Less than 48 hours until Back from the Brink opens in Seattle!

The rehearsal schedule has ramped up over the past two weeks and the show is looking fantastic. It's hard to believe that there's only one more rehearsal before the day of the performance. We're in the polishing phase now, and it's great to see the unique perspective each of the dancers has brought to our story. All of us are excited to be bringing this exceptional work to life again.

Those of you who have followed us since 2003 know of our passion for dance. With this show, Jerboa Dance is proud to say we have moved into new territory. This full-length production showcases just how far we have evolved as a company. The dancers have given much of their inner selves to this show, and cannot wait to share it with you.

We are excited about the opportunity to present Back from the Brink at ACT's prestigious Falls Theatre. It was a pleasure to see this beautiful stage in action for Seattle Dance Project's most recent show, and we are looking forward to using the space to bring Back from the Brink to life again.

A big thank you to everyone who attended and/or contributed to our fundraiser to help make it such a success. The preview performances went spectacularly, giving the dancers a chance to perform together, and we were able to raise a good amount of money for the show.

If you haven't already, check out Jesus Chapa-Malacara's photographs of Jerboa Dance on display at Poco Wine Room in Capitol Hill. Thank you for everyone who made this possible (Jesus, Clayton, Peter, and Lesley. We are grateful for your help.)

Don't forget Jerboa Dance's next Seattle event!

Wednesday at 7pm is our fundraiser and preview event at Hengst Studio. There will be a silent auction featuring art, jewelry, dance lessons, gourmet food, massage, pet sitting and much more. Wine will served while guests are treated to the musical stylings of DJ Mars Saxman. In addition, we will perform a short live excerpt of highlights from Back From the Brink. The auction will be running all evening, but the preview will be presented at 8 and 9:30, so be sure to come by! Tickets for Back from the Brink in Seattle will be available for purchase during the fundraiser, but are also on sale at the ACT Theare box office and online.

In addition, starting Thursday, stop by Poco Wine Room on Capitol Hill where photography from the New York City performance will be hanging for the next month.

It's been busy at Jerboa Dance this holiday season with rehearsals underway in both Seattle and New York for our upcoming Seattle production.

Performances

Jerboa Dance is returning to its Seattle roots with a restaging of its New York City production, Back From the Brink, on Valentine's Day weekend. This acrobatic, energetic modern dance ballet takes audiences on a gripping journey into the human psyche. Conceived around the classic stages of grief, Act I begins after a traumatic event leads the dancers to reflect on their lives. Act II moves into the discovery of how to push forward, build new relationships, find community, and hope. Join us for this special showing including half of the original New York City cast.

Tickets are $25.00 in advance ($30.00 at the door) with $20 student tickets and are available at the ACT Theatre box office. In addition, a wine and dessert reception will be held on stage with the cast immediately following the performance. Reception cost will be $10 per person.

Donations

In our current times, the arts have even less money than usual. It is always difficult to pay dancers what they are worth. Most companies in Seattle pay only a couple hundred dollars for all the hours of rehearsal and the performances, which is not even enough to cover the training a dancer needs and their travel expenses to their rehearsals. Your kind donation would be used for those talented dancers' salaries. Alternatively, Jerboa Dance is also looking for donations of goods and/or services for the January 14th Silent Auction. Everything from wine to time shares are welcome. If you are planning for some end of the year donations, please keep Jerboa Dance in mind (we are a Seattle-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit).

Our New York premier, Back from the Brink, opens tonight and runs through Saturday night. The show is so close! We have found an amazing lighting designer who is excited to be working with us. The show is finished and just about ready to open. The costumes we designed for this show are done and we have a photo shoot going on today. We have been having very productive rehearsals and are thrilled that the show is turning out so well. Jerboa Dance September Newsletter

Hello friends,

Jerboa Dance is busy preparing for our exciting upcoming performances in NYC. We had a closed audition at the end of August and have found the 8 dancers to be in the show: Elizabeth Hendrix, Christina Johnson, Adam Pellegrine, Noa Sagie, Hanna-Lee Sakakibara, Julie Smith, Eric Vlach, and Jaime Waliczek. They are all extremely talented performers and Jerboa is lucky to be working with each of them. Rehearsals are underway and the show is already looking great. The biggest obstacle thus far has been that rehearsal space is at a premium in NYC so it's not easy to find something affordable.

Our first New York performance is coming up fast:
??? DUMBO festival on Saturday September 29th at 6pm
??? John Ryan Theater - 25 Jay Street, Brooklyn

And don't forget our first full-length show in New York, "Back from the Brink," is November 15th - 17th at the Hudson Guild Theater. I hope to see you all there.

Hello friends of Jerboa Dance,

It is turning out to be an exciting year for Jerboa. So exciting that it is necessary to send out our very first newsletter.

You probably know at least one of the members of this year's board of directors: Jaime Waliczek - president, Christina Johnson - vice president/treasurer, and Katie Sawicki - secretary. Also this year Jerboa Dance was officially approved as a federal 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. This allows any contributor to claim the amount as a tax deduction, as well as allowing Jerboa Dance to receive matching contributions from some corporations.

We have been setting up a great fall season this year in New York. This will be the first time, since Christina's move to New York after the production of Asa Nisi Masa in 2004, that Jerboa Dance founders Jaime and Christina will be producing together. Included in 2007's fall schedule so far:

DUMBO Dance Festival @ White Wave - September 28-30. "Outside Yourself," which you may have seen in the 2006 show in Seattle, was selected to be part of the 11th annual art under the bridge festival.
Works in Progress @ Dance New Amsterdam - October 20. This will showcase a new duet and be a chance to get audience feedback.
As yet untitled Jerboa Dance show @ Hudson Guild Theater - November 15-17. Jerboa Dance's New York premier will be the first show with a cohesive concept throughout the work. An audition will be held in New York to select the 8 dancers that will be used to bring the ideas to life.
