I apologize for the lack of posts lately--I've been devoting a lot of time to putting together my new blog, which should be ready to go up sometime this week! In the meantime, take a look at James and Joanne's beautiful wedding.

These two lucked out with an absolutely GORGEOUS October day for their wedding at The Lighthouse. They got to take advantage of the terrace being opened up as cruiseships and sailboats would casually drift by in the Hudson. For their portraits, we took a quick cab ride down to the meatpacking district. Only in NY does the grittiness work for you this much!

I had such an AMAZING time shooting Sarah and TJ's wedding out at Pellegrini Vineyards with my guest shooter, Jordan Van Aken. As I said to them, it was like shooting at my dream venue! Such an exciting time for Sarah and Emily--they were just married a couple months ago on the very first day that same-sex marriage was legal here in NY. And soon a baby girl! I can't wait to meet her :)

Celebrating 50 Years: Didi and Gonzalo

Photographing these two lovebirds was like photographing a couple of teenagers who couldn't keep their hands off each other ;)
Didi and Gonzalo are originally from Cuba, and they moved to the states shortly before having children. They currently live in Miami, and for their 50th anniversary, their kids flew them to NYC and surprised them with a photo session in the park, followed by a horse-drawn carriage ride!. Watching these two together (especially as a newlywed myself), you can't help but be inspired.

As I've told Paula already several times, I am so SMITTEN with these two! They are an absolutely adorable couple who just radiate happiness. Love them, love their guests, love their music, love Hall's Pond that they live on and got married next to--just love all around. And apparently I'm not the only one who thought they deserved a little shout out for being such a model of romance. I shot alongside Tina Fineberg of the NY Times, as they were a featured couple in the Vows column last Friday! Read their story HERE. It's a good one :)

Meet Al and Joyce--they are the proud parents of a bride whose wedding I photographed two weeks ago. Joyce asked me to take a portrait of the two of them. After snapping the first shot, I asked, "how long have the two of you been married?"

"51 years!"

"Wow," I said, "can you tell me what the secret is?"

A huge smile spread over Joyce's face, and she answered, "Well, what he always says is.....'lack of communication'!!!"

And I see from her laughter what another one of the secrets is :)

Brooklyn Wedding: Sara and Jonatan

I just love it when a couple's wedding is so touching that it works its way through my lens and I end up wiping away my tears along with the rest of the guests. So it was with Sara and Jonatan. What a beautiful couple they are together.

Sara serenaded Jonatan and their guests with the beautiful song, "Someone to Watch Over Me"

Then, Jonatan surprised Sara with a performance of "The Death of My Enemies" by Toby Goodshank. Also, this is the song featured in the slideshow!

They had an Argentine wedding cake, where there are charms tied to the ends of ribbons under the cake topper. Whoever gets the ring on one of the ribbons is said to be the next to get married!

NYC Wedding: Liron and Nick

As per almost all of my recent posts...it was a HOT one! I think close to, if not 100 degrees on the day of their wedding. But you'd never know it in how gorgeous Liron managed to stay throughout the day. Their ceremony and reception were held at Battery Gardens in the Financial District. These two are just the sweetest couple--at times during the ceremony, Liron would even glance over at me and give me a little wink--how sweet is that for a photographer to get?

Pop Up Chapel: Hooray for legalized same-sex marriage!

Last Saturday, I had the honor of being a part of New York history! In celebration of the first full weekend of same-sex marriage being legal in NY, Pop Up Chapel hosted 24 same-sex marriages at Columbus Circle! I volunteered my time for the day, and photographed two couples as they tied the knot in front of their families, friends, curious onlookers, and about a thousand TV and publication cameras. Congratulations, everyone!

Jawwad and Sophia are old pros at having their picture taken. They got married and had plenty of formal celebrations earlier in the month in California--including SEVERAL other portrait sessions! I hope mine holds up :)

Since they were already technically married, this was a reception for all the folks here on the east coast. After getting all dolled up, we scooted over to the Princeton University campus for our portrait session (gorgeous grounds!), and they held their reception at the Hyatt Regency in Princeton, NJ.

