Britian's Got Talent - Susan Boyle

2009-04-12T19:49:00.003-04:00

It's been awhile since I dropped by to write anything, but now is the time.

I have not been amazed by any video like this in sometime.

YOU MUST WATCH.

Susan Boyle.

Conservative Minority

2008-10-14T23:13:00.004-04:00

So they won again.
For all you Conservatives out there was it worth it?

Was it worth Harper breaking his own law?

Was it worth 300 million of our money?

Was it really worth the 10 seats?

Congratulations, just a little bit more than 50% of eligible people voted and you still couldn't get a majority.

See you again in two years.

Jordan Knight - Then and Now

2008-10-10T21:36:00.003-04:00

Jordan Knight - Baby I Believe In You - Then

Jordan Knight - Baby I Believe In You - Now

Some 18 years later.

I have to say it was the best 70 bucks I have spent on a concert and I think he sounds even better now.

Canadian Singers/Songs From the 80's/90's

2008-10-10T20:27:00.003-04:00

Since I have decided that it's time for a look back, how about some music that was huge from the late 80's early 90's, and it was all homegrown.

I learned about most of these singers on Canada's very own video show.
It was called Video Hits. It aired on CBC every weekday afternoon at 4:30.
You didn't dare miss it.

Here's a clip from Video Hit's in case you need a reminder.

Some notable hits.

Candy and the Backbeats - Dancing Under a Latin Moon 1988

Haywire - Dance Desire

Can't forget Black and Blue from Haywire either.

Tu - Stay With Me

Taken directly from a broadcast of Video Hits

I have to admit I love the matching cow/zebra print dresses....classy. That was also some pretty big hair.

Platinum Blonde - Crying Over You

We had to learn this song and sing it in music class in 1985....I was in grade 7.

Platinum Blonde - Situation Critical

Eight Seconds - Kiss You When It's Dangerous.

I think this group was actually from Ottawa. Yup from Ottawa.

Toronto - Your Daddy Don't Know - 1982

Lee Aaron -Wha'cha do ta my body

Luba - Let it Go - 1984

Luba - Everytime I see your face

Luba - How Many (Rivers to Cross)

Glass Tiger - Don't Forget Me (When I'm gone) - 1986

Glass Tiger - Thin Red Line

I think I still have Allen Frew's guitar pick from the concert at the NAC.

Glass Tiger - Diamond Sun - 1988

Corey Hart - Sunglasses At Night

Corey Hart - Never Surrender

Corey Hart - Boy in the box - 1985

Songs From The Movies

2008-10-10T19:47:00.002-04:00

In the late 80's early 90's it seemed like almost every movie had a huge hit song. I'm not sure if the song was hit before or after the movie but I thought I would post a few of my favourite songs that were included in some of the biggest movies of the time.

First up is Starship - Nothing is Gonna Stop us Now

This song is from the classic Mannequin. In case you haven't seen it Kim Cattrell stars as a Mannequin that comes to life.

How 'bout a little St. Elmo's Fire.
Coincidentally enough staring Andrew McCarthy from Mannequin.

And to end with Electric Dreams.

The song is Together In Electric Dreams.

I never saw this movie in theater, but I wanted to. I still remember when I finally got to see it for the first time. It was way back in the spring of 1990 my brother and my Grandparents were on a trip to England to see our relatives. We took a weekend to go to Blackpool where my grandmother spend some time as a child. Electric Dreams was playing on the late show. I think my brother was less than impressed to have to watch it.

Here's the video

In case your interested here's the movie trailer.

So What - Pink - Official Video

2008-08-24T01:24:00.003-04:00

So once again I have a favorite new song.
It's been a interesting week.
Too say the least.
I won't bore you with details.
So here is my new favorite song. (well its a tie with Cazwell)

Pink with "So What"

I seen Beyonce at Burger King - Cazwell

Cazwell, gay rapper with I seen Beyonce at Burger King.

Madonna Turns 50

2008-08-16T21:12:00.003-04:00

Madonna Louise Ciccone Ritchie

Born August 16th 1958

Happy Birthday Lady...

A sampling of photos through the years.
In no particular order.

