Who's Your Hero?

Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; (Titus 2:13)

A young brother in the Lord challenged me by an article he wrote on “heroes”. He asked the question to himself (in the note on Facebook): “Who is your hero?” Jordan (the young man’s name) said some things that really blew my mind as he pointed out all the human heroes he could think of in his life, none could stand with him in all things like the Lord Jesus Christ.

That same question I ask to myself and to you: WHO IS YOUR HERO? There’s a thing in Christendom we Christians and even non-Chris alike hold to; we love to see a human we can look to. Listen, let’s be real about it, there is at least one person that you hold dear to your heart. He may faithfully teach the Word of God, or says many things that you just absolutely agree with, and because of this you only listen to them. You only take what they say as truth and anyone who says anything against them (biblical or not), is shot down. I confess this sin of myself. Certain guys that have spoken truth in my life, I hold high regard in my heart, because they have been there for me. But is that how the Lord feels about it? Is He my Hero?

Bring forth the blind people that have eyes, and the deaf that have ears. Let all the nations be gathered together, and let the people be assembled: who among them can declare this, and shew us former things? let them bring forth their witnesses, that they may be justified: or let them hear, and say, [It is] truth. Ye [are] my witnesses, saith the LORD, and my servant whom I have chosen: that ye may know and believe me, and understand that I [am] he: before me there was no God formed, neither shall there be after me. (Isaiah 43:8-10)

Now who in this text wants to be believed? The Lord. Who wants to be the object of our affection? The Lord Jesus Christ, God Almighty; our Great Hope should be our Hero!!! Many times looking at the messenger is what we do. We look at the messenger and other messengers as well and get confused. Why? We are not focused on our Hero. We are not looking at the One who is with the Christian. For the non-Christian, he looks not at Christ for salvation. Why, because we are focused on our earthly heroes. Some may say, “I have no heroes?” You’re lying; there is someone in your life that you’ve looked at and hold in high regard. I said this very thing, and each time the Lord has shown me where I have fallen. Here’s a working definition of what hero means:

1. a man of distinguished courage or ability, admired for his brave deeds and noble qualities.

2. a person who, in the opinion of others, has heroic qualities or has performed a heroic act and is regarded as a model or ideal: He was a local hero when he saved the drowning child.

Think about it for a minute now in Christendom. Is there anyone you have as a hero? Yes there is somewhere and the Lord says to get rid of them as you’re hero. Turn your worship to them off.

Thou shalt have no other gods before me. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness [of any thing] that [is] in heaven above, or that [is] in the earth beneath, or that [is] in the water under the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me; (Exodus 20:3-5)

How do you do that? Well, we take our focus off of the messengers and look to the one who sends the message! Look to the Sender, He’s your Hero, your Lord, and your Savior (Psalm 118:8-9).

God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by [his] Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; (Hebrews 1:1-2)

Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset [us], and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of [our] faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:1-2)

God now speaks through Jesus Christ. We have the scriptures to help us understand what Jesus Christ is saying (2 Timothy 3:16-17). No one else can do this. Am I saying God doesn’t send pastors? No, I am saying God sends them, but God should be the focus, not the pastor. This goes for you who have claimed certain men to be your internet pastor. No, no, the bible alone speaks to the things of Jesus Christ; focus on the Word of God, not the one sending the Word.

It is not wrong in listening to a pastor on the internet. There’s no sin in having favorites that you go to. But why are you listening to them? Who is your hero? Is it Jesus Christ or is it the pastor? You know, last night my wife was speaking to me about her desire to be more firm of what God says in the bible. She basically said she doesn’t want her beliefs to come from our pastor nor our church, but what Christ Jesus says in His Word. That’s the correct focus, that’s the Hero we should be looking to.

It’s sometimes difficult not to make a hero out of someone. This sinful country, which is full of hypocrisy and wickedness, needs some righteous men to stand up for the Lord Jesus Christ. There have been, and there will be until Christ Himself returns. But let’s not make man the truth, God is still on the throne. JESUS CHRIST IS LORD, He is our hero. AMEN!!!!

