Erin and Zack! This couple has everything, love, laughter and big smiles! They came in from Chicago, for an engagement session on the Tuesday before their wedding in Hilton Head on Saturday! Boy was it a smart thing to do as this past Saturday was a rainy one and I couldn’t get many outdoor photos of the two of them! I am working on their wedding now! Stay tuned!

Ashley & Brian | I’on Creek Club Wedding | Charleston, SC

Ashley and Brian, might be the most passionate couple I have photographed! I loved the emotion they showed and all the kisses that were exchanged between the two all day long! Ashley and Brian live in DC but will soon move to Charleston! What lucky people they are! Ashley’s mother, during her toast, said that Ashley is the kind of girl who “lights up the room when she enters.” I couldn’t agree with her more. Brian is a kind hearted guy who adores his new wife Ashley. Their wedding was filled with navy accents and I loved the runners on the tables. Katie, of, Burlap Elephant, planned every little detail for a smooth, fabulous event. A favorite detail of mine, was the flask that Brian and his friends started to engrave when they get married and lose their bachelorhood. The Creek Club at I’on is one of most beautiful places for a wedding: on the water with the stunning sunset. Ashley and Brian had mentioned to me that they just wanted their reception to be a big fun party, and that it was!!! Lots of great dancing and happy times! Nautical touches and navy blue colors were clues that after the big dance party our couple would be whisked away on a boat!

Thank you Ashley and Brian for having me photograph your wedding! I hope to see you soon in Charleston!!!

Mary Simms & Alex | Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation Wedding

I seem to always start my blogs off with, “Oh where do I start?” Maybe it’s because blogging is the last part of what I do after the wedding is shot and the editing is done. I always try to tell a story with each wedding blog post and give insights into the beautiful feelings of the families and scenery of the wedding.

Mary Simms and Alex exchanged wedding vows at the beautiful Cotton Dock at Boone Hall Plantation (which by the way is the most sought after venue now because Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds were married here! I hear it is booking out into 2015!) Mary Simms and Alex were so great to work with through their engagement session, the bridal session and finally the wedding day. In this wedding there were many details documenting points in their lives. I was told almost all of them by Mary Simms and her mother, so my camera was ready to capture these details. I honestly couldn’t choose from all the wonderful pictures of moments, and that is why there are so many! To most, they will not seem significant, but to Mary Simms & Alex and their families, they will. A moment frozen in time, forever, a hard copy to remember it by in years to come: excavating a bottle of bourbon and toasting, greeting guests with a mileage sign post to their favorite places to name a few! Exuberance and joy was all around as the bride, Mother, and bridesmaids dressed and admired the hand sewn handkerchiefs, the jeweled garter and meaningful rings. The love that was shown between the father and daughter dance melts me, and always will, as it reminds me of my daddy.

One of the most touching details that was shared with me was from her mother Julia. Mary Simms was adopted by her parents when she was two days old. She was delivered in a pickup truck on Sunday morning, March 19th. The “Sweet Pea” truck was the backdrop for the Photo Booth and at the end of the evening provided the ”going away” transportation. Two journeys, one as a baby, now as a couple beginning their life together.

Thank you Mary Simms & Alex for being such a wonderful couple to work with. I loved being with you on this important, happy day.

Laura and Tyler will be getting married this May in Charleston at the Thomas Bennett House. I can’t wait to see this precious couple again! They are both attorneys and had me laughing the whole time, especially Mr. Tyler. I would worry if guys “wanted” to do engagement pictures. Usually the groom does it to appease his lovely bride. (Pretty) Laura and I were just cracking up at Tyler and his expressions which made for some fantastic pictures. You both look so happy and I can’t wait to photograph your wedding.

I love this couple, Rebecca and I were introduced by a mutual friend of ours (Weezie) and from there we totally hit it off as friends. I was absolutely giddy when she called me one day to ask if I would like to do her maternity pics. I said without a second of hesitation, “YES!”

