What’s up New York Jets Fan Club of Tampa Bay??? How the heck is everyone?

I know I’ve gone dark and been M.I.A. for some time now but I’ve been crazy busy with work and life in general, ya know.

Anyway I figured better get off my ass and get to this ASAP as our beloved New York Jets take the field in just a few days. I’ve got A LOT to tell you about so get ready.  I’ll try to keep it as short and sweet as possible.

Week 1 Information

Opening Day Details

Opening Day, as always, will be at Peabody’s (in the Palms). We are expecting a huge crowd as is the norm for opening day.  Please arrive early or be prepared to stand.

Seating Reservations

Like last year we will have tables reserved for Fan Club Hall of Fame Members and other week-in and week-out regulars. Please respect these signs as it has been these long time loyal regulars that have helped us grow the club to the size it is now. These reserved seats are a thank you for all the time, dedication and money they have spent supporting the club over the last 11 years.

However this year, we will begin taking reservations for some of the other seats and tables in the house.  I’m not sure how long we will do this for or if it will just be for big games where we expect a big crowd. Ether way we are giving it a shot.  Half of the proceeds from reserved seats will go to the Marty Lyons Foundation (more about the MLF golf outing later in this email).

Here’s the seating chart for the main area of the room.  The green seats are the ones currently reserved for some of our members and the blue tables can be reserved at the prices listed below. Please understand that we have limited space and limited reservations so this will be on a first come / first served basis.  You will need to contact me directly to make reservation arrangements at 888-NY-JETS-1 (888-695-3871).

Annual Group Photo

Bring your Jets Green and your smile as once again, Fan Club Member and photographer extraordinaire Bobbee Broderick of B&B Photography will be bringing his equipment to take a huge group shot of everyone.  You DO NOT want to miss the opportunity to be in this years photo (right David Innocenti?).

Bring a Rookie

I would like to invite each of you to reach out to one or more friends that have not yet experienced a Jets game with the Fan Club and have them come to Peabody’s for the game.  We all know how much fun it is to be with fellow Jets fans and we love the Rookie’s too.  So if you can, reach out to someone and tell them to join you for the game. Pushing towards 800 members this year so let’s get some more rookies in the door every week.

50/50 Raffle

Mark was our first Raffle Winner ever.

We will again be running our 50/50 raffle and we’ll be giving away a bunch of Jets stuff at halftime every week.  Tickets are:

• $1 for 1 Ticket
• $3 for 5 Tickets
• $5 for 10 Tickets
• $10 for 25 Tickets
• $20 for 60 Tickets

Winner gets half the cash. Other prizes awarded as well based on ticket numbers drawn. Last year the opening day winner went home with over $400!!!

Raffle Item Donations

If you have ANY Jets related items that you’d like to contribute to the fan club’s raffle to be given away as a prize, please let me know and bring it with you.  It could be anything at all (maybe you got a duplicate of something as a gift? Maybe you got a shirt that doesn’t fit? If you can’t use it but you think some other fan might like it, please bring it).  One persons trash is another persons treasure right.  All donations are very much appreciated.

Volunteers Needed

I’m looking to put together an advisory board of 3-5 people (or more) who can take on some of the responsibility of the club both during the season and during the off-season. If you are in the Tampa Bay area and are interested in being a part of the growth of the fan club, please let me know.

We need to start planning for the season and for the Jets / Bucs game that will take place here in Tampa next season.  We plan on making this next Tailgate as epic as the last one.  Are you interested in helping us make that happen?

Here are some things I’m looking for help with:

• Coming up with some fresh ideas to make this season extra fun,
• Writing articles, reviews, opinions for the Club’s blog,
• Help updating the clubs website,
• Designing a Fan-Club/Peabody’s Club Members Shirt,
• Planning events, road-trips, fundraisers, and non-Sunday nights-out-on-the-town,
• Finding Club Sponsors around town to add value to Membership Card Holders or to advertise on the clubs site,
• “Owning” an idea and implementing it (like Maverick does with Fantasy Football or Secret Santa).
• In general, I’d like to build a team of people in the Tampa area willing to help the club continue to grow and be the place to be if you can’t be at the game. Not just on Sunday’s but throughout the rest of the year as well.

5th Annual Survivor Pool

Once again we will be running our annual Survivor Pool. The best part about a Survivor Pool is that you don’t really have to know too much about football stats or players to get involved, have some fun and maybe win a few bucks too. You simple pick a single team each week. If your team wins you move onto the next week  If they lose you are out. The catch is you CAN NOT pick the same team twice in the season. The last person left standing is the sole survivor and gets all the loot collected.

