Dr. Darlene Deecher, vice president of research, will discuss JDRF’s more recent focus on translational research at Virginia Mason Medical Center in Seattle on February 22. This type of research uses scientific findings to more quickly and efficiently develop treatments that benefit people with type 1 diabetes.

Sign up today for the 30th annual Nordstrom Beat the Bridge to Beat Diabetes event on May 20. Grab some friends, family or co-workers and take part in one of the most fun fundraisers in the country! Beat the Bridge includes an 8k run and wheelchair race, 4-mile walk, 1-mile fun run, and a diaper derby for toddlers. All proceeds benefit type 1 diabetes research.

Young Adults Needed for JDRF Leadership Council

Scientists Create ‘Smart’ Nanotherapeutics

Researchers have developed ‘smart’ injectable nanotherapeutics that can be programmed to selectively deliver drugs to pancreatic cells. They used a unique homing peptide molecule to make nanoparticles, which were then programmed to deliver targeted, concentrated drugs to specific cells. Tests revealed that this delivery method increased drug efficacy by 200 times.

Scientists Find Cell that Triggers T1 Diabetes

JDRF has funded the first researchers to successfully determine the type of T-cells that are responsible for the autoimmune attack on insulin-producing beta cells in people with type 1 diabetes. They also determined which areas of the islets were most vulnerable during the autoimmune attack.

to the people with type 1 diabetes in their district. Parents and children share their stories of life with diabetes, and ask lawmakers to ‘promise to remember’ them by supporting diabetes funding and legislation. Sign up and motivate Northwest legislators to act for a cure.
