Otto is such a good dog. I love this picture because he’s got a happy face, and that’s so nice to see amid all of the stress of a new puppy in the house. He’s not exactly fond of Ursa yet, but I have hope that someday they’ll be friends. But I know he’ll always be my friend, and my sweet Big Toe.

Why do I have my boys swim? Is it to spend a lot of money replacing lost suits and goggles? To obsess over fractions of a second? To hold my breath at the start of every race?

No, it’s because of these people. This is my swim family. They cheer for their kids. They cheer for my kids. They cheer for the other team’s kids. They cheer me up when I’m getting frustrated over those fractions of a second. I spend every fall and winter with them, and over the course of this insanely long season we laugh together, cry together, hug each other, pick on each other, and have the best possible time together. I can’t imagine that any other sport or any other team could have as wonderful a group of people as this.

I’d say that my garden looks sad and pathetic this winter, but for the past couple of years it’s looked sad and pathetic all year long. Probably should get out there and fill the feeders soon, though.

We had a night off from swim practice, so what did we do? Went to the Varsity swim meet, of course! I love our Speed Demons swim family, and I can’t wait till Grant becomes a part of the Varsity team next year. Go Raiders!

It’s interesting to see all of the comings and goings on our front porch through the footprints in the snow. I can see Griffin’s shoes, the mailman’s boots, Otto’s paw prints, and I’m sure Ursa’s are in there somewhere.
