It's that time of year where everyone is thankful for what they have, but it really is something we can do all year. There are food banks, clothing drives, charity donations and lots of places that need items all year, but only get an on-slot of donations during the holidays. I have decided to make a change in my personal life. Anytime I feel like getting a cup of Starbucks or treating myself to a special item I am going to take that money and donate it to my local food bank. This is my way of giving thanks for the things that I have. I'm also going to keep a counter on here so I can track my donations for all to see. Over the past 6 months or so I have been making Baby Shower Invitations and some of the trimmings that go with Baby Showers. It all started out slow, with only one invitation in a chevron design then bloomed into a few more, now I am expanding with a new design each week! I truly enjoy making these designs, but I also love the work I do with the people who order them, it's so fun to work with people to get their orders just right. Although it's done over email and I never get to meet any of the people I look forward to moving into a space one day to be able to work with these wonderful people in person! New Look for a New Start!

I have created a new look for the rest of summer and into the fall! In addition of a new look I am making changes to my blog, I am making at least three weekly post with themes of things going on in my life right now. I am always making menu's for our dinner plans for the week and posting them on the fridge for my family not to mention my shopping list. There is also another big change going in my life, I have not been running in months and it shows. I am going to update you all with my weight loss/running achievements. I don't like running very much, but I am going to buck up and go for it and maybe my 16 year old son will come with me some days. The job I have currently is my own business on Etsy, Parraclan Designs. I make Baby Shower Invitations, Wedding Invitations, Bridal Invitations, Wedding Menus & Programs, Wedding Signs & Posters, Digital Papers, Clip Art, Moving Announcements, Recipe Cards, Thank You Cards and much more. I also take custom orders for any kind of graphic design.

So look for new postings in the coming weeks for Menu Monday, Weight Loss Wednesday and Etsy Update Fridays!

Follow up to: Hug your children!

Hello all, I am happy to say that my daughter Bella has not had a headache in a month! I know it kind of coincides with school being out, but I hope the worst part is over. The medication she was on made her gain a whole bunch of water weight and made her very self conscience of herself. She has shed that weight and has also been able to play softball since the weather in the PNW has finally gotten warmer! I am hoping that the new school and a new year will not bring the headaches back on, but at least I am now prepared if they do!

Maybe you know or don't know, my kids and I moved back to Washington State (funny how I qualify WA State still) in January from North Carolina. My husband joined us in May after he was done teaching at a small university getting some much needed experience. Well now it's near July and we are transitioning to our new home in the Yakima Valley! We are excited to move, but sad to moving away from our friends and family in NC.

GREAT TIP TUESDAY: Hug your children!

I know, it goes without saying that you already hug your children, but these past few weeks have given me reason to give this as a tip. My daughter Isabella (Bella, Izzy, Tinks) has been having headaches everyday for the past four months. I took her the Dr for the first time about three months ago and that led to treating with ibuprofen along with a headache log for two more weeks. The next appointment the Dr gave her some meds to help with headaches, they did but they switched from getting them at night to getting them during the day at school and in the afternoon and evening time. They helped with the late nights, (which I was very thankful for, I felt like I had a newborn child for a while and she's 9!) but she was still getting headaches. The Dr didn't really know why she was getting them either, we had just moved and was starting a new school but she seems to be acclimating to everything very well and it had been a couple of months since the move. So we went to the Dr again two more weeks later and the Dr decided to do a CT scan.

My husband has a PhD and so do most of my friends, some are even MD/PhD and most of them work with cancer in one way or another so I know a lot about medical talk and procedures. When the Dr said CT scan I knew she was looking for tumors or masses or something not right with my Bella's brain. I knew everything was going to be alright with the scan because she had no other symptoms that come with tumors ect., but that didn't make it any less scary. They were able to get her in very quickly, but the results did not come as fast. It was the longest two days of my life, I wanted to call the Dr, but held out because I know it takes time for Dr's to look at the results. The Dr called and left a message for me to call her back; now I have never had a Dr tell me to call them back unless it was bad news. I have always had the nurse call and say everything was normal or that I needed to come back in for some further tests. The Dr calling me back freaked me out and I couldn't reason with myself at all, the more I tried the worse I got. So I tried to go about the business of my day, I sent orders out, I promoted some items, but I couldn't give it all I had and finally gave up. The Dr finally called back and said everything was fine, I gave the thumbs up to my husband and we were so relieved the scan came back clear. I got off the phone and all I wanted was to hug Bella forever, to keep her safe from anything else that might go wrong.

Now that we knew she had nothing wrong with her brain we still needed to get to the bottom of the headaches. We went to see a Neurologist this week and she thinks that even though Bella seems to be doing well with her school and with the move she is stressed about it. So for now she is staying on the meds, keeping the stress to a minimum, sleeping a lot, and lots of talking to mom and dad about anything and everything that is bothering her. Hopefully this will work and she can come off the meds soon (I'm not a fan of kids being in meds unless it is absolutely necessary and you have expelled all other options).

So hug your children whenever you can because you never know when that can change. Bella's story turned out to be stress, but other's do not turn out as good as hers.

Great Tip Tuesday: Thrifty & Frugal Grocery Shopping and Meal Planning Tips

There are hundreds of ways to save and keep budgets down, but not every tip works for all families. I want to share with you the ways that help our family save money and time, some are old tried and true things, some are just my opinion and they fit my family and our lifestyle. My husband and I have two kids, a dog and two cats. We are an active family with one kid in two sports, the other in scouts, my husband plays softball two nights a week and we coach my daughters softball team two days a week. With that busy schedule we have to plan ahead and stick to our plan! Click below to download the Free Meal Planner!