Above this video post will be the rebuttal. I am posting this to show that we should not be surprised by the world's attempt to call themselves god. This particular MC, I had no idea said these types of things, it was not until Christ Jesus the Lord opened my eyes to see how much trash and filth I had let in my ears. Young people, cut these guys off, repent and turn to the Lord Jesus Christ.

GETTING REAL: IF I LOOK AT YOU, ARE YOU GOING TO BE MAD?

I hear sometimes people talk about there experiences when they have come into a church and some of the people judge them by the looks they gave them. The person may mention how they felt uncomfortable because of the way someone looked at them, and in fact have interpreted those looks to be dirty evil looks. Well, I am going to be on the other side this morning because we are not always right in our thinking. Sometimes we can accuse people of looking at us in the wrong way when really we are the ones interpreting the wrong thing.

Every way of a man [is] right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts. (Proverbs 21:2)

The first basis we can begin at is we are not right in all our thoughts. We think we are but we are not. When someone looks at us, we can come to understand that we don’t have the ability to know what a person is thinking. Yet, we at times draw many conclusions based on a look. We’ll say, “that person is staring at me (really we are uncomfortable with the stare which I understand)….he/she is checking me out etc etc”. Do you really know if that person is checking you out? NO. I was sitting in service this past Sunday when a older gentleman walked in service with a Mohawk. This guy looked to be about 60yrs old, and his Mohawk is what caught attention to my eyes. I stared at the guy. Why? He had a Mohawk and that is not normal to my eyes in the daily things I usually see. If it had been on a younger person, I probably wouldn’t have stared, but this caught my eyes. Now, what if the guy saw me looking at him and thought “this kid must got a problem with me, he’s judging me etc.” Well he would have been completely wrong. What I thought was, “wow this old guy has got a Mohawk and he came in with my friend, let me make sure I speak to him and show him some Christian love!”. My intentions were to love the man and he did not know that. The point I am making is you just cannot go off of an initial look all the time. Let the behavior play out, see what comes out of their mouth etc, then you’ll be able to discern a little bit better.

You may ask, but what about when someone walks by you and you speak but they don’t, that’s rude isn’t it? Your still not right all the time my friend. What if they had something on their mind? I have had people say to me, “didn’t you see me waving at you?” No, I didn’t because I was thinking about something or looking were your eyes thought that I was. In John 7:24 Jesus Christ is exhorting the Jews about their judgment on Him concerning Jesus healing someone on the Sabbath. The Greek rendering is opsis which means an external show:--appearance, countenance, face. Be careful not to quickly judge based on what you initially see, study intently, so that you have an understanding of what is taking place.

Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such an one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted. Bear ye one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. (Galatians 6:1-2)

If I see you come in the church, I am going to look at you. I am going to stare if there is something not normal to my eyes. But don’t think that I am judging you because quite frankly, I don’t know who you are. I want to see who is coming in and out, so I can give a person a call if I don’t see them. In fact if you’re overtaken in a fault, shouldn’t I approach you and help you as? Depending on the circumstances, I may have to look at you in order to do that. As an African American, I used to think when I walk in predominately white areas; white people were being racist by looking at me funny or staring at me. Not necessarily. Is it normal for them to see a black face around everyday? No, then that may be a reason as to why they are looking.

And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. (Mark 7:20-23)

Ah ha there it is, it says here evil eye! Yes it does, which in context is referring to a particular behavior right? What behaviors are evil where your eyes are involved? Jealously and envy are when looking at a person you do or don’t know. This is similar to what Christ addressed about with men when they look upon a woman with the evil eye. What makes it evil? The lust does, not the looking. I can look at a beautiful woman and see her revealing outfit she has on and not be lusting after her. It could be she’s wearing revealing clothing in this cold Maryland weather, and that is not smart thing to do. I could be thinking to offer her my coat so she can be warm. I could be looking at her and praying for her. Point is she doesn’t know I am thinking, and she would be wrong to say: “that brother looking at me wants me.” She doesn’t know that! See it! The way for her to know is if I walk up to her, grab her butt, say some trifling pick up line to her, etc, then that would be a good indication of what’s going on, you see.

