Lisa and Brian’s story sounds a little like something you’d see in a Hallmark movie. They first met during another wedding. Brian happened to be the best man. Lisa happened to be the maid of honor. (Yes…it really is that cute.)

At the time, they lived nearly 600 miles apart. Brian had settled in New Hampshire after college while Lisa was teaching in Indiana County, Pennsylvania. The Boy From Ninth Grade

There are some love stories that begin with a first date. Ours began with a new kid from West Virginia. I still remember when Marc transferred to our school in ninth grade. I was one of the first people to walk up and introduce myself. I thought he was cute. Really cute. I don’t think I ever told him that. Instead, we became friends. The kind of friends who collect inside jokes faster than memories. The kind that somehow end up at every underage dance club, every weekend get-together, every football game, every random adventure that somehow becomes legendary years later. We gave each other ridiculous nicknames. We filled yearbooks instead of text messages. And somewhere between all the laughter, there was a friendship that neither of us realized would outlast almost everything else in our lives. We never dated and after graduation, life carried us in different directions.

Life happened. Twenty-three years happened. Marriage. Heartbreak. Kids. Careers. Different roads. Different versions of ourselves. And after all those years, our paths crossed again.

People have been asking me if I knew the proposal was coming. Honestly? No. Well… maybe a tiny part of me knew something was up, but definitely not this. Marc had planned an entire weekend away and was being adorably, painfully obvious about keeping it a secret. Every time I asked a question, he’d grin and say, “Just trust me. Please don’t ask questions. It’s important.” But if you know Marc, you know that isn’t unusual. He’s the kind of man who stops me in the middle of an ordinary day just to tell me I’m beautiful. Every. Single. Day.

He’s affectionate without hesitation. He says exactly what he feels. He’ll grab my hand in the grocery store, kiss my forehead in a parking lot, or tell me how lucky he feels in front of an entire room full of people without thinking twice. So when he stopped me halfway up the grand staircase… It didn’t register. Because that’s just… Marc. I thought he was about to tell me he loved me. Again.

Then his voice started shaking. His eyes filled with tears. And suddenly… I realized this wasn’t another one of his sweet moments. This was the moment.

For months, he’d been carrying around the biggest secret of his life. He’d picked out the ring completely on his own, with a little help from his mom and sister, who had gone with him while he searched for the perfect one. Let’s just say… The man absolutely understood the assignment.

Like any good love story, things didn’t go exactly according to plan. The original location disappeared behind thick smoke from the Ontario wildfires that had drifted into Pittsburgh that weekend. So he pivoted. Instead, he chose the steps of the The Atterbury Hotel. Ironically, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Months earlier, we’d stayed there together and had one of those weekends you tuck away forever, the kind that quietly becomes part of your story. Now those same steps became the place where our next chapter began. Funny how life does that.

Just when I thought I had recovered enough to say yes… Marc smiled, pointed toward the crowd gathering nearby, and said, “Look.” I turned around. Standing there… Cheering. Clapping. Camera in hand. …were my best friend Aric and his wife. They had secretly flown all the way from Texas just to be there. I had talked to Aric on the phone the day before. I had texted him on our drive to Pittsburgh. I was convinced he was sitting in Texas the entire time. Turns out… He’d been texting me from an airplane.

The rest of the weekend was exactly what you’d hope it would be. Dinner. Drinks. Friends. Lots of staring at my left hand. Lots of laughing. Lots of looking at Marc when he wasn’t paying attention and thinking…”I get to marry him.”

Twenty-three years ago, when we graduated high school, Marc wrote something in my yearbook. Most of it was exactly what you’d expect from two teenagers, inside jokes, stories, and memories that only made sense to us. But at the very end, he wrote five simple words. “Don’t forget about me.” Life took us in different directions. But somehow…I never did forget him.

And this past weekend… The boy from ninth grade asked me to marry him. Twenty six years after we graduated, I said yes.  ♡

Ask Dylan when he realized Ainsley was different, and he won’t tell you about fireworks or some cinematic first kiss. He talks about pizza. More specifically… The college special from their local pizza shop.

One of their first nights together was spent ordering way too much food, watching movies, relaxing on the couch, and realizing neither one of them had to pretend to be anyone else. Sometimes that’s exactly how you know because it finally rests.

The Number She Almost Didn’t Give Him

Their story actually began at a bar. When Dylan asked for Ainsley’s number… She laughed.

His version? “Guess she thought she was too good for me.”

Her version? “I had a few drinks and thought he was charming, so I caved.”

Safe to say they’re both sticking to their stories. Thankfully she gave him her number anyway.

The Proposal She Knew Was Coming… Sort Of.

