Fear not. A fashion pro explains how to find jeans that will flatter your body type.

Transcript: Find Women's Jeans That Fit
Hi, I'm Brett Lally, designer for Borne, for About.com Style. I'm here today to help you find a pair of jeans that fit and flatter.
Choose the Cut of Jeans
You need to find out why you're buying a pair of jeans. Are you buying them to follow a seasonal trend, for a body conscious flattering fit, or for comfort?

There are four main body types. There is classic straight leg, boot cut or flare, cigarette, and then the new and improved version of the 70's high-waisted jean.
Who Can Wear Straight Leg Jeans
The straight leg is a classic look. It's really built for ease and comfort. It's generous in the thigh, the knee, and has a straight bottom opening.

Its look is boyish, so wear it if you want to be kind of handsome and cool, a la Annie Hall.

A straight leg is great because it allows for all body types. You're meant to wear it kind of like it's your boyfriend's jean.
Who Can Wear Boot Cut Jeans
Boot cut generally has a lower rise, tighter around the waistband hips and thighs, and starts flaring at the knee, so you get a slightly larger bottom opening.

Boot cut is great for voluptuous women because it's tight around your hips and thighs and flares at the bottom. What it does is balance out your proportion.
Who Can Wear Cigarette Jeans
Cigarette is another word for a skinny jean. It's tight all the way down, tapering at it goes, finally with a very small bottom opening.

Cigarette is great for the genetically blessed. It's good for long, skinny, straight girls. It emphasizes your legs while deemphasizing your upper body.

So, if you want to focus on your legs, and you have naturally skinny legs, it looks wonderful.
Who Can Wear High-Waisted Jeans
The last body style is the high-waisted jean. We haven't seen it for a while, but it's coming back in reaction to all the low-cut jeans.

It sits on your true waist, which is much higher then you're all accustomed to. Then it can either taper all the way down or flare a bit. But largely, it's determined by where it sits on your waist.

High-waisted jeans are good for women with small waists and hips because it emphasizes your narrowest point. It makes the eye focus on your thin waist while deemphasizing your fuller areas
Benefits of Styling and Stretch Denim
Styling is where denim gets really fun. Styling happens in back pocket treatments, in whether you get rigid or stretch denim. The wonderful thing about denim is that you can treat it in many ways.

Stretch denim is awesome because it's the equivalent of wearing a knit T-shirt or a sweater. It allows for many sizes. You don't have to be so fit-specific with stretch, because it will make allowances for you.
Make Your Jeans Last
I think it's very important to know that you don't have to spend a lot of money on jeans. I also think you should keep your jeans for a long time. Jeans should last. They should grow old with you.

Walter’s Global Jeans

| View | Upload your own

How to Wear Skinny Jeans

Skinny-leg jeans look great on models and celebrities, but can real women pull off this runway look? Sure, if you follow a few guidelines:

The most slimming look comes from skinny jeans in a dark blue or black wash.
You don't have to go with skin-tight jeans to get the look of the trend: jeans vary from super-skinny (usually about a 10" leg opening) to a kinder, straight-leg cut (about 14" leg opening).
One of the key elements for pulling off skinny jeans is to balance it with volume on top including dolman-sleeve tops, bell-sleeve tops or tunics.
Disguise heavy thighs by wearing a longer, belted tunic over skinny jeans.
Cover up thick calves by tucking skinny jeans into tall boots.
Wear heels with skinny jeans for a leg-lengthening look; pointy-toed flats also work.

The History pf Jeans

| View | Upload your own

All about jeans

Rip them, sew on patches or cut off the waistband.

Pair them with Manolos to be an urban princess or with cowboy boots to be a windshield rancher.

Jeans transcend age, economic and style barriers. Washes, embellishments, leg openings and labels fluctuate with fashion whims, but jeans themselves have reached iconic status.

Although they are the quintessential American item, denim probably originated from a fabric from Nimmes, France (serge de Nimmes means "of Nimmes" -- which became denim).

In time American cowboys, railroad workers and farmers adopted them for their rugged wearability.

After WWII, jeans evolved into rebel wear for teens and then for the hippies. The '70s saw an explosion of styles and fabric treatments; the '80s brought designer denim.

Today, jeans are the stuff of high-end designer wear.

Marc by Marc Jacobs, Jill Stuart, D & G (Dolce & Gabbana): these designers and many more don't think this sturdy fabric is too humble for the catwalk.