Just think about this. When you jump to a conclusion when someone is staring at you judging you, think about someone else may wonder the same thing about you even though you know you were not doing so. Trust me, I understand completely that we shouldn’t stare at people, it makes them uncomfortable. I respect that. Also, not every look is one to make you feel uncomfortable, it may be one in love, one because the other person has never seen you before etc. The point is you don’t know always why a person is looking at you. Better yet, why do you look at them? Love you my dearly beloved.

And it came to pass, as she continued praying before the LORD, that Eli marked her mouth. Now Hannah, she spake in her heart; only her lips moved, but her voice was not heard: therefore Eli thought she had been drunken. And Eli said unto her, How long wilt thou be drunken? put away thy wine from thee. GETTING REAL: BLACK GOSPEL MOVIES DON’T DEFINE WHO GOD IS

Are you sickened by the movies that come out to represent the Lord according to black people? I am, and when I saw the original movie trailer above for Preacher’s Kid(there is a final trailer on YouTube as well), I was even more sickened. It’s annoying enough we already laugh at a man dressed as a woman; who quietly tries to expose Christianity to the world. He makes believe God is a joke by pointing guns at folks to making black Christian men look like chumps and Christian normality to be a bunch of singing and dancing but no real obedience to the bible. We do not need another movie to explain to America what Christianity looks like for the Afro-American Christian. The Scripture alone is enough to explain what biblical Christianity looks like. It says:

For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God. (John 3:17-21)

So is this new movie, Preachers kid going to finally explain to us who the Lord Jesus Christ is? From the clip alone, we are supposed to derive that God waits for us to come back because of the foolish decisions we make. This play is geared to make you laugh, shed a few tears, send a tingle up your spine, and finally expose the truth behind real Christianity from the black side of church! HOGWASH!!!!!

Preacher’s Kid maybe attempting to explain a watered down interpretation of Luke 15. In fact, watching this movie, some people may say they have found a new relationship with God now because of this movie. HOGWASH!!! Why so harsh Karsten? The scriptures are enough to teach us and bring us to repentance (2 Timothy 3:16-17), not some movie that gives a worldly representation of who Jesus Christ is. I know, I have not seen it and trust me I desire not to see it.

To understand the context of Luke 15, where Jesus Christ gives the Pharisees and scribes three parables to attest to them why the tax collectors and sinners drew near to Jesus Christ, look at verse 10.

Likewise, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth. (Luke 15:10)

Repentance is the key to understanding the context of Luke 15. REPENT in the Greek transliteration – metanoeō - to change one's mind for better, heartily to amend with abhorrence of one's past sins. F.F Bruce says: "Repentance (metanoia, 'change of mind') involves a turning with contrition from sin to God; the repentant sinner is in the proper condition to accept the divine forgiveness." (F. F. Bruce. The Acts of the Apostles [Greek Text Commentary], London: Tyndale, 1952, p. 97.)

Will you see this in Preacher’s Kid? NO. Why? Because the real message is to place the label of “okay” on the sinful or worldly lifestyles the so-called professing Christian have. Basically the movie may tell you, it is okay to be in sin, you make the decision to come back to God when you’re ready, or when you see things didn’t work out for you.

Now some of you may go and see this movie to come up with something to refute what I am saying here, but then you missed the point. You don’t have to go to a single movie to figure out what the Lord desires, or who the Lord Jesus Christ truly is. OPEN YOUR BIBLE, and let the Word of God lead you to true repentance. OPEN YOUR BIBLE and by the direction of the Holy Spirit, apply His Word to your life. STOP trusting in these stupid movies to tell you how to live the Christian life. STOP trusting these so-called Christian plays to make you laugh and feel good about the sin your in. So gently I say to you because I love you:

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. (Luke 13:5)

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; (Acts 3:19)

I have seen some foolishness in my time, but this surpasses all that I have seen so far. I can't laugh at this, I weep for the many who are trapped into things such things bring glory to the Lord Jesus Christ. Don't get me wrong I think praising God is awesome, shouting to the Lord is great, but this goes way out there. Again the scripture says:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit. Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. (Galatians 5:22-26)
