I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings

A free bird leaps on the back of the wind
and floats downstream till the current ends
and dips his wing in the orange suns rays and dares to claim the sky.

But a bird that stalks down his narrow cage
can seldom see through his bars of rage
his wings are clipped and his feet are tied so he opens his throat to sing.

The caged bird sings with a fearful trill
of things unknown but longed for still
and his tune is heard on the distant hill
for the caged bird sings of freedom.

The free bird thinks of another breeze
and the trade winds soft through the sighing trees
and the fat worms waiting on a dawn-bright lawn and he names the sky his own.

Jean is proud to be a part of Penn State Altoona's 8th Annual Earth Day Festival, sponsored by Eco-Action, which is being held on Friday, April 24th, 2009 from 10am-5pm. Events will center in and around the Slep Student Center.

Planned events include a drum circle led by Jonathan Murray of FunDrum Rhythm Circles, meditation and yoga sessions, canoe lessons and races, children's activities, a headlining performance by Mystery Train, and of course, exhibits by local businesses, organizations, and other clubs at Penn State Altoona. There will also be an alternative fuel/energy efficient auto show.

Jean will have a Compassionate Illumination presentation and will lead an Earth Day meditation. She will be available for sessions on the campus as well. Grief and loss are part of life. There are many different faces of loss. Grieving is a complex process which is unique to each individual; however, regardless of the type of grief (loss of person, marriage, pet, job, lifestyle, health, etc.) there are common factors which run through all grief experiences.

This seminar offers an opportunity to talk about grief, own our experiences, examine our grief issues, explore healthy coping methods and consciously tend to our bodies, minds, and spirits. GRIEVING MEANS LEARNING TO HOLD ON WHILE WE ARE LEARNING TO LET GO.
