It’s been a busy first half of the year with my job change and all the other great things in my life, but I thought I would check in on my progress. General Genealogy Goals Education 1.  Attend the Ohio Genealogical Conference in Cleveland, Ohio (April 12-14).  I decided not to attend this year.    2.  Attend the National Family History Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio

Not everyone gets to have two dads, but I do!  Not only do I get to have my dad, but I get my stepdad too!  Hope they both have wonderful days even though I didn't get to see them.

As some of you may know, I have been working as a Civil Engineer for over 15 years.  When I was in college at Ohio State I had a strong interest in Traffic Engineering, but at graduation was not able to find a job in that specific field.  Instead I took a job as a Roadway Engineer for a small consulting firm.  I learned a lot at that job and eventually I moved on to another company

If you are anything like me, you look for those opportunities to get the most bang for your buck.  The mainstream airing of "Who Do You Think You Are" on network television and "Finding Your Roots" on PBS has resulted in a boom of interest in genealogy by people of all ages.  This also means that there is an increased need for genealogical education through low-cost

“My birthday came in July, and in September I was allowed to take ballet from Lillian Breskin Schiller. Her parents ran a store on Franklin St. a few blocks from our shoe store. There were only a handful of us taking the lessons, but I was in heaven. When recital time came, we danced special dances we had been practicing for a long time. I remember that first recital when our class of

What a crazy couple of weeks! It's been a great time, but unfortunately it's meant that I haven't written much for this blog. Are you wondering what I've been up to? Well, regardless... you're going to find out! First of all, I've gotten quite excited about my involvement in writing for The In-Depth Genealogist digi-mag. I'm their "Jewish Genealogy" writer and it's really been great to be

Earlier this week I woke up with a dream that I'd had at the forefront of my mind.  For whatever reason, I was dreaming that I had looked at newspaper articles on the Fleckman family in Texas and found some great information.  I have heard stories from other genealogists about cases of genealogical serendipity, but had not really experienced it myself.  Usually it is a tale of

I thought since I'm already through a quarter of 2012 I should probably check in on myself and how I am doing on my goals.  Initially I had a pretty ambitious list... and since that initial list I've made some headway.  Here's how I stand now... General Genealogy Goals Education 1.  Attend the Ohio Genealogical Conference in Cleveland, Ohio (April 12-14).  I've

This weekend I was fortunate to be able to join my fellow Midwestern Geneabloggers for a wonderful time of research, sharing, and learning while visiting the Allen County Public Library (ACPL).  A lot of people don’t know this, but the ACPL is the next best thing to the Salt Lake City Library.  Needless to say, I was very excited about the possibility of seeing some books and records

The past two weeks have been quite busy for me at work, but lurking in the back of my mind is a topic that I have discussed with many friends and family members recently.   I often tend to “stew” on a topic for a while before I can put it down on paper and really compose my thoughts.  Throughout our lives we each have goals we would like to accomplish.  We each have followed

Growing up I had always hoped that one day I would inherit grandma's house.  I loved that house even though I was scared to death of the basement.  I spent a lot of my childhood there and thought that it would be mine someday.  Things do not always work out that way though and instead of living there when I grew up- I watched the house get sold.  Grandma moved into an