My Meal Planner

1. Plan ahead and stick to the plan! If something comes up out of the blue roll with the punches, but other than that stay focused on the plan. I use a planner not just for meals, but activities too, that way I know exactly what is going on and how to plan for it.

2. Plan meals for 2 weeks out, then make your shopping list from that. It's just as easy to plan for 2 weeks as for 1.

For example: You can usually buy 10 pounds of potatoes for less than 5 pounds, they won't go bad in two weeks and you saved a couple of dollars. This can be applied to meats, cheeses, just about everything you buy.

3. I shop at Costco for things I use daily and weekly. Kids lunches, snacks for practice and games, water, cheese, butter, spaghetti sauce, meats ect. Sometimes there are sales at the grocery store, but I usually stick to Costco. Sports drinks are big in our house, I buy the packets of Gatorade at the grocery store that way I'm not buying a bottle to recycle and they are a fraction of the price.

4. I do not usually use coupons, lots of people do, but I don't. I found they take up more time than they are worth, I have to buy 2 or more of something to get the discount and I have to drive around to use them. I go to Costco once a month and Lowes Foods, Harris Teeter or Kroger every two weeks.

If you do use coupons make sure it is for something you need and stay organized!

5. I go shopping by myself! This is a biggie! It's great to have help bringing in groceries from the car, but having everyone in the store just creates a higher grocery bill and can be very distracting!

6. I make big batches of our favorites and freeze our meals. On game or practice days I can bring something out of the freezer, warm it up and we have a meal in 10 minutes instead of an hour later!

7. We live a frugal and thrifty life. (That will be another Great Tip Tuesday post!)

Hello all!

It has finally warmed up in the Pacific Northwest and the bees and wasps have made an appearance! Our neighborhood is like many others, people out working in the yard after the winter, planting flowers, raking up derbies, mowing lawns again, and that all important task of bringing out the BBQ from the long winters rest. I tried to go outside to enjoy the sun, (living in NC for almost four years made me a sun baby) but the wasps have taken over the yard and the deck.

I am allergic to bees and wasps, I have to carry an epi-pen with me and go directly to the hospital kind of allergic! When I was a kid, nothing happened, turn 30 and I get allergies up the wazoo and wasps are the worst!! I blow up like a puffer fish, not good! So I wanted to make some traps, but didn't want to spend $10 each to keep the wasps at bay. I looked for some DIY wasp traps and found one that looked quite simple to make.

We have 2 kids, 3 dogs, and 2 outside cats as well and don't want to take any chances on any of them being stung. NEW What I Love Wednesday!!

Today I am starting another new segment, What I LOVE Wednesday! My first post is going to be something I love because it makes me feel and look better, plus I use it everyday: philosophy redness & sensitivity facial products, it's called "keep the peace."

The reason I love it is because I have Rosecea, it is a skin chronic skin condition that can range from mild to severe redness on the face. Rosecea also causes small veins to surface on the face to make the redness even more pronounced and mine sting when they are not being treated. When my Rosecea first showed up it was very bad, I have two different types, my Dr. prescribed me a facial steroid and antibiotics to use, I used the facial steroid for about a year. It caused me face to be greasy all the time and my face still stung (in addition, I could not go out into the sun), so when I moved from Washington State to North Carolina I decided to stop using the steroid. I did not want a greasy face in the nice sunny state of NC, so I looked for an alternative. Someone recommended Clinique to me and I used it for a while, but my skin was still greasy. For a long time I just went without treating my Rosecea, but last fall I found philosophy. I use the products below:

I wash my face regularly, then use the moisturizer, wait a couple of minutes, then apply the color protector. I generally do not use the color corrector unless I am wearing makeup because the product works so well against the stinging and redness of the Rosecea. philosophy is not paying me and I am not affiliated with them in any way, I just love their products that much! Tutorial for digital baby shower invitation, short and sweet!!

1. Insert digital paper into program.

2. Re-size or crop to proportion you would like. (I love 7 x 5)

3. Insert clip art.

4. Insert text.

5. Arrange to your liking.

6. Save as jpeg or pdf with high quality depending on your preferences in printers or printing.

7. Upload to online or local printer, or send to your printer for printing.

Thank you cards are easy to make as well and are a fun gift for the mama to be!

1. 5.5 x 4.25 are the easiest to make and find envelopes for!

2. Follow steps for invitation.

3. FOR HOME PRINTING: Set side by side on 8.5 x 11 landscape page at the bottom of the page. Make sure they are lined up horizontally or they will print out at different spots on the paper. See picture below.

4. FOR ONLINE OR LOCAL SHOP PRINTING: Save as jpeg or pdf and upload and take to shop.

Seattle Mariners Opening Day in Japan

The Seattle Mariners had their season opener in Japan last night and beat the Oakland A's 3-1 in extra innings! Ichiro went 4-for-5 in the game and tied Ken Griffey Jr. for opening day hits. Dustin Ackley, who went to school at UNC (whoot whoot) went 2-for-5 driving in the Mariners first 2 RBI's of the season and had a solo home run to right. King Felix, who had a small King's Court in attendance, pitched 8 innings with 6 strikeouts, 5 hits, and 1 run. I'm excited for the season and hope baseball is on your to do list this summer, I know it's on mine!

I have a lot of new listings, mostly digital paper. I'm trying to restock my store, it's taking some time, but I feel like I am on the right track for the way I want my shop to be.
