It did make me think and ponder for a couple of minutes and I was able to view the idea from several different sides. Yes, my brain was working.

There is always lots of guidance and inspiration posted on Facebook. As a matter of fact I go there first everyday looking for inspiration. Maybe it'll come from just a thought someone has had and felt strongly about posting regarding their coffee or their recent pains or even something stupid their kid did or said. Or better yet, their cat. You can always count on a cat to do something stupid or funny or both!

But my favorite is quotes by ancient dudes walking around in robes, eating fruit and drinking wine. Single guys mostly, because no woman would want what they have which would have been nothing because none of them worked! So since they didn't work, they didn't pay taxes and were probably supported by rich folks or the state. Not to mention children. I'm sure very few of these ancient philosophers had kids, a wife, a job, a mortgage, car payments, the Internet or the coolest Smart Phone available. So why the heck would I give a crap what they thought or said about life?

If you really want to inspire me, let me know what the poor little bastard thought that had to slave to feed his 20 kids or so who couldn't figure out why every time he turned around his wife was "with child" again. Let me know what that ancient guy thought! I'm pretty sure I might get a better idea about what to expect in life and how to make it through the day.

Just think about it. We have all these major religions on the earth today started by weird guys that didn't work, spouted out a lot of strange ideas, borrowed money and food, drank a lot of wine, talked to themselves and honestly? Probably smelled bad. It's like asking the guy that just asked you for a dollar what they thought about life and eternity and then actually taking their advice!

It's just all mixed up.

How come Alexander the Great couldn't have started some religion? Cleopatra? Henry VIII... How come we don't have a great book of quotes from Napoleon? Instead, we get the homeless guy, ask him what he thought, write it down and try to figure out what they hell he meant for the next 2000 or so years.

So the next time you're walking down the street and somebody comes up and ask you for a dollar, try not to ignore them like you usually do. Instead invite them to dinner and ask them what they think about life, love and humanity in general. You might be inspired or at the very least weirded out a bit. But either way I'm sure it will make for a much better status update then. "yummm. Coffee."

Hell! I've even played around with the idea that the electric guitar was the greatest invention of the 20th Century, but I've put that aside. Mainly because when I do listen to Popular Top 40 music today, I hear very few, if any, electric guitars.

All of the above were great inventions but I have the say the greatest invention of the 20th Century, if indeed it was a 20th Century invention, would have to be Garbage Pick-up!

Yes, Garbage Pick-up. It's kind of magical. All this trash and stuff I don't want. What to do with it? Just put it in this big can and the magical mysterious garbage fairies come by, empty it into their magical "stuff you don't want" truck and take it away!! Wee!

Where does it go? I don't know.
Who gets it? I don't know.

All I know is that it's no longer in my life.

Possibly the greatest invention ever.

I run Windows 7. I like Windows 7. My Samplitude 11 Pro likes Windows 7 and my "vintage" Tascam FW-1804 deals with it and runs very smoothly except when you turn it off first. This will cause the "blue screen of death" and crash your Windows 7.

Since I'm a Tascam fan and have been for 20 years I decided to try out their US-2000. This new Windows 7 supported USB 2.0 audio interface did sound good. It sounds better than the the Tascam FW-1804 just on it's stereo bus. It's more open sounding and cleaner. It did have some other issues so I returned it.

I found a great deal on a Steinberg MR816 and it appeared to have more of what I needed so I figured I would give it a try. Once again the stereo buss sounds very good. It is clean and open sounding with exceptional clarity and warmth. After fiddling with the interface a bit I was also successful in getting to work nicely with my Samplitude. There's only one problem...

The Steinberg MR816 will not play anything without dropouts. This includes Samplitude 11 Pro, Cubase 4 LE, Reaper and even Windows Media player. The first thing I did was do a google (and bing) search and found that this was a common problem. There are plenty of guesses as to why it doesn't work. The first place I decided to look was the firewire card. Most things I've read suggest a firewire card with a TI chipset. I already have that so I've emailed Steinberg and I'm waiting on a reply.

Update June 25, 2011:
After spending time with the Steinberg reps and posting on the Steinberg forum I've finally got the MR816x to play without dropouts. It works best when the wireless is disconnected. There are manay, many posts about the problems with this unit. But it's working with a minimal amount of latency. Can't match the old Tascam FW-1804 yet, but getting there.

So far they do a pretty good job in defending our country. You really can't beat our Interstate System. They're awful efficient at collecting money in different forms of taxes, that is if you look at the job of doing it: Lot's of people with lousy accounting systems. Living in the Tennessee Valley, I appreciate The Tennessee Valley Authority. I think our public schools have just deteriorated to absolute junk! Even the finest liberal will generally have their children in a non-public "for profit" school even if that means stretching a dollar to lengths originally not intended, which brings us to my current rant, The United State Post Office.

Since the snow storm hit Sunday night I have not had mail service. That's two days so far. Granted, the roads are pretty rough but I do recall some sort of slogan about sleet, etc. Even so, I can understand if they disrupt their mail pick up for a day or so. Of course, my creditors are not going to take this same approach to my bills being late! My biggest problem is the parking lot at our little Post Office. It's a small parking lot. Maybe 20 yards x 30 yards. Can the US Post Office not figure out a way to pay someone with plow to clean it off? How about just a good pile of salt scattered about? Something? You literally take the risk of crashing or sliding into another customer in your car or slipping and falling and breaking something. Lawsuit anyone? I was thinking as I crossed their parking lot... Oh yeah, I had to park so my two wheel drive can somewhat use good ole gravity to get everything in motion. So in order to do this I have to back in to a spot so that I can roll forward to get out of the United States Post Office parking lot. ...anyway, I was thinking what could a person sue the Federal Government for if they slipped and broke their hip in the parking lot.

By contrast after successfully mailing my letter and returning to my vehicle without any falls and safely exiting their parking lot I was able to drive to my bank and make a deposit. Wow! Looking at the Soddy Daisy Regions Bank branch you could not even tell that there had been 8 to 10 inches of snow fall in the area. This parking lot was emmaculate! Of course the difference is obvious. The bank cared about their customers or probably more honestly cared a great deal that they not be sued by someone slipping or falling or crashing their car. They are liable and since they are they want their parking lot to be safe. The Federal Government? Who knows? I'm sure they are liable, but suing Uncle Sam is probably a lot harder than suing a private business. I'm not sure and it doesn't really matter because the end result was that I was able to safely drive through the private businesses parking lot while feeling very unsafe driving and walking throught the United States Government's property.

With the amount of mony the USPS has thrown into advertising their flat rate shipping you would think that they might have a bit left over to send to small rural Post Offices. Of course this could have happened and the local Post Office decided to throw an office party instead of hiring a plow because it sounded like a party was coming through the walls when I did drop off my letter.