What would a Madonna post be without some music?

First up one of the songs that made her famous and parents hate her.

Like a Virgin

The controversy continued and so did the great music in 1989 with

Like a Prayer

Finally the latest from the Material Girl.

Give it to me.

One of my favorite songs of her newest album titled Hard Candy.

Tac.tv - Têtes A Claques

2008-08-16T19:20:00.007-04:00

Have you heard of Têtes A Claques?
My brother and sister-in-law introduced us to them almost two years ago.
It's a site that produces hilarious short little videos.
Very disturbing videos actually.
They use live action eyes and mouths and place them over cartoons.
I watched dozens of them when I first was introduced to the new site.
Even with my limited French, I was hurting from all the laughing.
This weekend Tac.tv premiered.
Same site but now in English.
You really need to check it out.
Each week there is a new video, there not all classics, but they rarely miss their mark.
The best part for me they are produced here at home in Canada.
Enjoy.

Here are a couple of links to get you started.

The Secretary

Goin' Out

Disney Photo

The Frogs

The Googoos

Now a couple of the French classics.
Even if you don't speak french, give'm a try, you'll see.

The Willy Waller 2006

The LCD Shovel 2007

All Star Family Fortunes aka Family Feud

2008-08-15T20:52:00.003-04:00

Well in Canada and the U.S. this show is called Family Feud.
Like the British usually do they changed the name of game and classed up the show a bit.

Here is a clip of Family Fortunes.
It hurts too laugh so much.
The cute guys didn't hurt though.

I checked the produce department at the grocery store and they never heard of
Les Beans.

Okay here is another funny youtube find.
This is a PSA for the Honey Bees.

Next up gross, funny, but gross.
I didn't think this was really possible.

Lastly trapped in an elevator.

This man was trapped in an elevator in NYC for over forty hours.
The time lapse camera caught it all.
Good thing he wasn't claustrophobic.

M.I.A - Paper Planes as see in Pineapple Express

2008-08-15T19:39:00.003-04:00

I know that I have some unusual taste in music.
Just search back through some old posts and you will see what I'm talking about.
I have been seeing the trailer for Pineapple Express for the last month or so, and I absolutely love the song playing over it.
I haven't seen the movie yet but from what I have heard it's pretty much a stoner movie.
Like the one's made popular by Cheech and Chong in the seventies.
I'll wait for the DVD.
Well with a bit of searching I was able to find the video for the song playing through the trailer, it's M.I.A.'s Paper Planes.
I downloaded the song before my vacation and I drove Mark crazy with it over the two weeks we were away.
I played it over and over again in the car.
I don't know anything about M.I.A., but if your interested click on the link for some info.
Anyway, here is the video for one of the songs that will remind me of the summer of 2008.

M.I.A. with Paper Planes

Just in case you were interested here is the trailer for Pineapple Express.

One last music video because I can.

This beauty is from Corb Lund.
It's titled "Truck Got Stuck"
Love it.
Canadian too..

Told you I like all kinds of music.
Rap to Country in one post impressive isn't it.

