and Stormy Weather, she also had a long career as a jazz singer, working with Billy Strayhorn. She began her career as a teenage dancer at New York’s Cotton Club and recorded with Noble Sissle and Charlie Barnet’s bands in the late ’30s and early ’40s. She told Clare Powers in a June 1, 1955, DownBeat article that while Mildred Bailey was the only singer who influenced her, she modeled her style more on such pianists as Teddy Wilson and Duke Ellington.

in downbeat.com

Several Jazz Artists Honored at Berklee Commencement

Angelique Kidjo and Kenny Barron received honorary doctorates from the prestigious music school

Honorary doctorate of music degrees were bestowed upon some of the world’s most eclectic musicians at Berklee College of Music’s 2010 Commencement this month.
