Feed me: The 7 x 7 Show

I've got some really exciting news! We're working on a brand new project here to help end senior hunger. During Brookline Open Studios on May 5th and 6th, we'll be hosting the Feed me: the 7 x 7 Show.
The show will have 49 pieces of art (get it? 7 x 7=49) by artists from Brookline and the greater United States.
Each work of art will measure 7" x 7" and will be in a variety of different media.
A $49 donation to Meals on Wheels will help feed a senior for 7 days.
A $49 donation made at Feed me: the 7 x 7 Show will feed a senior for 7 days and will get you a rockin' piece of art worth at least $49 (and probably a lot more!)

Mark your calendars now! Don't miss this event...there are only 49 pieces of art. Stop by, make a donation, pick your favorite piece of art, and help us help Meals on Wheels to feed more that 340 seniors.

Your Set or Mine?

Work is good. It always is. Even though I don't seem to have enough time to work on my art, I do get the opportunity to work with creative people in creative ways.
Recently, I was back at Interweave Studios working with a great line up of mixed-media artists. It was nice to be on the back side of the camera helping to produce some great workshops. I did get some camera time while interviewing each of the artists for their future video promos. I absolutely love this picture of the two of us. I think we were arguing over who like the other person more...ok, it was totally staged, but it really is great to work with Jules.

In this second picture, I've just wrapped up taping two episodes of Scrapbook Soup (no, I didn't teach scrapbooking--I demonstrated a couple mixed-media projects).
Jenny from Crafttestdummies.com stopped by to visit, too.
The next big thing on my to do list at work is to go to CHA (the Craft and Hobby Association convention) in Anaheim, CA. I'll be teaching a really great demonar that has already sold out, and will be helping to judge the Innovations awards. Oh, I'll also be seeing a lot of Julie, and Jenny, and so many more creative, artistic, inspiring, spirit lifting friends! I was at CHA a year ago and my Father-in-law passed away while I was there. I was devastated to be away from my family at this time of such great loss. (I really loved Jeff, and miss dearly every day.) But I was surrounded by my artistic family. Everyone I ran into gave me the support I needed until I could get back home.
So yes, my job is great, the fine line between home and work happily bounces back and forth as my friends become family and work continues to feed my creative needs.

I’m counting the ways—a new assemblage of love

oh boy, I am definitely in a rut. I seem to keep being invaded by emotions of love while I’m working these days. Perhaps it’s because Matt and I are celebrating our 20th Day-we-met-iversary. (we’ll be married 16 years this July). I’m finding myself reminiscing a lot.

So in celebration of all this love, here is a new assemblage I just finished up, called “I’m Counting the Ways”.

More Produce! Making art never tasted so good!

Here is more of my work in progress! I’m really enjoying this new artistic path. It’s something I started playing around with last year for my HC Studio show in this piece. Essentially I’m working from a black background instead of white. It makes you look at negative space in an entirely different way.

These are the little produce inspired pieces that I promised you yesterday in my Ketchup Post.

At this point they are all about 1/2 way done. This technique requires me to work on multiple pieces at the same time to keep from going mad. You have to keep letting the paint dry before going onto the next step…My mom said patience is a virtue—I say it’s more of a necessity.

My ketchup in progress…

My ketchup finished!

I dig ketchup. Seriously, when I eat fries (which is not often), I do so purely as a vehicle to get more ketchup in my daily diet.

This is a new direction that I’m trying out. This piece is on the larger side and I have been working on a similar technique with produce in a much smaller size.
