Happy Day All!
2002/9/2001 V6 4WD Limited Libby

To my surprise I'm missing a PCV hose from the Oil filler. It looks like it goes to the Throttle body intake box.

The driver side of this TB box has a hose that goes to the back of the intake manifold and has a high Vacuum. Yet the passenger side of the TB Box where it looks like the PCV gets connected to, has no vacuum. Is this a problem?

can someone get me to the PCV & upgrade post? --- Thanks

Ok guys need some help after reading thru everything I could find doing a search.

A few months back the Lib started doing the crank no start that several people have had an issue with. Didn't matter if the temp outside was cold or warm or if the Jeep itself was cold or warm. Anywhere from 5-20 attempts at trying to start it, then it would finally start. 2 codes always present were the P0508 and P0340. Changed cam, crank, map, and IAC sensors to no avail, Swapped the ASD relay and there you go problem gone for 5 months. Then yesterday it shows up again and brought its friend P0344 along.

The first thing to happen was I accelerated from a stoplight and it started the bucking, limp home mode I am assuming max RPM I could get was about 2,500. Got it home shut it off and said I'll get it to the parts store and get the code pulled. Drove it to another store first had no issues at all, come out and it wouldn't start. It took about 20-30 tries and it finally started so went to parts store got codes pulled and those 3 were there. Figured well it's another ASD relay, bought one put it in, started up just fine, drove no problems stopped at the next store and no start. On the way home the bucking showed up again. Started checking everything again and did find some oil on the connector for the Cam sensor, disconnected, cleaned, pulled harness out and inspected nothing else found other than a piched O-ring for the cam sensor. Replaced the O-ring put it all back together, disconnected the battery to clear the codes and it started right up. Drove it and it was just fine for the first couple of miles and then started the bucking again and actually died while I was driving, turned the key off, it started right back up. Drove it back to house, went to parts store rented a scanner and P0344 was there along with 2 knock sensor codes that I think are completely unrelated and were just a result of me trying to see if I could get it stop the bucking.

So with all of that said, I have read a lot that says OEM for the crank and cam sensor, still have those and will try to put those back in tomorrow since I am thinking they may still be good. If the 340 and 344 still persist my only options left that I can think of from what I have read is, ECM (possible but unlikely), timing issue of some sort (possible but again unlikely as it runs smooth as silk), tone ring (most plausible????).

Any thoughts or ideas would be much appreciated.

My 07 KJ's left side Infiniti amp looks like it shit itself which in my book calls for a full speaker swap, I've left everything stock so far. Currently I have the stock HU but I already ordered a JVC KD-X260BT for an aftermarket replacement. I've ordered the wiring harness as well but I'm a bit confused on how to wire everything into the car's harness without using the Infiniti amps.

Could I just solder on both pos. and neg. connections leading straight from the new speakers (Kicker 44KSC6504) to the car's existing wiring harness? From there I would connect that to the aftermarket stereo like usual.

Background:

Daughter bought a used 2006 Liberty. Almost 200,000 on the ticker. A month ago - one of the clutch pack clips broke, making it require higher RPM's to get moving - especially in reverse. I changed the trans fluid/filter - (really so that I'd have an excuse to see if there were any parts/debris in the pan). Yep - chunks of the clutch pack retaining clip.

Took the Liberty to a transmission shop (national chain place here in the Dallas area) that does their own rebuilds.

Within 20-50 miles of driving after a rebuild - have been getting P0740. Always during open highway time (not in stop & go city traffic)

Have now taken it back 3 times to have it fixed... and they have replaced more parts... but so far - every time - the code keeps popping up. Doesn't seem to occur while they test drive it after performing a repair - but usually within a day of my daughter having gotten the Jeep back. (I suspect they aren't test driving for enough distance to duplicate her conditions)

First time back in, they replaced solenoid pack. Second time back in - they replaced the torque converter.... Third time back in - they replaced the valve body - and daughter got the jeep back yesterday. After about 20 miles - STILL tripping the P0740.

Monday will be the 4th time it's back to the shop. No codes were presented until AFTER the rebuild. Are there any other components in a master rebuild kit that might be the culprit? What's the monitored electrical signals that trip this code? I'm pretty proficient with car repairs - but transmissions just aren't something I've got a lot of knowledge about. Trying to understand what else could be the root cause of the check engine light...