This future baby is so blessed to have Rebecca and Aryn as parents. Rebecca is a bubbly, charming, and a sweet girl…her laugh makes you warm and it’s hard not to laugh along with her. Can you say a beautiful pregnant woman?! Aryn is a kind and gentle soul, and such a great sport. Thank you guys for allowing me in on such a special time in your loves!

Top Ten Reasons to Schedule a Bridal Portrait

Today I’d like to write a little bit on why I think every bride should have a bridal portrait done! In the south, bridal portraits are more popular than previously. When I was married in 2010, a bridal portrait was a must in my book. Some of the reasons I wanted one, are in my “Top Ten Reasons to Schedule a Bridal Portrait.” During my own session, I had an absolute ball!!! It is such a fun experience with your photographer. I am happy to say this year I have had two brides, who originally didn’t purchase a bridal portrait, come back and add it to their wedding package. I love that!!

So in my opinion, here are the Top Ten Reasons to Schedule a Bridal Portrait:

Reason # 10 -Take advantage of how beautiful you will look at this time in your life.

Reason # 9 – It is a trial run for your stylist(s)

Reason # 8 – You can get comfortable in your dress

Reason # 7 – You will always have these beautiful pictures that you may not be relaxed for on your wedding day.

Reason #6 -As wallets, the bridal portrait makes a personal gifts for your close family members; they aren’t too big to display, and look fantastic on a side table.

Reason # 5 – Newspaper announcement picture is a must

Reason # 4 – Test your bouquet out with your florist! More times than not, brides end up not liking this trial run bouquet and this session gives the bride a chance to discuss the changes with the florist before the big day!

Reason # 3 – Time management for the wedding day – just how long does it really take to be ready?

Reason # 2 – A day or several hours of pampering, primping and posing just for you!

And the #1 reason for scheduling a wedding portrait - It provides you time to get comfortable with me, your photographer, and the camera, and of course LAUGH a lot and have FUN!

Our baby boy has arrived!! {Miller Allen King}

I can’t believe it, well actually yes i can, but i haven’t even been on my blog for a month! It’s amazing how much times flies when you have a newborn to look after! The days seem long but the weeks fly by!

We welcomed our little one 3 1/2 weeks early, and boy was I glad I had most of my weddings and photography wrapped up! I had a feeling he was going to be early, and so my instincts told me I better get these things done and not take anymore shoots in November or December! Thank goodness!

Miller Allen King arrived November 18th, 2012 @ 12:12pm. He was 6 pounds and 15 ounces and 20 inches long. Just imagine what he would have been full term, yikes!

Miller is the biggest Christmas present we have ever gotten! He is such a good baby. He loves his hands and can’t keep them still. He loves to get his arms out of his swaddles, which makes for long nights when he wakes himself up. Everyday there is something new.

Brennen, Miller and I wish you all a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you in 2013!

Coley & Evan’s Wedding | The DeBordieu Club | Georgetown, SC

For my last wedding shoot of 2013 (only because I was 8 months pregnant!) I was fortunate to photograph Coley and Evan. They are the cutest couple! Both graduates of College of Charleston, they were married at the DeBordieu Club in Georgetown, SC. There were so many things I loved about their wedding. The details were very special. The “getaway” car, a ’73 Buick, was the same car driven by Coley’s father on the very first date with her mother! The bride’s bouquet was wrapped with fabric from Coley’s grandmother’s dress she had planned to wear to the wedding. The beautiful pearl bracelets given to both the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom from Coley, to match hers, were all designed by Dee Ruel. Their “First Look” took place at the Sitton Beach house in Litchfield, where Evan proposed to Coley. As you will see from the pictures, the love between Coley and Evan is evident. I also must give the best band of the year award to “Az-Izz” from Atlanta! They were so FUN and entertaining and a band I would hire in a skinny minute. Alexandra with “I Do”, did an AMAZING job with the wedding planning and details, she was a pleasure to work with and helped our day as photographers tremendously! Please enjoy the beautiful scenery and the fun dance party, and of course the beautiful couple, Coley and Evan. Thank you Coley and Evan, you two are the best! A special thanks to Ms. Lucy for helping my very pregnant self, as my second shooter!