What's hot
Low-rise
Zippers
Slim cut
Dark denim
Vintage washes

Glossary

Right hand twill - Using uniform yarns, this weave is considered more rugged.
Left hand twill - The weave runs diagonally, resulting in a softer, loftier feel.
Ring Spun Denim - The original denim fabric, which is known for its characteristic slubs.
Open-End Denim - The most popular type of denim that results in a consistent yarn thickness.
Dirty denim - Filler yarns are brown (instead of natural which is woven with the indigo) which gives the denim a "dirty" appearance
Stonewashed - Most jeans today are stonewashed, but not in pumice stones like the original method. Now enzymes, sand, ceramic balls and other methods give jeans their worn look.
Flares - Slim through the legs, flaring right above the ankle -- to about an 21+ inch opening.
Bellbottoms - Start to flare at the knee, resulting in a 22+ inch leg opening.
Peg legs - Extremely narrow leg opening (very '80s)
Bootcut - Slim through the legs, with a slight flare at the ankle to accommodate a boot (about a 16-18 inch opening)

Cool jean facts

Denim is unique because it is woven with two yarn colors: the indigo yarn and the "filler" yarn, which is undyed (turn your jeans inside out and see the white inside for yourself!)
Jeans were called "waist overalls" or just "overalls" until 1960 when Levi Strauss changed it to its popular name of "jeans."

Hot premium labels

Paper, Denim & Cloth
D & G
Chip & Pepper
True Religion
Blue Cult
Hudson
Earnest Sewn
Joe's Jeans
Jordache Vintage
Paige Denim
Citizens of Humanity
Frankie B
Earl Jeans
Marc by Marc Jacobs
Salt Works
Seven for All Mankind

Levi’s 505 Vintage jeans

Sexy, sexy, sexy…these jeans make me feel when I slide into them. I have been looking for a while for a pair that actually is long enough to accommodate the long legs I have. Furthermore, I have been looking for a pair that is not too tight in the rear, but perfectly form fitting. I found this pair in a trendy Little Five Points boutique, and after only one fitting–this is the pair that I left with. They are slightly ripped above the left thigh, and a little bit at the knee… perfectly worn. They are not the kind of jeans that you can wear to the office. But on weekends, or even during a night out, they are the absolute perfect accessory. I have always been a sucker for jeans that fit like a glove. And I do believe that in Levi’s 505 vintage jeans, I have finally found my perfect fit.

Levi’s vs. Wranglers

Ok, I have 4 sons and a husband. Can you imagine the jeans these guys go through??
I have tried everything to save money on buying jeans, but one thing I have definitely learned is that you cannot find better quality than Levi’s.
We tried Wrangler because they are a bit cheaper and seem to pretty much look the same, but it was a very wrong move.
Wrangler jeans just do not have the durability that Levi’s do.
My boys are teenagers and they are rough, with climbing fences, climbing on top of the house to retrieve a frisbee or whatever, sliding into base. And the Levi’s generally hold up. Few holes or tears in the knees or butt.
However, Wranglers will tear easily, especially in the backside.
So, even though I pay over $20 for the Levi’s, instead of under $20 for the Wranglers, we get way more wear, so are saving money.

Levis

Levis brand of clothing is a very popular brand in India. The quality of this jeans material is excellent. In fact, it is better than most other jeans material. I have liked the Levis brand very much. I have bought Levis jeans for the past few years and I am happy to say that they have lasted long.
But it is to be noted that Levis brand is quite costly. You have to take care of your pockets if you wish to buy Levis brand. The cost of Levis jeans varies between Rs 1000 and Rs 1800. I have never seen a Levis jeans which costs less than Rs 1000.
Levis brand comes in wide variety of colours. I was surprised to see so many verieties of colour.
Levis is comfortable to wear and is a quite stylish brand. But the only drawback is the high cost. But if you are a person of style and are on the lookout for good quality clothing, then Levis is a good brand.
In my opinion, Levis brand has made good progress. But many people cannot afford to buy it. But personally, I have liked this brand very much because of the wide variety of colours and also because it is comfortable and convenient.
If you are on the lookout for jeans which are cheaper, then Levis is not for you. Levis jeans come at high rates. Yet there are times when brands are sold at discount rates. At this time, you might be able to buy Levis brand at comparatively cheaper rates.
But overall, this is a very good brand. I have not got any complaints to make about Levis. On the contrary, I have got only good things to say about Levis brand.
I will rate the brand 8 out of 10.