Let me preface with I recently rebuilt the rear brakes and front driveshaft so the Jeep sat for about three weeks. Prior to this with daily driving, I never noticed any major leakage when parked etc. I did change the oil after the above work.

I started by inspecting the bottom engine, differential and transfer case. Quite a bit of grime and fresh oil drops. I checked the filter, it was firm, but I tightened a bit more anyway. It did not leak within the ten minutes of my inspection. It does seem to be coming from the front of the engine area.

I went to the store for Purple Power and Gunk Degreaser, same 10 mins, there's some drops in the parking lot. So I thoroughly cleaned the engine area and transmission, differential etc. I've added some UV dye, now it's a waiting game to try and isolate leak location.

Mind you this is fresh oil, I checked level and it's full. This was from overnight.
I've been wanting to change either the backlight color or the actual face itself, I find kits for every other model, but nothing for my Liberty!! I've got an 02 Renegade if anyone has any leads. If not a kit, does anyone have any DIY ideas?? I've seen the "sticky note" thing floating around various sites but doubt how well it would work/last

02-03 camber bolts alignment issue

Working on both the 02 and the 03, I ran into an issue that I cannot confirm on my own. Without looking at another liberty , researching gives me conflicting info.
Background - had my 03 camber bolts cut out and new lower arms installed. I provided the bolts from Mopar outlet. The bolts did not have a flat side to them. The bolts had the adjustment washer under the bolt head as one piece.
The shop who swapped them out aligned it for me too.

Here’s the issue.

On the chassis for the 03 - there is a metal camber guide for the bolt head ONLY. There is not one for the nut side.

I’m currently working on my 2002 and doing the work myself and guess what - both ends have the camber guide. And the bolts I cut off the 2002 have camber washers installed on the head of the bolt and separate washer for behind the nut.

I cannot confirm the shop who worked on the 03 removed bolts that were like my 2002 and have a flat side and uses 2 washers. I also cannot confirm they didn’t just pry off the camber index plate on the chassis on the nut side.

Can I not use the nut-end washer and still get alignment like the 03?

Hopefully this makes sense to someone - thanks !

Quick question.

Wife has a '12 Murano that we just had tires put on (265/60/18 Nokian Rotivva a/t's). She likes them, which is want matters, but at highway speeds they shake the whole car.

3 oz. of balance beads were put in each tire.

Now, here's the question...Can different brands of beads be mixed in the tires?

I don't know what brand beads were put in, but to try and help the shake I was going to put 3 oz. more in each tire (to total 6 oz. per tire). I was going to use Counteract beads which I have in my Harley and have no issues with.

Thoughts?

Jacking and Lifting Point Pics

The manual explains jacking for tire change purposes. The manual pic and explanation are still inadequate in my view. And there is no explanation...

The manual explains jacking for tire change purposes. The manual pic and explanation are still inadequate in my view. And there is no explanation for lifting the front of the vehicle for placing jack stands in the right place.

So here are some pics for those who might be confused or new to the KJ.

Front lifting point for raising both front wheels off the ground:

Be aware that the front suspension travels A LOT and the vehicle is quite high by the time you get the wheels off the ground. Center the jack under the front suspension sub-frame cross-member. Be very careful, as the angle of the lifting surface is increasing and can slide the jack forward and off the cross-member (happened to me on another vehicle) especially if the cross-member is greasy. Bad day!

Once up, here is were you place the jack stands:

This is a notch in the beefy pinch weld on the sub-frame. It is a ways under the vehicle. Place the jack stands under that notch. DO NOT place the jack under the rockers or the bodywork pinch weld more toward the outside of the vehicle, as the owners manual seems to indicate. At least my reading of it.

Had another bad experience with this on my 2001 PT Cruiser. Took it to a shop for some work, and the DA mechanic lifted the vehicle by the rocker body work. It collapsed in of course. Not made to handle the weight.

Hope this helps. Remember, be safe. Block the tires, and stand back as you lift the front in case the floor jack squirts forward on its rollers when the angle of the cross member increases as the vehicle is raised.
