Ashley and Leonid live in New York, but opted for a taste of la bella vita for their destination wedding in Sicily. From their ceremony overlooking the Mediterranean to their garden reception, it was a day filled with love and happiness. To reflect the colors of the island, the couple chose blue details, and complemented these with gorgeous summery florals and touches of gold. The couple’s wedding planner, Michelle Jacobs of Elegante by Michelle J, shared all the details of their magical day with us.

Leo is from Russia and Ashley is Afro-Caribbean, so wherever they chose to marry, they knew some guests would have to travel. They love Italy and wanted somewhere with both a historic perspective and views of the sea. The walled city of Taormina on the beautiful Italian island of Sicily fit this brief perfectly!

Friends and family joined them from all over the world for a three-day celebration of their marriage. We started with a welcome event at a typically Sicilian (and renowned) arancini bar, followed by a rehearsal dinner the following evening at a local hotspot. The culmination of all this was, of course the wedding itself. This took place at a Villa Mon Repos, which offered the most spectacular views of the Taormina coastline and nature reserve, Isola Bella.

Ash wanted a bold color palette, which incorporated pops of blue. These were taken from the save the dates, and then followed through into the invitations. Based on her initial brief I put together a mood board and then full design brief which was issued to the florist and all other suppliers.

The seating plan was presented in the form of a collage of vases of flowers into which we propped the details of the table seating. It was a real highlight of the design scheme. Elements of Ash and Leo’s cultures were also incorporated, including jumping the broom at the end of the marriage ceremony.

Nicole and Stratton selected the luxurious Esperanza Resort for their vibrant destination wedding in Los Cabos, Mexico. The couple, who live in Texas with their son, SJ, and two dogs, Callie and Molly, knew that they wanted a destination wedding and chose Cabo for its picturesque backdrop and proximity to Houston. Esperanza offered an intimate setting, with dramatic ocean views and a private beach, making it the perfect spot for an elegant beachside celebration. With elegant details and a punchy palette of coral, blush and papaya, this was everything we love about a destination wedding in Los Cabos! We asked Nicole to share more about their special day with us.

We worked with Cabo Beach Weddings to plan our special day. Christina and her team were amazing to work with and helped us select every single detail, from our venue to décor and everything in between. The venue we selected for our wedding was Esperanza Resort. The resort is breathtaking and beyond anything we could have dreamed of. Our ceremony took place on the upper pool deck overlooking the beautiful Sea of Cortez. The ceremony was followed by a cocktail hour, dinner and reception, which was a short walk away at Aire + Terrace.

Our wedding day was everything we wished for and more! Over 50 family and friends were able to join us in Cabo for our special day. The venue and scenery provided the natural elements we were looking for; it was effortlessly beautiful. Emporio Arte Floral provided the flowers for the wedding and the flower arrangements, bouquet and boutonnieres were absolutely stunning. We wanted them to provide a pop of color in shades of coral, pink, and orange. Emporia Arte Floral also provided many of the tablescape elements, which came together with the floral arrangements so beautifully. Everything was perfect and provided an elegant and romantic backdrop for our event.

For musical entertainment, we selected three different groups. Cabo Strings provided the music for our ceremony and cocktail hour. From the moment I heard them for the first time, I knew I had to have them at our wedding. The music they played set the perfect, intimate mood for our vows and then transitioned our cocktail hour into a fun and energetic gathering. They played so many of our favorites; each song was hand-picked by the two of us. DJ Adan Mijares provided the background music during dinner and we were also able to pull off a big surprise during dinner with a trio of mariachi players joining our event and serenading our guests with traditional mariachi music. This was a huge surprise for my grandfather, as mariachi music is such a huge piece of our culture and heritage. DJ Adan Mijares then carried us long into the night with music that got everyone out on the dance floor. It was the best night of our lives!

To top everything off, we had the most amazing photographers to capture our wedding. When I first saw the work of Sara Richardson Photography, I was in awe at the detail and effortless beauty in their work. Sara and Ramon were wonderful to work with; they even found a way to get my stubborn husband on board with taking pictures! Sara and Ramon captured every single moment so perfectly and beautifully. Looking back at all of our pictures immediately takes me back to our beautiful wedding and I can’t help but feel so incredibly happy.
