Are Watches Going Extinct?

I got this (above) killer watch from Urban in the mail and I must say it makes my wrist region look pretty damn sexy. But I also can't help but notice that the only people I know that wear watches are my parents and Kristen Stewart in an interview with David Letterman two years ago. Hers was brown leather like mine, while my parents' are gold and silver chained. I guess this is because since I got my first cell phone in eighth grade, I've relied on that to tell me the exact time from some mysterious Time God signal in the North Pole or something. And since then, watches are now a mere afterthought when it comes to telling time. Quite frankly, I got mine because it looks great and I won't have to be so obvious turning my phone on to see the time. My brother doesn't wear a watch either and he's a professional so you think he would.

Anyway, I love my watch. Everyone should go out and buy a cute, cheap watch to wrap lovingly around your wrist. It's a great feeling.

To Sum Up Steve Carell's Last Episode on The Office: Be Still My Beating Heart

First I'll get this out of the way: I was bawling my eyes out from the time this scene started till the credits rolled. Now let's get this out of the way: If Steve does not win an Emmy--or the equivalent of a goddamned Oscar--for his stunning, flawless performance as an emotional Michael Scott in "Goodbye, Michael", there will be hell to pay. He demonstrated the slow but much-loved maturity that Michael has come to own since the beginning of the series in 2005, and in this final episode, everything we love about the quirky, coworker-loving boss just exploded into our hearts and then some. Our glasses were overflowing with pride, as if watching a child go off to college.
One scene in particular where he absolutely transcended every moment he's ever been onscreen was his private reaction after giving Oscar his hideous, hand-made "scarecrow" gift. Absolutely nailed it.
At the final scene in the airport, I became a bubbling buffoon, nearly soaking a paper towel with tears and nose drippings. Pam had been out of the office all day and no one but Jim was aware that Michael was leaving not the next day, but that night and Michael desperately wanted to so say his goodbyes to Pam. But she missed him! His taxi left just as her SUV pulled into the parking lot! But then, at airport security, just after Michael hands over his pocketed microphone to documentary film crew for the final time, Pam runs in, her heels in hand, and stops him for a silent goodbye, mimicking the end of Lost In Translation.
Sigh. Be still my beating heart....

Everyone knows the lovely Emma Watson dedicated her valuable education time at Brown University starting in August, then early this year, she withdrew from her classes claiming she wanted to take time off her her career. Well, rumor has it the REAL reason she left is because of how much she was heckled during her school time! I'm sorry, but wasn't she surrounded by people older than sixteen? She even attended a Harvard-Brown football team with security gaurds and kids were shouting Harry Potter lines at her. Gasp! How disgusting! Even in the classroom when she'd get an answer right, a classmate would shout "Three points for Gryfinndor!" (is it sad I can spell Gryfinndor without double checking?) The poor girl! Honestly it's been harder for me to think of her as Hermione Granger with that short hair of hers. I thought she was doing quite well considering the circulating pics of her on the track field casually strolling about with some girls. I hope she finishes her degree in peace without the tourment of students with high self esteem.

Ok, Here's the Thing About Jamie Oliver

After the second season premiere of Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution, Entertainment Weekly journalist, the queerly sarcastic and often hilarious Ken Tucker, posted an article basically slamming Jamie for trying to swap out greasy fries for cole slaw salads in fast food restaurants--heaven forbid, how would we ever survive?! (sarcasm) I scrolled down to the comments to see a flury of anger and rage upon Ken's attitude towards keeping diabetes-inducing food in and Jamie's efforts for a healthier America out (one comment was literally just "Fuck you, Ken"). Quite frankly, I was relieved as hell to see the rally against what Ken had said (Ken, don't you want to watch that figure of yours?!)
However cringe-worthy and painful the show is to watch, I love its intentions and the fact that it's on TV for millions to witness. This needs to be witnessed as much as possible. I just finished the second episode of the season of which I was appalled that a fast food owner tried to debunk Jamie's idea of a healthier second menu by saying "You're not from America. You're from England. America is gas stations and fast food..." REALLY?? Is that all we are you sad, sad man? How dare he make such a comment about the man's home country when I'll pick England over America any day. As if fast food is what sets the standard in America and makes it better than England. That is some bullshit.
The other massive controversy is that Jamie has this season based around the Los Angeles school district, of which the grumpy-ass, geezer Board will not, without a doubt, allow him to step foot in a single school let alone a cafeteria kitchen, which is basically what all of last season was when it took place in Virginia. However, one school called West Adam in a shady district that's somewhat of an independent school allows Jamie on campus to teach a culinary class. They won't allow Jamie in the cafeteria! Then, over a weekend filled with lawyers, they won't even allow Jamie to ask kids what they eat for lunch! Is it just me or is the Board trying to cover up some weird shit about the "food" that's serve almost 700,000 times a day in various schools? Is their packaged crap really so bad that it would ruin their reputations if it got out? Then why are they even allowing it to be consumed? This isn't the KFC recipe Jamie's after, these are SCHOOLS. Honestly, I don't think the Board gives a fuck about the students. That's the message they've sent out anyway.

I say haters stand the hell back and let Jamie get in the nooks and crannies and try to fix (yes, FIX) the way people think about food in America. I'm vegan so my mind is pretty much set on healthy food 24/7, but it's still shocking to me how numbly people shovel in awful food and then freak out when they gain 50 pounds or wonder why they have diabetes. This isn't rocket science; this should be plain and simple. There's some pretty screwed up information about nutrition in America, so when someone like Jamie comes along trying to make a difference, let the man do his job because this really is his job and he knows what he's doing and how to do it well. Case closed. End of story.
