Kim and Mike’s beach wedding was not only a beautiful day but it was super sweet for me on a personal note. I got married on the very same beach almost ten years ago. So you can imagine that I was more than a little excited to be shooting a wedding at North Beach Park in Ferrysburg. It was a nice hot summer day and I count myself lucky that I got to be a part of the whole thing. Kim is not only beautiful but has a smile that lingers on her face. She was happy and it was a joy to shoot. Mike was a cool mix of excitement and calm through the whole day. They were a dream to work with and I wish them a lifetime of happiness! And many thanks to Andrea Hughes for helping me capture the day!

There are so many misconceptions about birth photography that when I tell people I shoot births I’m usually prepared for their shocked reactions. But all the words in the world cannot explain it as well as simply showing them. So, I am delighted to be able to show you how this couple became a family on a cold and sunny day in January.

I wouldn’t feel right if I didn’t tell you how wonderful this couple is first, though. I’ve seen a lot of moms and dads and these two are among the most inspiring to me. She labored on in silent strength while he lovingly stood beside her and held her hand the entire way. I was especially humbled to be asked to document this baby’s birth and I continue to be blessed to call them friends. Thank you!!

It’s hard not to love your job when the people you are around are as happy as Sarah and Andrew. Their wedding in Holland was so much fun to shoot! There are two things that I really loved about this wedding. First, Sabrina and Grant know how to have fun. From start to finish these two were all smiles and grins and were bound and determined to squeeze every last drop of fun out of their wedding day. I loved it! Second, their reception was held in Holland at the Holland Area Arts Council. Can you say amazing?? It was a gorgeous place to shoot and between the backdrop of all the art mixed with all the love and fun of Sabrina and Grant’s wedding day, it was perfect. I can’t wait to share these photos!

I was really looking forward to this shoot not only because I love preggo bellies but because the daddy-to-be is a fellow photographer friend of ours. (And although the the mommy-to-be isn’t a photog, she’s not too bad herself!) It’s always fun for me to shoot photographers, but I really enjoyed sharing this special time with friends. I love the craziness and mayhem that happens all day long at a wedding. I love the excitement and the rush and the buzz in the air. I love how happy and joyful everyone is. What I loved about Meredith and Michael’s wedding was that even with the normal chaos, it was relaxed and there was this easy way about how the day unfolded. It still had that sense of excitement but it also had a distinct sense of purpose. Like it was meant to be. I loved their intimate wedding and I am thankful I had the chance to be a part of it. There are A LOT of things I love about living in a little town along the shores of gorgeous Lake Michigan. A lot. There is, however, an unmistakable pull toward the big city, especially for me, Detroit. I grew up a few miles north of the city so it’s fun to be near my old stomping grounds, and big cities always seem to have this buzz of energy that I love. So, I was thrilled to take a mini road trip east to shoot Wendy & Matt’s wedding in downtown Detroit. It was really cool to see the way these two families blended together. It was a wonderful day and I’m so glad I got to be a part of it. Congratulations to Matt & Wendy!!

I wish I could put into words how amazing Jessica and Ryan are together. I guess I’m lucky that you can see it in their photos. Look at the way she looks at him. Look at his body language when he’s holding her. You can see it plain as day. These two were meant to be together. I loved a lot of things about this wedding – gorgeous location in Grand Rapids, super cool venue for the reception (San Chez – yumm-o!), stunning couple… but what made it most fun for me was watching Jessica and Ryan as they started this chapter of their lives together. I don’t know how it is that I happen to always have the best clients getting married in West Michigan, but I do! Anne and Rob are two of the sweetest people you could ever hope to meet. And fun. They both have a sense of joy and ease. I loved shooting this wedding, and not just because my husband Cory (who is a phenomenal photojournalist) shot with me. Rob and Anne’s wedding was everything you’d want your wedding to be. They were surrounded by friends and family and as the day unfolded it really told their story. There are a few things that never get old for me. One of those is how gorgeous West Michigan really is. Sure, it can snow 6 months out of the year, but on a warm fall day when the autumn colors are practically glowing in the sunset you kinda forgive Old Man Winter’s long stay. Another thing that never gets old is a momma-to-be. So, imagine my excitement when I got to combine the stunning fall colors at their peak with a new mom at her peak! I had a lot of fun on this session and the locations were not only beautiful but also meaningful and included the little red school house where this couple was married two years ago, and the mom’s childhood home. I’m glad we did the session when we did because their little guy showed up a few short days after we took these photos! Shannon and Jared’s summer wedding at their Grand Haven home is the reason why I love what I do so much. From start to finish the whole day was celebration of who they are. I loved getting to know their friends and family as they rallied to help clean up after a major thunderstorm crashed through just hours before the ceremony was to start. Nicole and Craig’s Grand Haven beach wedding was wonderful. Hot, but wonderful. Grand Haven was in the middle of a wee little heat wave, but when you have your wedding on the shores of Lake Michigan you have the benefit of a soft, gentle lake breeze. The coolest part of shooting weddings for me is that I get to really know these families throughout the day. Mary and Justin were such a wonderful couple to shoot! Their Grand Haven summer wedding was a little chilly but that didn’t dampen any spirits. And as you can see from the photos this was such a fun group of family and friends. I want you to meet Sarah and Andrew. They rock. They are seriously super fun people, and I have never laughed more on an engagement shoot like I did with these two. We shot their photos at Millennium Park in Grand Rapids because this is one of the places they spend a lot of time together walking and talking as a couple. With Hoffmaster State Park and Lake Michigan in my community it’s hard to impress this city girl, but Millennium Park was awesome. I looooved it there and I’d love to shoot there more often. The park was awesome and this couple is awesome!

This is little Miss Lily, and she just might be the sweetest baby ever born. Look how cute she is!! I could have photographed her all afternoon. I would drive to Holland every day of the week to shoot her. And let me tell you, her parents are amazing. Lily is so blessed to have been born into a family that I’m sure could not adore her any more.
