More Diva Pictures - and How to Video for headpiece

I created a Video about how I made the Diva Headpiece.

I also found more pictures of me in the costume!

Selling the Diva Costume

2013-06-26T07:23:00.004-05:00

After having a baby in 2011 and now that I am pregnant with my second child (Due 12/25/2013) -- I have come to accept I will not be able to wear my Diva Costume again.

I am going to sell it.

It's been hanging in my closet for years and should really be "rocked" by someone at a con.

I am 5 feet 6 inches tall and wore three inch platform shoes under the costume.

I was between size 14 and 16 when I made this - and made it to form fit me in a corset.
A skilled seamstress should be able to alter it.

The Fabric is Joann Fabric's Casa Collection Glitter Satin in CORNFLOWER.

On sale for 5.99 a yard online right now... I bought it for 9.99 a yard and used... a lot.

Ooo! I see they have a "Stretch Satin" now too that might give the more rubbery skin-tight look that the costume needs! I wish I had time to sew!

Heck you can buy the costume and use it as a template to make more like it -- or for parts.

I don't even have a sewing machine any more. :(

Thanks!

Jess

Cheetara Boot update

2011-06-03T13:28:00.000-05:00

The awesome boot I used for my Cheetara Costume was an Orange version of the Minnetonka Women's 1422 Front Lace Knee-High Boot

It turns out that dyeing suede is WAY easier then I would have ever guessed!

My Orange version of these boots were damaged by... my cat taking revenge...so I was feeling really upset!

I was so sad. I loved my Boots and finding them in orange was imposible!

But I wanted to get a new pair anyway so I got the pair above and used a orange dye to get the result I never thought possible!

Now I am thinking about getting a pair of these boot and doing the same treatment to the lowers.

Because really they are Orange with a YELLOW Cuff. I hope that these boots are light enought that the yellow works on the top... it will be an okay experiment, they are like $30 so it isn;t like the gamble on the $60 Minnietonkas

I Love We Love Colors(tm)!!!!

2009-10-16T10:27:00.000-05:00

Holy Cow! I am so PUMPED!!!

As you know, Halloween is my FAVORITE Holiday. I take my costumes very seriously and do my best to ROCK them. ;)

This Year I am going as The Diva Plavalaguna from the 5th Element. I debuted this costume at ACen, and might rock it at Madison's "Geek Kon"... we will see. ;)

There is also a company wide costume contest at my work, and I really hope I win it.... but we will see. ;)

Anyway! To the title of this post.

There is a great website called "We Love Colors" that has OVER 50 colors of tights, leotards, gloves, socks, etc... that make my costumes the best!!! The colors match and ROCK!! Totally worth checking out. :)

I used their products as the base of my Cheetara Costume:

Click here to see the details on how to make this costume.

They also SAVED MY BUTT when it came to my with my Diva costume!!!

I contacted all the bridal stores in my state, then online who boasted about thier glove colors.

NO one could match gloves to the shade of blue of my costume. I did not want to have my HANDS painted blue! Then I suddenly remembered: We Love Colors!

I ordered the colors that looked closest, and the arrived so fast!!! And one pair was a PERFECT MATCH!!!!!!!

Like The Cheetara costume, I glued fake nails to gloves for my hands. It was SOOOOOOoo wonderful!

Anyway, I was contacted by a staff memeber from We Love Colors about how cool my costumes are that use their products and was informed about a Costume Contest they are doing!

I totally plan to submit my Cheetara costume! :-D It is internet voting, so once I know where the link is, I will post that.

YEA! IT is also most Hlloween!

I am not sure if you have your costume picked out yet, but maybe you will get inspired by all the colors and styles We Love Colors they have to offer!

Things left to do:

Get matching gloves and attach nails so I don't need to paint my hands blue!
The "belt"
The headdress
and figure out how I will attach the "slug" thing on the back.

Then it's ready!

I hope to wear this costume on Saturday at ACen!!!!!

Here are some reference pictures from the movie, and how the costume looks now.

Scariest Costume 2008

2008-11-03T09:58:00.000-06:00

I won for having the scariest costume this year!!! Yea!

And I have already picked out what I am doing for my next costume/COSPLAY!!!

Plavalaguna!!!

Before you go, "Who?" She is the "The Diva" from the movie, "The 5th Element. "

Vampire - Halloween 2008

2008-10-29T08:22:00.000-05:00

I gave up on being a Pirate Vampire, and I am just going for a traditional "sexy vampire."

There is a costume contest at work and the categories are:
Scariest, Best, Most Original, Funniest, and Silliest.

I am going for "scariest" or "best."
A vampire is hardly "original", and funny and silly are too vague and over-lap to me.

My Plan for Halloween 2008

2008-10-16T19:55:00.000-05:00

This year I plan to go as a Vampire-Pirate.

Now what could be more awesome than that!? ;)

I have a great Pirate costume, and also some vampire teeth.

Two people in my office have excitedly told me they are going to be "Sally" from "Tim Burton's Night Mare Before Christmas." That might be awkward, luckily one will be in Texas on Halloween!

New Gauntlet!!