Congratulations, Jawwad and Sophia! And a big thanks to my assistant, Larry Westler.

It was HOT. And it was humid, and to top it off, it was windy. But somehow this ended up being one of my favorite engagement sessions I've ever shot. Sara and Jonatan are so cute with each other that every stop along the shoot ended up being an adorable photo series. You'll see what I mean here...

This is Jackie and Anthony, part 1 of 2. We did a "day after" portrait session at the location where they had their venue, The Inn at Longshore in Westport, CT, so that will be a post all its own. Despite the rain (that's been the trend lately), their day was filled with warmth, love, laughter, and DANCING! Oh, the dancing :)

Wedding: Shara and David

Shara and David ended up with a rainy day, but how much do I love the fact that they were determined to do portraits outside in it, anyway! They had their ceremony and reception at the beautiful Temple Shaaray Tefila in Bedford Corners, NY. The couple actually lives in Israel, so they get to do this all over again on a whole 'nother continent :)

Wedding: Jane and Jesse

The first thing Jesse said when he saw Jane on their wedding day: "You look like a princess." And doesn't she? How gorgeous is she in that dress?? I could've taken portraits of these two for days...

They had scouted out the perfect place for their "first look" and portraits--the Maritime Museum in West Sayville, New York. From there, we headed to the Snapper Inn in Oakdale for the ceremony and reception. And guess what? Jane and Jesse made their entrance to the ceremony on a boat!

I had so much fun meeting Jane, Jesse, and all their family and friends. Congratulations, you two! And a big thanks to my second shooter, Jordan Gomez.

Married: Roseanne and Frank

I had already known how great Roseanne and Frank were from their engagement session last fall, but what REALLY hammered it home was when I found out that we share a deep love for Neil Diamond--a couple after my own heart ;)

I had such a good time photographing their wedding at St. Francis de Sales Church in Belle Harbor and the reception at the Bridgeview Yacht Club in Island Park. It's so easy to see how much fun they have together--the smiles and laughter come so readily! Thanks so much to my fabulous second shooter, Dante Williams.

Engaged: Caitie and Phil

I had a fantastic time shooting Caitie and Phil's engagement session in Central Park. Caitie has such expressive eyes and Phil had me laughing so much that I totally lost all track of time and ended up shooting them for twice as long as these sessions typically go! But they're used to being in front of the camera--they're both performers (opera singers!). I so cannot wait to shoot their wedding in March. Here's a few of my faves...

Thoughts on a Sunday Morning

I woke up early this morning for a Sunday--at 6:00 a.m., still high on the amazing wedding I shot last night. When my husband woke up a couple hours later, I relayed all the details of yesterday's shoot to him, telling him all about the couple and what they're into, her dress, his suit, their crazy friends, their sweet family, everything. And I ended it by saying, "they're just really great!"

This morning I'm feeling so lucky that I thought I would write about it here. I'm lucky because I get invited into the most special day of someone's life almost every week. It seems the last couple I've shot is somehow always my favorite. But when I think about it, it's that each pair is in love in an entirely different way so that it feels new to me during each wedding, or engagement, or maternity, or family. And when I see that love between them, I just want to make them happy.

I just got married myself about month ago, so bear with me if I'm being overly mushy today--still a lot of leftover sentimentality that I just don't know what to do with ;) I guess the thought here is just that I love my job. I love getting to know my clients and seeing what makes them tick. We're all such incredibly different people, and what I hope to do with my photography is put an emphasis on those differences, so that the people I fall in love with each week really show for who they are in my images.

Married: Michelle and Yoni

Michelle and Yoni met at a Hungarian Pastry shop in NYC and ended up talking for a few hours. Two days later they went on their first date--and the rest, as they say, is history.

Their wedding was at Temple Emanu-El in Closter, NJ and was a blast to shoot. Their families are so full of life and energy!
