Bible Intake

As I’m enjoying this wintry day, I thought I’d share an email that I sent to all those who are attending a class I’m teaching, Spiritual Disciplines. The reason I’m sharing it with you is so that you can get all the cool tools to enhance your Bible reading, Bible study and Bible memorization. Here you go!

This is your weekly Spiritual Disciplines update. This past week we discussed these things:

God loves you and has given us His Word to know Him better and to know how to be obedient disciples.
Bible Intake is the most important discipline that we can practice.
Bible intake involves: Bible hearing, Bible reading, Bible study, scripture memorization and more.
We need to study the Bible to find the “flakes of gold”.

Below are some resources that I highly recommend for Bible Intake:

This morning I was reflecting on a few verses that God placed on my heart, Matthew 22:37-40 (ESV)

“37 And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. 38 This is the great and first commandment. 39 And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. 40 On these two commandments depend all the Law and the Prophets.”

Jesus is answering a question that a lawyer asked of Him. He was quoting from Deuteronomy 6:5 which was part of the Shema, something that all Jews would have known.

I did further study on the word love. The Hebrew word used in Deuteronomy is "Aheb”. John MacArthur gives us a great modern day translation for this word,

“Aheb refers primarily to an act of mind and will, the determined care for the welfare of something or someone. It might well include strong emotion, but its distinguishing characteristics were the dedication and commitment of choice, It is the love that recognizes and chooses to follow that which is righteous, noble, and true, regardless of what one’s feelings in a matter might be.”

Our love for God is a choice we make, through His strength. It is a determined, dedicated, committed choice. One that is not based on one’s feelings, but a love of the MOST WORTHY!

Great thought for me to ponder all day long. Thank you God for your word written just for us!

Nicaragua - Cleaning out a well

These men are cleaning out a well so that the children can have water at their school. Right now thy have no water. For many, their walk to school is over 1mi.

Our team will put a cap on the well and install a hand pump so they can have plenty of water and keep it from further contamination.

Pray for us as we install a pump on this well and two other wells in this community. More importantly…pray for us as we share with them about the “Living Water” as we work and talk with them.
