On the way to Tiberius for a Shabbat at Archim, Memories of David Yshay Orbach ז"ל

I took this picture while I was the passenger in the car when David Yshay Orbach ז"ל I went for a Shabbat of the supporters of Archim,

I had thought that we could go out on the boardwalk during the Shabbat and enjoy Tiberius. I was wrong.

The hotel Baali has a VIEW of the lake, but it is far up on the mountain, and it would be a hard walk, both up and down. So when we finally got to the place, after making many wrong turns, we had to stay in the hotel for the whole Shabbat, and not take any walks like I had planned.

As it was the hotel was ok, the beds were comfortable and the food was great. The talks were about Torah subjects, the Mechitza right down the middle, so I could hear and see what was going on if I sat next to the Mechitza.

We got our own table, so we could speak together then.

Nice Puzzle to give away Jerusalem

Do you remember doing lots of puzzles when you were a kid? I did! So now it is your turn. What better way to spend the time indoors than to do a puzzle. Here is one that is finished, but as you can see a few pieces at the corner got lost. This makes it even more challenging! I am giving this away for free, also I don't have the box, but I will put it in a box for you.

Getting Ready for Spring at Tamnoon, Cheap!

I hope that you have been enjoying this blog, but now we are going to change the focus a bit and feature businesses in Jerusalem, and other places that you can find great deals. I do not get paid by the stores to shop there so this is my honest opinion about each place.

Today I went to Tamnoon, Here is the bag as I got home. I bought three things, a black jersey shirt, a gray shiny skirt and 3 pairs of socks all for Drum roll Please!!!!!

30 NIS!

Even Ramona can't believe the prices! This is at the store on Kanfei Nesharim in Givat Shaul! The shirt runs big so I got a size 1, and the skirt runs small so I got the small. Usually I fit the Medium or Large sizes in this store.

75 or So, Run, Walk, Take the 75 or 74 Egged bus from the Central Bus Station in Jerusalem and gobble up these Spring Fashions at rock bottom prices.

Rainbow over Jerusalem!

It was taken using a Nokia (non-smartphone, those were the days!)

Today is my birthday and so this is my present to you, to enjoy this beautiful Rainbow! Taken out my living room window overlooking Ramot and the valley below.

404 Not Found- building on Yafo Street, Jerusalem

I walk past this building many times a month, so I snapped this picture the last time. This area has been slate for Urban Renewal for about 10 years, but this building is still standing. I think that it was an apartment building, it just stands empty now.

Sooner or later it will be torn down, and a new modern building with trendy shops will take its place.

Maybe we should remember the past?

Naww, it doesn't pay any property tax, Down it will come.

Waiting for the Rain in Jerusalem

I walked in Nachlat Shiva a few weeks ago and there are the umbrellas waiting to catch the rain. Or if it starts to rain, you can try to jump up and catch one for yourself!

Enjoy listening to a song that I wrote and produced using the rain on my roof as a background. (It is supposed to rain today so I want to get into the mood!)

Museums and places to go in the Old City Jerusalem

Take a walk in the Cardo in the Old City of Jerusalem, best right now during the very hot Spring time, today is already 30 degrees Celcius! The air is clear and cool and now there are shops just like in olden days.

This is under the Yeshivat HaKotel, and you can see the remains of the last fight between the Romans and the Jewish Patriots from over 2000 years ago.

Since we are talking about the last fight for Jerusalem, this museum is about the last fight in 1948 for the Old City of Jerusalem http://israelattractions.baruchhaba.com/place/last-battle-for-the-old-city-museum/

Definetly worth the visit.

Community English library - In the footsteps of Benjamin Franklin

I have been reading the biography of Benjamin Franklin, and I thought it would be a good idea to have a Community English library.

Each person would list 10-15 books that he or she would be willing to lend out.
Every person in the library lists their books.
When someone wants to borrow a book, then they would contact the person, go there and borrow the book. Then return it to where it came from. People can put books in any language on their list. Mark your books with your name and contact details.

Put your list on the comments section of this post.
If this ends up to be a big concern, then I will open a website and each person can get a page to list their books.

What do you think? I think it is a great idea and a better alternative to buying books and trying to sell them back.

If people want, they can also use this system for school books.

I don't usually post pictures of churches on this blog, but I have seen this from afar many times. When you are driving to the Hadassah Ein Kerem hospital, this view keeps popping up so you might get distracted by the view. You might wonder about the golden dome church and why it is up there?

If you want to go to visit, remember that visitors are not allowed inside the church, but the view and the exterior might be enough to justify the trip.

Since you have to go into the Hadassah Hosiptal complex, you will have to pay the parking fee for the hospital, so don't be surprised.

On the way through Jerusalem, I happened to look up and I just had to take this picture! The Moon lights up the night, in consolation for making itself smaller, on the 4th day of Creation.

A view of Herodian!

If you look carefully at this picture, I have made it extra large,. . . you can see an interesting flat top mountain. This is the archaeological site of Herodian. Now we know that it was the burial place of King Herod, and he built this mountain. I was there a long time ago before they did the digging. A had a friend who had a cousin who had the keys to the site and we went inside the tunnels underneath . There we found some remains of the Bar Kochva revolt, no we didn't move anything, really. And then we went up into the mountain, saw the wonderful rooms that Herod built.

Two years ago, there was an exhibit at the Israel Museum showing everything that my friend and I saw 20 years ago! I said to my family, yup, this is what it looks like, when they showed the videos of the place before the digging began.

So today, when I was dropping my son off at Yeshiva, I was driving along and this view popped up. I dropped him off and then on the way back, I stopped the car and popped this picture. I think that on a day right after it rains it might be clearer. I'll try.

So, a nice way to start the day,

I woke up to this beautiful site. Underneath there is a highway. We thought that the building of the highway would disrupt the phenomenon, but as you can see, we can still enjoy beautiful views!

Jerusalem on Fire! The day after Lag B'Omer

Seriously folks, be careful with your combustables on a hot day like today. Just came home and saw this out my window. Called it in to 102 the Fire Department, they took a long time to answer the phone by the way, and they said that they already knew about it.

This is what the fire looked like at 12;00pm. Now it is 5:41pm and it is still out of control! I heard planes and helicopters flying over trying to get a handle on it. If they would sent only one plane when I had called it in there wouldn't be this problem

One of the fires is being blamed on Lag B'Omer, maybe it is true, but there needs to be more fire education here in Israel.

When I was a child in Los Angeles, we had to have fire drills a few times a year, and a Fire Marshal came to our classes and taught us what to do when there is a fire. I was elected Fire Marshal of my 4th grade class and I was expert at stomping on lit cigarettes.

This served me well when I was teaching my first year in the classroom, as during a test someone slipped a smoke bomb under the door. causing untold uproar in the class. I stepped on it.. Why did they schedule a test for April 1st, anyway??

Fires are serious, many people have been evaucated from their homes this afternoon. Learn the fire rules and before you leave a fire, put it out with sand or water!