Like I Never Left - Whitney Houston

2008-08-11T21:15:00.002-04:00

So apparently I have been away for about four months. It's amazing how time gets away from you. I have thought about dropping by and writing something, but its a lot harder than people think, to come up with something to talk about all the time. Well something that is hopefully slightly interesting.
I just went back to work today, after a nice two week vacation at the cottage. I spent (and I counted) 16 complete days there without once returning to the city. For those of you that now me, that's unprecedented, usually after about a week I start to miss the pavement of the city and head home for at least an overnight stay. That is the longest uninterrupted stay that I have had at the cottage since I was a kid and would spend most of the summer their with my grandparents.
Overall it was a nice relaxing time.
We had the usual occurrences that remind me I really would not survive the "country life" for too long.
First up is the snakes, yes snakes.
Probably a good time to mention that I freak out around snakes. My phobia is so bad that I will avoid walking in an area where I have seen a snake for years. I can also recount almost every place at the cottage that I have ever seen a snake in the last thirty odd years that have been going there.
It started with a small (according to other witnesses) garden snake sighting.
This is where the lesbian friends came in particularly handy, scaring the thing away quite quickly with a stopping of the feet. It must be a genetic thing with them, absolutely no fear.
Next up was the very large (at least 4 feet long) black water snake. That decided it would be a nice time to sun its self on our dock.
Unfortunately for me I happened to be floating out in the water, but I'm proud to say that I didn't freak out light previous occasions, there was no screaming or hyperventilating etc... but I think I paddled my self halfway across the lake just in case it came near me.
I'm happy to report that I was able to leave the water safely and without incident.
The second sign that I not meant for country living is the septic system.
I will say that I have a limited knowledge of septic tanks etc.
I know that they have to be emptied periodically and that its not the most pleasant job.
Those of you who have not had any experience with them your lucky.
First problem is you must find and dig up the cap/hatch for the tank so it can be emptied.
I remember when I was younger and my grandparents took care of all these things the honeypot guy (no idea where that name came from) would show up, dig it up, drain the tank, and go.
Well times have changed haven't they.
You (in this case me) have to dig it up for them.
It stared out well, I was digging and found metal right away.
Lucky, or so I thought, after I removed a bit of dirt from the cap there was a hissing sound, not unlike the snakes from earlier.
Actually I think I might have preferred the snake at this point.
Apparently we should have done this a bit earlier cause it was full, really more than full.
Cause' the lid popped off and it kinda looked like I struck oil.
The hole that I had dug filled up with a nice black liquid.
Yeah, well then I got a whiff of it.
When my gagging subsided I hiked up my shirt over my nose and mouth and finished digging my hole.
Cottage my memories aren't they wonderful.
The nice part of the whole thing was the gentleman who came to do the pumping out of the tank.
He was friendly and had a great sense of humour about the job he did.
It was really nice to meet someone like that, a person that has a fairly shitty job (pun intended) that still can be nice and enjoy his job.
Enough cottage talk for now I'll tell you more later.

The whole point of this post was Whitney Houston.
I am a true fanatic for this women.
I have loved her music for years.
Followed all the marriage troubles, drug problems, and so on.
I was overjoyed to hear late last year that she had kicked all her bad habits to the curb and was working on a new album, her first new material in over six years.
Working with, of all people, Clive Davis , the man who launched her career back in the eighties.
When I got home form my vacation I discovered that her newest song with Akon had been "leaked" to the net.
Now I'm completely biased of course, but its really sounds pretty good.
Here it is for you to judge.

She is looking good and sounding great and what better title for Whitney to make here comeback with, than "Like I Never Left", and what better post title for myself after four months of ignoring you.

Talk to you soon, I promise.

The Blog

2008-04-17T19:38:00.003-04:00

As I mentioned yesterday I passed a personal milestone of 5000 visitors.
The reason I started this whole thing was to rant and sometimes rave...which I think I have done, but also to be part of a global community. When people used talk about "the future" and all the neat and exciting things we would be doing, the most amazing feat to me is being able to communicate around the globe instantaneously.
Some of the people that have stopped by this little blog are from the following places:

San Paulo, Brazil
Castillo Y Leon, Spain
Bologna, Italy
Budapest, Hungary
Stockholm, Sweden
Amsterdam,Netherlands
Paris, France
Fairbanks, Alaska, United States
Las Vegas, Nevada, United States
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

So amazing.

Here's a map of the last 100 hundred visitors home towns.

What are people coming to see?
I was a bit surprised but here are the top three postings.

#3 X-rays of the stars

#2 Aurora Borealis

The number one most visited page?

#1 Brittany Spears at the VMA's

You cant deny the power of Brittany..

2008-04-16T23:21:00.003-04:00

It's been about six weeks since we hit the 4000 mark. Some time earlier this week we passed 5000. Things are picking up. Once again in comparison to some sites not much but for me woo hoo...
Thanks for dropping by.
I have some interesting stats that I will share tomorrow, about what people are coming to read.
You might be surprised, I was.

2008-04-07T20:55:00.004-04:00

Here is a picture of Thomas Beatie. A transsexual who is pregnant. It's been all over the media for about a week but some people haven't seen the picture yet.

