Enter Fastboot mode

Turn off the phone.
Press Volume down button and power button together and phone should boot into Bootloader mode.
Use Volume key to choose FASTBOOT and use Power Button to select it.

Flash Stock Recovery

Download Fastboot package from the link above (item number 3 in the Useful Link).
Unzip it and place the Fastboot folder directly under drive C. Make sure that the Fastboot folder is directly under drive C.
Open your command prompt. (Press Start and type cmd).
Insert "cd /" and press enter to go back to the root of C drive.

Insert "cd fastboot" and press enter to browse to the Fastboot folder.
Insert "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" to start flashing stock recovery file. Don't worry about the recovery.img file as I already include that file in the Fastboot zip package.

History of www.watchaquarium.com

I was cleaning up our old home server that was meant for file sharing among house mates. And I found a huge folder with the photos of our previous website called www.watchaquarium.com.

Few years back (to be exact June 2010), we created a site call Watch Aquarium, where we setup an aquarium with some fishes (gold fish, guppy and etc..), a webcam pointing towards the aquarium and a server that will automatically publish the captured images every 10 seconds to the site.

The idea of the whole setup is to let our website visitor submit messages that will be display at the sticky note published at the back of the Aquarium. (free of charge) We planned to publish some Google Adsense on the site to cover the expenses and running cost of the running the setup.

Upon introduction to our friends, publishing through social networks, we do receive some number of messages.

After a period of time, we decided to shutdown the site. The respond is not very good, and we are also tied to other stuff.. And that's the very short history of www.watchaquarium.com.

We are still keeping the domain, that maybe one day we will reactivate the site.

USB Hub Replacement

Happy 2012 New Year to everyone. Yesterday was not a very good day for me. While working on my circuit board, I accidentally shorted the 24V power to GND on it and spoiled my 7 port USB hub and MSO-28 Oscilloscope. I am not sure how it actually spoiled the USB hub and Oscilloscope, but I think it is something to do with the high voltage and the EMF stuff.

Luckily for the MSO-28 Oscilloscope, I found out that the fuse blew. After replace the fuse, the oscilloscope come back alive.

But my USB Hub was not that lucky. I check its board, and found out that the 3.3V regulator (LM1117-3.3) spoiled, no 3.3V out from that regulator. So, I replace it with LM2940-3.3 (I only have this in my component box), but the USB hub is still dead. I guess the controller IC somehow burned and it is time for a new USB hub. The USB hub had been with me for around 2 years.

Browsing for USB hub, I found this:

It is a 7 port USB hub by D-Link, more information here (http://www.dlink.com/us/en/home-solutions/connect/usb-hubs/dub-h7-7-port-usb-2-0-hub). I place my order through lelong.com.my, the price is RM86.50 including shipping.

Will update about its performance once I receive the item.

Update 2013 01 05

I received the D-Link USB hub from the seller, everything in the package seems good. D-link got its quality compare to cheap USB hub in the market.

As for the previous spoiled USB hub, I finally found the way to utilize it. I convert it into power distribution for all my USB charging device. In my room, I has an android phone, iphone, broadband modem, and a LED lighting for my small aquarium. So, it is useful that I can eliminate all the charger plug for these devices, and use only 1 modified USB hub for the power distribution. Now on my desk, I has one power distribution hub (on the left), and one USB hub (right).

I removed all the components on the board. Leave only the USB Ports, Power Port, Power LED & its resistor, and the the 5V Capacitors. Becareful not to short any tracks on it.

Also, I shorted the signal pin on all the USB port D+ and D-. This is to trigger the charge mode in some devices (sort like telling the devices that it is connected to charger, not a computer). I use multimeter to make sure that all the connection is not shorted, 5V not shorted to GND, or any D+ and D-.

Then I glue back the casing, and use it as a power distribution unit. Everything seems to work nicely, the current supply from the previous power supply is good enough for all my devices.

As circulated in the internet, there are few stories about 2012-12-21. Some says the world will end, Mayan calender end on that day, some planet will crush with earth, the sun will disappear for 3 days, it will be extremely cold or hot for few days, all planet will be align in a straight line and something bad will happen, and etc.

So, recently NASA launch a video, in respond for all these 2012-12-21. According to them, all the stories on internet is actually not accurate. In the video, they gave quite a lot reason why the world do not end on 2012-12-21. So, what do you think?

Ferrari Model LEGO® Collection

Shell and Ferrari recently team up with LEGO Group to create a very nice set of Ferrari model collection. Click on the link above for more information about the model collection.

One of my 5 years old nephew is recently having his holiday in my house. So, I've decided to get one of the Ferrari for him (he likes cars). I fill up my car at Shell station, RM40++, and get a Ferrari F1 model for RM12.90.

Back. Take note that it has the "Ferrari official product" sticker at the back of the packaging.

Inside the package, LEGO bricks always has its qualities.

They even have a dedicated box for the sticker.

The step by step guide, very easy to understand. Even my 5 years old nephew also has no problem putting the bricks together.

For the sticker parts, I do help to make sure that the sticker sticks to the correct spot.

Ferrari, vroom vroom...

My nephew like it very much. For me, the model really worth RM12.90, the quality of the building brick is very good, solid and tight. I think the most fun part is the building part where the model slowly "show up" when bricks are being connected one by one.