Dylan almost pulled off the perfect surprise. Almost. About an hour before proposing, Ainsley noticed something felt different. His biggest giveaway? He made dinner reservations. Apparently that’s not something he normally does.

After dinner, they took a short hike into a secluded wooded area beside a river. Waiting there was a blanket, flowers, a custom sign with their names and the date, and Dylan’s sister hiding behind a tree to photograph the entire proposal. Even though she suspected something was coming… It didn’t make the moment any less meaningful.

The Little Things That Matter Most

One of my favorite questions I ask couples is what an ordinary Saturday morning looks like. Not the Instagram version. The real version.

For Ainsley and Dylan, it’s wonderfully simple. Sleeping in. Making coffee. Cooking breakfast together.

Those are the moments that quietly build a marriage. Not vacations or holidays. Just ordinary mornings that eventually become years.

A Session That Felt Like Summer

One of my favorite things about this session is how effortlessly everything came together. The soft blue floral dress looked right at home against the dark wood of the old barns. The evening sunlight wrapped around her as she walked through the fields. The wildflowers added just enough color without stealing the spotlight.

All Playroom Mini Sessions take place in my studio near Indiana, Pennsylvania. The indoor set is colorful, playful, and weather-proof, so you never have to worry about rain or summer heat.

What should my child wear?

Two Celebrations. One Love Story.

Six months earlier, I photographed their intimate Nikkah Ceremony at home. This June, I had the privilege of documenting the second chapter of their celebration, a vibrant reception surrounded by family, music, tradition, and joy. While the atmosphere was completely different, one thing remained exactly the same… Every tradition meant something.

 It was quiet. Intentional. Filled with family, faith, and the kind of moments that don’t need a microphone to be meaningful. This past weekend was something completely different.

The second chapter of their wedding story unfolded during a joyful reception near Pittsburgh, surrounded by more than a hundred family members and friends who traveled from near and far to celebrate alongside them. While the atmosphere was bigger… The heart of the day never changed. It was still about family. Still about belonging. Still about two people choosing each other.

Pakistani Weddings Are About More Than One Day

One of the things I love most about photographing multicultural weddings is learning that there isn’t just one “right” way to celebrate. Many Pakistani weddings include multiple events, each with its own purpose and meaning. Every family celebrates differently, but often the wedding story unfolds over several days…or even months. Their journey began with an intimate January Nikkah surrounded by immediate family. Their summer reception became an opportunity to celebrate with an even larger community of people who love them. Instead of one day carrying every expectation, each celebration was allowed to become exactly what it was meant to be. I think there’s something incredibly beautiful about that.

Some seniors arrive at their session feeling nervous. Others show up ready to take on the world. Ransym definitely falls into the second category.

As a member of the Class of 2027 at Indiana Area Senior High School, Ransym brought an energy that was impossible not to love during her senior session. Her smile came easily, her laugh was genuine, and she looked completely at home surrounded by the open fields and country scenery we used throughout her session. While every senior session is unique, this one felt especially fitting because the location matched her personality perfectly.

More Than Just Senior Photos

One of my favorite parts of photographing seniors is getting to learn who they are beyond what shows up in a yearbook photo. Ransym is involved in Indiana’s Varsity Girls Golf Team and somehow still finds time to participate in several clubs and organizations throughout the school. She is involved with the Green Bandana Project, which focuses on suicide prevention awareness, Athena Club, Student Government Association, and more. When asked to describe herself, she chose three words:

Outgoing. Ambitious. Loving.

After spending time with her during her session, I’d say she nailed all three.

A Girl Who Wasn’t Meant to Stay Still

When I asked what she hopes to do after graduation, her answer immediately stood out. She dreams of becoming a journalist and traveling the world. Not just visiting new places…but truly experiencing them.

For someone who already loves adventures, road trips, travel, and spending time with friends, that future feels like a natural fit. There’s a curiosity about the world that shines through in her personality, and I have a feeling this small-town girl has some pretty big adventures ahead of her.

The Soundtrack of a Free Spirit

One thing I love asking seniors about is their music taste because it always tells me a little more about who they are. Ransym’s playlist is a perfect mix of country and classic rock. You’ll find everything from Miranda Lambert and Ole 60 to Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, and Paramore.

And although she may not advertise it publicly… She did admit to having a secret appreciation for Taylor Swift.

Don’t worry, your secret is safe with me. haha!

What She Wants to Remember

One answer from her questionnaire stuck with me. When asked what she wants to remember most about this chapter of life, she shared that even though there were difficult times, those challenges taught her valuable lessons. She made the best of those moments and found friendships through them.

Honestly, that’s one of the most mature answers I’ve received from a senior. Life doesn’t always go exactly as planned, but learning how to grow through hard seasons is a skill that will serve her far beyond high school.