Any comments?

Internet Explorer vs. Firefox

2008-04-07T19:41:00.002-04:00

So I have been playing around with the blog layout and looking for something new and I have noticed that if you don't use Firefox as your web browser the blog has some huge and I mean huge fonts in Internet Explorer....
After a about an hour of searching it seems that there isn't a fix for it.
Now I'm a big fan of Firefox as a browser, it had all the features of the new Explorer version, two years ago.
Here's the link if your interested in downloading it.

Get Firefox

Other than that any suggestions on how I could change the look?
Please be gentle I'm very sensitive you know.

Random Photo Finds From The WWW

2008-04-07T18:41:00.003-04:00

At least you don't have to cut the lawn.

These are going on my shopping list for next Christmas.

There are a few people I could buy them for and surprisingly enough there all women.

You know who you are.

I still find it hard to believe that it was almost seven years ago.

Finally

How peaceful.

Time Wasting With The Creepy Girl

You Have To Burn The Rope

2008-04-07T16:58:00.005-04:00

Totally fun and addictive game...great if you a have few minutes to kill.

You Have To Burn The Rope

The name says it all...
You have to burn the rope.

Funny thing is I would have probably had to pay $30 bucks for a game with the same level of graphics only a few years back....now we all can play for free.

4000

2008-03-05T20:21:00.012-05:00

Just checking the visitors to my little page and last night I passed the 4000 mark.
Woohoo.
I know that those numbers don't compare to a lot of other sites, but its about 3999 more than I thought I would get.
So thanks for stopping by, and please leave a comment or two.

Love Ya

Feeling Nostalgic Again

2008-03-03T19:50:00.003-05:00

I was playing around with Youtube last night and I stumbled across a story on Boy George.
Apparently he got himself into a bit of trouble recently.
He has been accused of forcibly confining someone but that not what I want to talk about.
The story got me thinking about some of the music he made in the early 80's with Culture Club.
I really missed most of the craziness surrounding the group, but I really enjoyed the Colour By Numbers album.
The strange thing is I can still remember the first time I had ever heard the album (thats right album it was before cassette's and a long time before CD's). We were visiting family friends. There name's were Andy and Dianne. They were childhood friends of my parents. The funny thing about the friendship was the fact that they all met on a double date when my Mom was dating Andy and my Father was going out with Dianne. Who knew that the couples would end up marrying each other.
I remember growing up that I always was fascinated by Dianne, she was always a lot of fun and paid me lot's of attention.
That and she had one of those light up makeup mirrors and loved to put on makeup. I still clearly remember her sitting at the cottage table putting on her makeup, which even then struck me as odd. Your at a cottage who cares if your wearing lipstick.
That was a bit of topic, but the point is, I was at Andy and Dianne's house for supper with my parents sometime in the early 80's. Waiting for dinner (which was beef stroganoff) when Dianne asked me if I had ever heard of Culture Club and I told her I hadn't and she jumped up and put the album on for me.
I was hooked instantly.
I didn't find out until a few weeks later about the whole gender bending lead singer.
So here are a sampling of some of the hits.

Church of the poison mind.
I think this is my favorite song from the album and one that has held up the strongest over the years.

Karma Chameleon.
This was Culture Club's biggest hit in America and here in Canada.
It's an 80's classic.

Now from their first album Kissing to Be Clever.

I'll Tumble 4 Ya.
Just plain fun.

Do you really want to hurt me.
One last classic to leave on.

Winter Vacation

2008-03-03T19:13:00.003-05:00

It seems around this time of year just about everyone is flying south to some tropical paradise. Everyone that is except for me.....
We currently have two extra cars parked in our driveway as friends and family jet of to somewhere warm.
Now I'm not bitter, not at all, but here is a video for all you lucky people getting on planes sometime soon.

Love ya.

Stephen King's The Mist

2007-11-24T20:47:00.000-05:00

I can't wait, one more sleep until The Mist.

Looks like we finally have another great Stephen King movie.
Many of the reviews are comparing it, in quality, to the Green Mile, Shawshank Redemption, and Stand By Me.
I let you know tomorrow if it's scary enough or not.
