"Give You Nothing" - Bad Religion #morningmusic

Quite often, I'll wake up with a song in my head. Not just the vibe or idea of a song, but very specific parts. Sometimes it's a melodic guitar hook, or it's a particular lyric.

I've decided to write about these when they happen. Maybe they're not as random as I think they are.

Here's the first one:
"Give You Nothing" - Bad Religion

This is one of my favorites, although I'm not sure if I've heard it recently.

I woke up with the following lyric and band accompaniment clearly in my head:

"Respectable, despicable, it seems all the same

I love this song, and I have for a while. I'm pretty sure I bought it from the album title, and knew that the Dead Milkmen were cool. I was probably 18-20 years old. This whole album is pretty solid, and this track is great. Crazy lyrics, good hooks, and a good melody. - jdm

Honestly, and to some oddly, I don't figure out how to play songs, whether it be saxophone, or guitar, for my own enjoyment. I guess I'm lazy. Or perhaps there is a movie or show to watch on Netflix.

Well, on my ride home last night, David Bazan's "Eating Paper" came on. It is such an excellent song. The way the guitar and bass work together to make these thicker chords is genius. And, of course, the organ helps out as well.

The song seems simple enough, but it was a little tricky. I kinda didn't get the bridge, but I got close enough.
Listen to the song and enjoy. I've included two live arrangements. AND if you don't already have the album that this is on, Strange Negotiations, I suggest you check it out. He has done a bunch of cool music since Pedro the Lion.

This show was so rad. I didn't want to be the guy taking pictures all night, mainly because I could see a lot of other people taking pictures for me. Had the pleasure of restringing, cleaning, and setting this guy up. From what I can tell, tuning machines, bridge, and pickup are not stock. I didn't open it up to the see the guts. The neck felt small and the shape was different. Wouldn't be a go-to, but definitely wouldn't mind owning it. - j