“The Season Pass” – New Peabody’s Drink Special

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but sadly the days of the All-You-Can-Drink special are over.  In it’s place are new drink specials and a new promotion called “The Season Pass”

Peabody’s will have regular specials for Sunday like $9.99 beer buckets, $4 drafts, $6 PBR pitchers, and $3 mimosas.

However, The Season Ticket package is a better deal. It gets you 1 free drink each week plus $1.25 Miller & Coors Light drafts for every weekly game day, select pricing on a bunch of drinks and 15% off food. It’s normally going to be $100 but they are offering anyone in the Fan Club a special price of $80 instead of $100.   They will also have a Daily Access Pass for $20 $12 that gets you all the perks but just for the day.

Please let me know if you are interested in purchasing a Season Pass from Peabody’s as the Marketing Manager will need to know your name, email and t-shirt sizes for anyone who signs up.

Marty Lyons Foundation 11th Annual John Brogle Golf Outing

Got an email from Club Member Rich Lyons (brother of Sack Exchange member and Jets great Marty Lyons regarding the annual John Brogle Golf Outing. Maverick and I went a few years ago and met Marty and former Jets Safety Ken Schroy as well as Wade Boggs.  It’s for a great cause (The Marty Lyons Foundation) and we love to be a supporter of the foundation all season long.

Here’s the details on the Golf outing.

First of all, many thanks to the golfers and sponsors that have already registered to participate in and support our 11^th Annual John Brogle Golf Outing to be held in Pinellas Country in Seminole at the Bardmoor Golf & Tennis Club on Monday, October 10^th.

This email is a reminder that we have less than a month to sign up golfers at a discounted pricing for foursomes and individuals.  Our foursome cost is $500, and our single golfer cost is $125.  We have our website set up to accommodate golfer registration.  Please visit our website at http://www.martylyonsfoundation.org/events/11th-annual-john-brogle-golf-outing/.  I have attached the golfer registration form for those who prefer paper.  Don’t forget to list handicaps … it will save me an additional email.  😉

Our outing will feature:

• Breakfast

We are planning both raffles and silent auction and we have some fabulous hole-in-one prizes:  one $10K in cash and three golfing getaways – Hawaii for two golfers; Las Vegas for two golfers, and Lajitas Golf Resort (Big Bend, Texas) for four golfers.  Unfortunately, airfare for the getaways is not included.

If you do not golf, please consider signing up to be a volunteer at the outing.  We will be setting up the club house on Sunday as we have a morning start on Columbus Day.

Hey Jets Fans,

Wanted to drop everyone a quick note to let you all know that WE WILL BE AT PEABODY’S tonight for the big game in Dallas against the Cowboys.  However, due to a scheduled party in the Palms tonight, we’re “going old-school” and back to our Peabody’s ROOTS.  So, we will be watching the game over by the Beta-Bar in the main Peabody’s area (walk into P’s and well be in the back to the right). We’ll have the majority of the tables in that area reserved for us as well.

Everything else will be the same.  The game will be on multiple TV’s, sound will be piped in through P’s sound system, a monitor will be setup with the mic for Jets chants and announcement, raffle table will be setup, drink and food specials, etc!

Saturday night games are rare for us and I encourage you to join us for this one.  The last time we had a Saturday game we did win in dramatic fashion and lot’s of us stayed long after to enjoy the thrill of the win.  So after our Jets win their 4th in a row, we can hang out and party all night long!

Out boys in Green have been looking great the last 3 games and they really seem to be gelling all around.  The bearded one has been great behind center and our wide-outs are having an incredible combined year and the running game has been doing an amazing job on 1st and 2nd down to put us into great 3rd down position.  The defense has also looked SOLID AS A ROCK recently.  This game should be ours for the taking as long as we keep doing what we’re doing.

Of course a 4th win will be a great way to go into week 16 at home against those cheating bastards the NEP and will surely bring with it the confidence Gang Green needs to kick Brady the Lady’s ASS!!  Are you with me people???

You better be at P’s tonight!  No excuses.  What better way to spend a Saturday night then to watch the Jets go for a 4th win in a row with your Jets Family.

Hey Jets Fans,

We’ve got the biggest game of the season (and one of our biggest games in years) coming up tomorrow as our number one Defense take on the Putz-riots number one offense. It’s going to an epic battle at Foxborough and one where we can really make a statement.

