Here's the super-sneak peek at the new blog layout that myself & KP have been working on, alongside my inspiration (and my messy desktop)!

My inspiration for the new layout is French Vogue's "une fille un style" section, where they highlight the life & style of influential creative women. I definitely hope to be in this section one day, but 'til then, this is my little fantasy version. The photos will change each month, so you'll see a slightly new layout each month, kind of like a real magazine (see what I did there?).

I'm hoping to have it live this week as I'm (still) itching to be back up & posting. I have lots I want to share (including adventures with miss Gala Darling who is staying with me while in LA)!

I'm admittedly terrified of change... but who couldn't use a nice clean slate from time to time?

So - what do you think??

"Fur in my Cap" Video Shoot

Just got done with a crazy 2 days of styling and producing Rob Roy's debut music video. The concept (by Director Ethan Lader) is pretty friggin fantastic, and I can't wait to see (and show you) the finished product.

The shoot itself was hectic as hell. I was running on empty from working on 4 significant projects and close to zero sleep. Murphy's law was enacted, anything that could go wrong definitely did, but in the end I got to practice my problem solving skills like woah and everything turned out well in the end.

I spent the weekend hanging out in Vegas on a total whim. Had a lot of fun playing with puppies, gambling, road tripping, and hanging with my roomie/soulmate/photographer Nato Tuke, who took these pics and probably every other one you'll see of me for the next while.

"Strangely enough, I had a dream about Teen Vogue last night. In the dream, Jazzi McGilbert emailed me to tell me she had talked to some guy at Teen Vogue named Brad and managed to snag me a week-long trial internship. So I get to the offices, only they're nothing like the ones I visited during Fashion U. For some reason I ended up among a group of wannabe-longterm-interns sitting with our feet in a pool and working to memorize a set of rules. Anna Wintour, Carine Roitfeld, and Amy Astley sat across the pool from me, staring sternly. A few kids were diving into the pool, and I wondered how they could do that while the editors were giving us such death glares."

I love it. For the record, Amy Astley would never death-stare! Carine, maybe. Anna, probably. Glad I made it into the dream instead of LC or Whitney. The old school Teen Voguettes know whassup! Holla!

Happy Thanksgiving!

I'll be spending the holiday en route to LA eating airport food and hoping all the pie and greens aren't gone by the time I get home. I'm excited/anxious/nervous and plotting some fun changes when I get situated. Can't wait! LA blogging should commence Monday!

Since we're giving thanks today - thank YOU for being SO supportive of me and continuing to visit/email/message/comment even when I have these stints without updates. It means a lot to have anyone rooting for little old me :)

Hopefully I've helped you out with some sound advice, or at least entertained with my rambling a little bit... because there's a lot more where that came from.

The Resident Artist tagged me (over a month ago) to list 7 random facts about myself. So here ya go:

I looooove the smell of cleaning products. 409 is my favorite, followed closely by Clorox, Comet, and Windex. Apparently this is not healthy at all.
I sing. But I don't play any instruments, and have no intention to pursue music, so most people don't find this out until a (more talented) friend gives me an excuse to get behind a mic. Therefor, I surround myself with musicians for vicarious living, but I promised myself I'll do one open mic night next year. Just for fun.
I was a terribly shy child. Still am on occasion.
Jeremy Scott and I had a run-in on Halloween. He took my picture. I have no idea what became of it, but I'll always wonder.
My childhood nickname was "Jazmino" because I was "mean" and I bit people.
I wait til the last minute, or sometimes the day after, to do everything.
My favorite TV show of all time is Roswell.

Dear NY,

We knew the day would come when I'd be stuck with 2 months rent left in my bank account. I was hoping I'd be Oprah by then, buy a penthouse, and be a baller. Well, the day has come and I'm still not Oprah.

I love your energy, but not your cost-of-living (nor the economy). The fashion jobs have dried up here, I'm not an It-girl-slash-DJ, and I have lots of bills. I also hate when you get all cold and moody on me...

So I took a trip to my other home, LA, to... reevaluate our relationship. And I must admit, I fell back in love. I saw a creative revival jumping off that I want to be a part of, and I hope you understand. NY you hold such a special place in my heart, and I'm very proud of the things we've conquered together, I just can't afford to keep this up anymore. I'm young, and would like to keep some savings in my savings account if that's alright with you.

We have so much history, and I'm glad we stuck it out, but I'm leaving you - though not for good. I know we'll stay close friends, and I'll be back (very) often to visit. And I promise I'll write!

So, this isn't a sad breakup (more of a break), and it's actually really exciting for me. LA will take great care of me (I already found a great apartment), provide me with all the Vitamin D I can handle, and who knows - being able to style AND write AND pay my rent all in the same city - next time I'm in town, maybe I'll have money to burn!!

Even more interesting than the questions themselves, are the often revealing (and without fail, "pretentious") answers that tend to come with them.

I went over the questionnaire 3 times and failed to catch my own misspelling of 'questionnaire'. Fitting.

Questions Answered: Teen Vogue Fashion U

I got a lot of questions from those of you attending Teen Vogue's Fashion U this year, and here's what I had wanted to tell you:

firstly, I have never attended (though I'd love to be a panelist there one day) Fashion U.
please don't waltz in there hoping it's your "gateway into the industry"
it's a mock-university setup because you're there to maybe learn something you didn't know, and maybe see something you wouldn't have seen, but not get a job.
instead of focusing your attentions on the big names/editors, you should take it as an opportunity to make some connections and have fun with your peers - they're the ones who may be getting you that job in the future!
The way I see it, Fashion U is more of a money-making plot than anything substantial in term of "experience" but that's not to say you won't meet some great people and have a good time.
If you can pay your way to NY, I think it's a cool opportunity, and Teen Vogue DOES care about you getting your time/moneys worth.
If you, like me, probably can't afford it - you're not going to be behind in anything. Really.
The emails I got about 'making an impression on the editors' via a standout wardrobe and such led me to believe some of you still think this industry is a lot easier than it is, and I don't want you to be disappointed.
I love Teen Vogue SO much. Really, I do. They've been there for me since Day 1, and TV was my first foray into this industry almost... 6 years ago now. Looks like I'm due for a retrospective post soon.

Unfortunately, I didn't get arund to posting this before the event. So, now that it's over... you tell me: how was it? worth it?

PS - I also still have a video coming, as soon as I get back to NY (in LA right now) and can borrow a laptop that doesn't make an awful broken fan noise :/

Another reason Planet and I have been getting on so well is our shared political values ("To the left, to the left," duh).

Thursday afternoon I stopped by to support Planet Publisher/Creative Director Derek Peck and my President, Barack Obama. Everyone's got their political shirt, but I didn't until now, and this one spoke to me. I've NEVER identified with anyone in politics until Barack Obama, and to hear such a diverse group of people resonate the same sentiment speaks so much to the leadership qualities of this man.

PLEASE exercise your right to vote. Or else please don't complain when shit gets really really bad.

Get your shirt here - I'll be wearing mine long after we win on election day.