Levis jeans

Levis brand of cloth is quite popular in India, the jeans fabric is Good - both in quality as well as costing. This is one of the leading brands of cloths in the world, and is quite popular in India as well. A few of Levis jeans that I bought have well lasted over a few years. Although this is not one of the cheapest thing that you buy and they cost you from Rs.800 and goes to as much as Rs.2000 per jeans but then they do last long and they do give you value for money, their fitting is great and the variety of colors in which they come is just amazing. This is the widest variety of range of fabric that I have ever seen only send to Lee, overall they are quite good jeans and can be worn as both formals and informal. They are easy to wear and carry off yourself with. Plus Levis brand makes you get noticed. So, overall its worth the money that you are going to spend on it, and hence recommendable. If pricing is an issue, the keep looking for clearing SALE ! They are Slouch Skinny 504 Jeans (Premier Finishes), Vintage Skinny Jeans and Levi’s (Capital E)eco 501 Jeans. They look mouthful to pronounce, but I tell you, I have the best experience with the 3 of them, and my most favorite pair of jeans is Slouch Skinny 504 Jeans.
Why? Simply because it looks super chic and sexy looking, especially when I match it up with a pair of stilletos or high-heels. And match the top with a pair of sexy looking tube. This jeans definitely makes my legs look longer, and I usually wear it when going on dates, or a night’s out. The look of this pair of jeans is very tight fitting kind, it has a low rise waist and very skinny looking. I have a pretty small calves’ and that helps if one chooses this type of jeans. But it is also very stretchable. Definitely works for me, and the color is great; all black.
My 2nd favorite would be the Vintage Skinny Jeans. This one has a low rise waist too and it is also the slim type. It makes me look very presentable and lady-like. And I normally match this jeans with a pair of sweater-like shirt, cardigan or a long-sleeved shirt. The color I have is called Black Bird. I match it with pumps or flat soles.
The last one would be the Levi’s 501 Jeans. I notice a lot of people preferring this, and wearing this often. But this would be my least favorite, since it looks kind of rugged. But it’s great to bring to outdoor outings. It has a straight cutting and looks easy on the eyes. However, the jeans is not low waist kind, and it sits at the waist. It has a fold-like pattern at the bottom of the jeans, and certainly looks stylish. I just match it with any top will do, plus pumps or high-heels. The color that I have is dark blue.
On the whole, for these 3 pair of jeans, I give 10

The Jean Envy Cure: Tummy Tuck Jeans

For many years now, I have suffered from an incurable case of what can only be called jean envy. I see friends, family, colleagues, and strangers alike wearing the timeless classic, while I experiment with skirts and dresses, secretly wishing I too could pair slinky tops, sweaters, and even just a t-shirt with the unattainable denim dream.
Why am I so envious? Because in every attempt I've made to join the cult I was shunned by ill-fitted pairs that gaped at the waist, were too tight at the thighs, made everything look two sizes too big, and were too low to keep any slight bulges in. And so year after year, as flared styles were replaced by skinny jeans, I just resolved myself to a life of not fitting in – literally.

Yet, just as I was about to throw in the towel – the denim towel – I was introduced to a new brand of jeans – Tummy Tuck Jeans. As the name might suggest, these aren't jeans designed for the 14-18 age demographic, or for the metabolically fortunate size 0s. Designed for women with curves, but with the same sex appeal as any famous brand, this line of denim can cure even the most severe case of jean envy.

At first glance I was frightened, the jeans seemed more suited to my pre-chocolate self, but having tried almost every other brand created, I was up for the challenge. To my surprise the jeans slipped on with ease! A high waist that actually tapers in is what makes the jeans appear small and fixes what so many other pair of jeans fail to notice: that women actually have a waist! Flat bottom syndrome, which every "mother" pair is notorious for, is cured with a slight lift and perk at the back. Even a straight and slightly tapered leg style – which can result in an unfortunate carrot-like look – works well in a looser cut and dark wash. Finally I fit in -- in jeans that actually fit!

The Denim Revolution

The poodle skirt. Bellbottomed pants. Neon spandex (double trouble). For reasons unknown, fashion trends come and go as each decade goes by. One trend that's always remained lurking in the background, however, is the beloved denim. Born in Nines, France and raised in America, jeans have hugged the frames of icons for years. It hasn't always been this way - at one point, denim was simply a faux pas, rather uncool, if you will (seriously)!

Created in the 18th century for miners due to the durable nature of the fabric, denim didn't become popular until the 1930s. It acted kind of like a souvenir for Americans who visited "dude ranches" (obviously they hadn't heard of postcards), and they brought home waist overalls. Then came the 1950s, teenage rebellion, and a young stunner named James Dean. Denim was the quintessential item for revolt, and some schools even banned them.

The popularity of denim grew during the next few decades, finally becoming "high fashion" in the 1980s (along with puffy pants, puffy shoulder pads, and puffy hair...). Remember the Calvin Klein ads? Nothing really did come between Brooke Shields and her Calvin's, and sales for the brand and others soared. The economic recession of the early 90s slowed down sales, but it struck back with a vengeance: the new millennium finds denim in just about every home worldwide.