We continue to move up in the Power Rankings, our killer #1 Ranked Defense has been on fire and breakout RB Chris Ivory is averaging an NFL-BEST 115.0 rushing yards per game.  Ivory is full out Beast Mode!  If we can keep on doing what we’ve been doing so far, there is no reason on planet earth that our Jets don’t head home Sunday night with sole possession of the AFC East.

The past couple of weeks at Peabody’s have been tremendously exhilarating.  We’ve had a lot of Rookies in the room who are learning what a great experience it is watching the games with the fan club and we’ve had our tried and true Veteran’s who never miss a game (without probably cause anyway – like for a Mets Playoff Game).

This week looks to be no different.  We’ve got a couple of now-living-out-of-town Club Veterans that will be coming by for a visit to watch with us and I expect this week to be a serious mob scene at Peabody’s.  I’ve even warned management to expect a very large crowd so don’t disappoint me.  This should be an awesome game and one that can really push the Jets to the next level and earn this team some MAJOR props and respect.

I’ve got a whole bunch of new items for the 50/50 raffle including a couple of very cool 1st time items I know you will all love.  With the expected crowd, we could see the winner take home $300 or more.  During the second half, we’ll also be running the silent auction and raffle to benefit the ALS Society that is near and dear to Veteran member Rob McGruder’s heart.  Rob has reached deep into his own pocket to put up the items that will be on display and all proceeds will be going to support this wonderful cause.  So please consider supporting this great cause.

I’m super stoked for this weekend’s game and I can’t wait to see my Jets Family

Hey Jets fans… are you ready for some early morning football?

While we’re enjoying some Bacon and Eggs, Gang Green will be feasting on Fish (and Chips) in London. It sure is going to feel weird watching football at 9:30am but it should also be a lot of fun sharing breakfast with my Jets family.

As most of you know, the management at Peabody’s are opening up the doors at 8:30am just for us and are serving breakfast all morning. The regular menu will not be available until sometime after 11am. There will also be a special breakfast drink available so come thirsty and hungry.

Although we are coming off a tough loss against the Eagles, we did have a great shot at tying the game at the end even without our top running back and number 2 and 3 receivers. We played tight that second half and stayed in it right to the end.  Look,  no one expected us to win every game, right?

But this week…this week is special. Not only are we playing a spotlight game in London but we play our oldest rival for the 100th time.  This is a game we should win and I do think we will win in a big way with some of our starters coming back.

I also love seeing all the pics and videos that are plastered all over Facebook of all the fans their to support the team. Looks like the deck will be stacked and the stands will be packed for the NYJ!

But let’s face it, not everyone could make it out to London to be with the team. That would have been nice, right?  However, you can certainly make it out to Peabody’s to show your support and have a good time.  Yes you can watch it at home but nothing matches the excitement of watching the game with your Jets family (unless you have tickets to the game).  With the bye week next week, Sunday’s game is your last opportunity for a couple of weeks to join us and it’s likely to be the only 9:30am game we share together for a long, long time.

The time may be different but lots of things will stay the same.  I’ve got a whole bunch of new stuff for the 50/50 raffle and some goodies for the kids so be sure to bring out the whole family to our one of a kind Squish the Fish Breakfast Bowl.

Of course…, I don’t think I can do the chant with a British accent but I’m willing to give it a try if you like.  🙂

That’s right Jets Fans… our J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS are 2 – 0 and looking rock solid on both sides of the ball. An impressive game against the Colts Monday night was punctuated by a stellar performance on D and our man Revis being named Defensive Player of the Week.  We were loud and proud at P’s all night.

This week the Jets are at home against the struggling Eagles. Of course we can not let up on our game as we all know the old saying “Any Given Sunday”.  The offense needs to continue to drive down the field and score points and our D needs to continue to take the ball away and hand it over to Fitzy and the boys.

The Jets will be wearing ALL WHITE at home this week and we are calling for fan club members to do the same and create a WHITE-OUT at Peabody’s.  No need to wear white pants (unless you want to) but if you have a White Jersey…. wear it!!!

I am expecting a HUGE crowd on Sunday so you really need to think about arriving early if you want to grab a seat.  We’ll also be taking another full club group photo as the one from opening day came out a little blurry. Everything should be really amped up this Sunday and I can’t wait to see everyone including those who could not get out the first couple of weeks and all you rookies!

We are also gearing up for the London game next week and are requesting everyone to fill out London Headcount form on the website so we can give Peabody’s an idea of how many people will be around.  P’s will be opening at 8:30am for the 9:30am kickoff.

Please get back to me on this ASAP so we know how many people will be at the London game.
