Paintings about fragments of Information and some watercolor fun too!

2015-04-24T13:01:00.000-07:00

Here are some new paintings I have recently finished, they are about "fragments of information" which are all the small worlds of life like the bottom of the forest floor and microscopic information such as cells/dna/microbes/etc. I gave myself the challenge of not depending too heavily on color for these. I have an album on facebook with all of my new paintings or you can check out Saatchi Art to see more.

I have also been playing with watercolor I love the transparencies and the patterns that happen, I have a bunch listed on etsy.

Bits of Paper and Bits on Paper

2014-02-24T15:46:00.000-08:00

These are my recent explorations of the small bits of information that make-up our lives. These are small marks in a very horizontal format to represent the passing of time or maybe just change between a start and finish.

Playing With Prints

2014-02-05T14:18:00.001-08:00

I love ink on paper but don't always have the patience to make plates. So I have been inking paper shapes and running those through the press, had some really nice results.

....More Bits

2014-01-08T15:17:00.000-08:00

This is another that will be in the show at Guardino Gallery come see it in person 1/30-2/25 if your in Portland, Oregon.

Bits, Bits, Bits

2014-01-01T15:14:00.000-08:00

Here's one from my "informational bits" series that will be in a show in Portland at the Guardino Gallery Jan. 30 - Feb. 25

Busy Bee

2013-12-25T15:06:00.000-08:00

This one might be done or very close, I have gone around and around with it. I was trying to simplify it but decided it just wanted to be busy, so here is a busy little painting.

MEGAAAAAAA - CANVAS

2013-12-18T14:59:00.000-08:00

I stretched the largest canvas I have ever stretched, 5'x6' — MEGA CANVAS is taking over the studio, it is totally in the way. I would love to work bigger but not doing it again until I get a larger studio space.

Here is where MEGA CANVAS is now, still working on it, have to resolve the right side, pretty happy with some of the textures I got from sanding.

2013-12-11T14:42:00.003-08:00

I think I finished this today, another with "informational bits." I was trying not to rely on color for this one, I like the line qualities and layering in it.

New Things in the Store

2013-09-12T16:20:00.000-07:00

Kind of fun attaching things onto these blocks, painting, collage. I like them grouped together, now at the store.

My Painting in a Beautiful Portland Penthouse!

2013-09-05T16:14:00.000-07:00

One of my paintings was placed by Heidi McBride into an amazing Portland Oregon penthouse. It is featured in an amazing magazine called Luxe, page 194 of the Northwest issue.

New Work: Layers, Icons, Fun

2013-08-29T15:57:00.005-07:00

More Icons and Experiments

2013-08-15T10:30:00.000-07:00

Still working with the cellular-DNA-Icons, putting black paint down first, then cream, then scratching and scraping-off cream.

Experimentation

2013-08-08T10:00:00.000-07:00

Just playing around with materials and techniques lately. I think it opens up new ideas and experimentation is a huge part of being an artist for me, doing the same thing over and over would drive me nutty. Only downfall is that I think it would be easier to sell things more consistently if everything was basically a big series instead of many different series of work.

Inspired Bloggers

2013-08-01T14:07:00.000-07:00

Lisa Congdon does an amazing amount of stuff, an artist, illustrator, author, business woman, I'll say it again amazing! She has basically inspired me to get my blogging act together, my excuse was that I am always too busy but she does way more stuff than I do and she can do it - thanks Lisa for the inspiration! Here's Lisa's blog.

Now miss Janice La Verne Baker is someone who I actually get to see in person as well as follow her work (which I LOVE!) on her blog. Janice is an amazing artist, I love her color, figures and layers, especially the layers, drool, drool. Thanks you Janice for letting us see what you are up to, check it out here.

Cells, Icons and Bits

2013-07-28T16:52:00.000-07:00

I have been playing around with these icon like shapes. The idea originally came from thinking about DNA, cells, little bits of information and letting my design aesthetic creep-in a little more lately.

Design influencing my paintings lately

2013-06-29T16:55:00.000-07:00

As soon as I posted I was going to work on the blog more regularly my computer's logic board went out. Anyway thought I would share what I am working on lately – icons representing DNA or cells in my paintings. Not sure how long this will go on but enjoy acknowledging my design aesthetic a bit.

Really gonna try this time

2013-06-18T16:21:00.002-07:00

So I think I've said it before but this time I am really gonna try to keep up on the blog. Lisa Condon has inspired me (more on her later) and some people have not heard the news that one of my paintings is on the Mad Men set this season! (mine is the orange/black one).

My Paintings Featured in West Elm Catalog and Interview on West Elm Blog!

Months ago I sent some paintings to New York for the photoshoot, they found my paintings on Etsy. Read the interview on the West Elm Blog. (notice anything funny about the photo?)

Currently in the Studio

2012-05-24T11:22:00.000-07:00

Just finished this one (oil). I am working on adding patterns in the layers.

I am playing with acrylic in order to add collage to my paintings, a challenge since I am used to oil.

in progress...

OpusVII's Last Show and I'm it!

2012-03-01T17:38:00.004-08:00

Yes it is sad but true OpusVII is closing in about a month but I will be having the last show there starting 3/2/12, I'll be there at starting until 5:30. The show is called "Structure" abstractions of factories, barns, blueprints and other things that are floating around in my head.

Phytoplankton Inspires Art

2012-02-21T08:33:00.001-08:00

I am so excited about being one of the artists invited by the Arts Center in Corvallis to do a work of art based on Angelicque White's research on phytoplankton. All the pieces will be shown during the da Vinci Days. Angelicque is an assistant professor at OSU and takes amazing photos of the even more amazing microscopic plants and critters in our oceans. I'll post what I come-up with as it gets done...

New Work Inspired by Architecture

2012-02-17T08:12:00.000-08:00

Architecturally inspired paintings by Jenny Gray in the new "Structure" series.

These new paintings are abstractions of the barns, factories and mills I encounter in rural Oregon. I am fascinated by the scale and geometry of the buildings in the open landscape. The picture plane is often flattened to focus on the angles and shapes. This series has an emphasis on line, and as in past work I continue to explore color, texture and composition. I will be having a show of this new work at OpusVII starting March 2nd 2012.

Another Year Blogging

2012-02-02T16:17:00.000-08:00

My New Years resolution was to make my work a little more visible, with this in mind maybe I'll start keeping this blog up to date. I have updated my website with new work too.