2008-10-12T14:09:00.000-05:00

As an added bonus, I did get crafty and make a nice new gauntlet to go with the Cheetara Costume for tomorrow's auction winner!

It is made out of craft felt and it has a Velcro closure.

I have everything in the box and ready to ship.

All I need now is the address of the winner!!

Here is how to make the complete Cheetara costume.

How to Make this Cheetara Costume

2008-10-10T09:36:00.005-05:00

I went to http://www.welovecolors.com/ and bought a woman's danceware - gold colored long sleeve unitard (currently $56.00) and removed the right sleeve. I also bought a orange tank leotard (currently $22.00) and put them together.

I then attached a large ThunderCats logo patch ($7) to the front.
I am not sure if this place still has them. BE SURE THAT IT IS AT LEAST 3" in diameter!

I carefully drew on the spots on a blonde wig with black permanent marker so the spots would not flake or run off. (About $20)

The paw's are $5 gloves with a $5 set of acrylic nails attached with super glue.

The white bangles were $2 each at "Clarie's".

Go to your local home improvement store and get a wooden "staff." (About $10)

I used waterproof liquid eye liner to put smudge/rain proof spots on my body. ($5)

I used the "lipstick" looking Maybelline Cover Stick Corrector Concealer in White for my face, and a tube of orange face paint painted on with a brush. ($4)

I made my original gauntlet out of orange Dixie cups and construction paper (middle image) But then made a new, and nicer gauntlet, out of craft felt.

I took one large sturdy piece of orange craft felt and cut it into shape. I then used ironed "no-sew adhesive to attach the Velcro closure and the red & yellow pieces. I then secured everything in place with a needle and thread.

To finish the costume off, you need a pair of orange knee high boots!!

5 Inch Heels for an SUPER Sexy Cheetara!!

3 inch heels for a sexy, yet practical Cheetara!

Or if you want a style that is "TRUE TO THE CARTOON" check out the following!

This pair is the PERFECT Cheetara Sytle, but you will need to have the lower part dyed Orange. Luckily Suede is VERY EASY to dye! If you are not comfortable dying them orange yourself, there are lots of shoe places that are willing to do the dirty work for you! :)

Again here is another cute "True Cheetara" boot, but again it is not offered in ORANGE. You would need to dye them.

Lastly I share the pair I wore with my cosumte!!! They are Orange Suede moccasins from Minnetonka!

While they still make this STYLE, it is no longer offered in ORANGE. Again you would have to buy the light tan leather boots and dye them orange to achive the look:

I hope this helps!!!

ThunderCats HO!!!!!!

Some Lucky Woman will be able to buy a costume of the Sexiest 80's Cartoon Character this Halloween!

The auction will include:

Woman's Size 8-10 Cheetara Body Suit with 4" authentic ThunderCats Logo
This Cheetah spotted wig
Two White Bangle Bracelets
"Paw Gloves" (White gloves with claws attached)

The following items were part of my original costume, but will NOT be included in the auction:

Face/Body Paint

Staff Weapon - It is hard to ship, and you can find one at any "Home Depot."

The Gauntlet - I made mine out of Dixie cups and construction paper with a Velcro closure. It's pretty battered and "chintzy" compared to the rest of the the costume. I might get crafty to make a nice gauntlet to go with the costume though.

NOTE:I DID MAKE A NEW GAUNTLET!!!

Orange Knee-High Boots - I love my orange boots! So the new Cheetara will need to pick a new pair she likes best!!

5 Inch Heels for an SUPER Sexy Cheetara!!

3 inch heels for a sexy, yet practical Cheetara!

Orange Suede moccasins for an Authentic Cheetara look.

This is the pair I wore with the costume, but they might be out of stock by now!!

Photomanipulation Instead of Costumes

2008-03-25T16:08:00.000-05:00

Instead of dressing up as the Wizard of Oz, I took a head shot of everyone and did a photomanipulation instead!

I think our team picture will be the COOLEST one on display!

More Dress up, This time for work!

2008-03-07T17:01:00.000-06:00

At work we need to take a "fun and creative" team photo. It was decided that our team shall dress up as "The Wizard of Oz." Everyone got their role... but there is still a debate whether I am a "good witch" or a "bad witch."
I'll be either. ;)

Halloween 2006 Wonder Woman and Evey

2006-10-26T14:25:00.000-05:00

This year I went as Evey from "V for Vendetta."

Unfortunately most people thought I was a Guantanamo detainee or a Buddhist monk. Oh well.

I was going to wear a bald cap, but it was ruined by the make-up they said would work!!! ARGH! So here I am late for work a ruined costume, and glue all over my face and neck!

I then bit the bullet and stopped into one of those "fast clips" kind of places and had her shave my head.

4 days later.... A woman from PEOPLE MAGAZINE contacts me to say they want to put me in their "HALF THEIR SIZE" issue.

I said that's wonderful... but I just shaved my head.

I heard her jaw hit the floor.

They decided that readers prefer women with hair... so yeah. No Go.

I missed my 15 minutes of fame because of a dysfunctional bald-cap.

I also wore my Wonder Woman Costume with a Wig.
