From TMZ

Tim Tebow is definitely down with Jesus … but he ain’t down with “MY Jesus” t-shirts — and he’s threatening legal action because he says a website is illegally using his name to sell the merchandise.

TMZ obtained the cease and desist letter Tebow’s attorneys sent to cubbytees.com last month — in which they claim “The Merchandise makes it appear as if Mr. Tebow actually endorses Cubby Tees and its products.”

Interestingly, the tee shirts in question do not use Tebow’s image or name — but instead spell out “MY Jesus” using the colors and font of his new team … the NY Jets. In fact, the website clearly states, “This fun design is not officially endorsed by New York’s backup quarterback or the Son of God, but plays off the themes of Tebow’s faith and his new team.”

Still, Tebow’s attorneys are demanding the site stop “any use of Mr. Tebow’s name and/or likeness” — and according to Cubby Tees, Tebow already successfully petitioned eBay to remove the tees.

The shirt makers tell TMZ they aren’t backing down, and actually sent a response to team Tebow … saying the design “shares nothing with Mr. Tebow except for promotion of a common Lord and Savior.” The shirts are still for sale.

Legendary Jets quarterback Joe Namath called Mark Sanchez “sensational” and “much better” than back-up Tim Tebow.

“There’s no doubt about it, there’s no doubt about it at all,” Namath said Tuesday night at the United Way’s Gridiron Gala. “At this point, certainly. And Mark’s going to get better. He’s going into his fourth year. Golly, I remember a team that won a championship with a quarterback in his fourth year. I hope it happens again.”

Namath, of course, referred to the Super Bowl III championship he won for the Jets in his fourth pro season. He was in attendance last night as Jets right guard Brandon Moore and Giants right guard Chris Snee were honored as “Hometown Heroes” for their community service.

“I’m a big Mark Sanchez fan. I’ve also been a Tebow fan since his freshman year at Florida,” Namath said. “When draft day came up, I said, ‘Somebody’s got to draft this kid,’ because he’s only positive for the team, for anybody, whatever work he does. He’s going to bring a lot of positive vibes and effort, and it’s a plus.”

But he added, “How it works out, I don’t know. That remains to be seen.”

Jets coach Rex Ryan has said he wants to be more involved with the defense this season, and cornerback Darrelle Revis and inside linebacker David Harris said Monday that it’s noticeable already according to Brian Costello of the New York Post.

Revis said Ryan was less of a presence with the defense last season than in his first two years as Jets coach.

“He did fade off a little bit,” Revis said. “I don’t know the reason for it. He’s a head coach. He has a lot on his plate. It’s a lot of pressure. It’s just something that maybe he thought he put more trust in the coaching staff and seeing that it kind of hurt us a little bit last year. Not to frown (on) any coaches or how they coach. It’s good to see your head coach being involved and maybe just putting his two cents in, just hearing his voice every now and then in the meeting room. I think it’s good.”

Harris said Ryan has been active in the defensive classroom.

“He’s been in our defensive meetings a little bit more so far,” Harris said. “It’s still the offseason but in our installs the last two weeks he’s been more hands on coaching little points here and there and asking guys if they understand it, younger guys. I think it’s going to be a plus for us.”

Revis sat down with Ryan after the year and informed Ryan of some of the problems in the team’s locker room.

“Rex didn’t know some of the stuff that was going on,” Revis said. “He got wind of it at the tail end of the season. We tried to address it earlier through the players and it didn’t work. He was blind from it because he thought it was over. At the tail end all of this other stuff started coming out. I think that’s why he’s coming around more to be involved in what is going on and what everybody is doing and just talking to guys and making sure we’re sound as a team.”

Tim Tebow says he has worked exclusively at quarterback as Mark Sanchez’s backup during the early portion of the New York Jets’ offseason program, and is “just trying to learn the offense.”

Coach Rex Ryan and offensive coordinator Tony Sparano have said Tebow, acquired from Denver in March, could have extensive playing time for the Jets in various roles, including running the team’s wildcat-style package. Tebow says Thursday that he hasn’t been studying any other position — fullback or tight end — and adds that “they haven’t told me anything” as far as whether he would play on special teams. The Jets will likely start installing those plans later in the offseason program.

Tebow adds that he and Sanchez have a “great” relationship on and off the field.

Darrelle Revis was mum on his contract situation today, but what he did want to talk about was perceived disrespect from Patriots head coach Bill Belichick. During the offseason, he called the coach a “jerk” during a televised word association game according to Conor Orr of the Newark Star-Ledger

He stood by his words when asked to clarify.

“I feel like people let him slide when he says his smart remarks and certain things and he says comments about us like he never coached here, which he did, and that’s how I felt,” Revis said. “They told me to sum it up and I gave one word. He can take it however he wants, he can say whatever he wants to say back and even if he says something back I’m not going to get into jarring with him, I said what I had to say, he still has to coach and I still have to go out there and play.

“Sometimes things are disrespectful when you say certain comments about the Jets, some stuff is disrespectful, it’s okay to have a rivalry, it’s okay to compete but when it gets personal, that’s when it gets disrespectful. I didn’t start this battle, you know, the smart remarks he says it’s ignorant, it’s ignorant to this organization.”

When asked what specifically Belichick said, Revis pointed to post-game remarks made by the coach last season on the field.

“The one talking about the best defense, they can suck my…all that stuff, that’s ignorant, why go there?” Revis said. “You won, fair and square, hey we shok your hand after the game. But when you start saying stuff like that it gets too personal. You don’t have to say that, did anyone else say anything like that? No. Not from our side. Bart said his can’t wait thing, but he didn’t disrespect, he said they felt like they were better than us, he didn’t say go suck…do this or do that. It’s personal, it’s disrespectful.”

Jets Special Teams coordinator Mike Westhoff said he expects the new signed placekicker Josh Brown to battle Nick Folk for the kicking job this year according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

“This year, I don’t think I’m going to delve into whether that is the case or not the case,” Westhoff said of Folk having the inside track. “I want to create the most competitive atmosphere that I possibly can. Josh Brown is the best candidate to do that with. We want to have a viable battle here to see who’s going to win our job and to get the best possible guy that we can put on the field.”

Westhoff admitted that he wasn’t thrilled that the Jets didn’t upgrade the position by drafting a kicker.

“I thought it could have happened in the draft,” Westhoff said. “There were a couple of guys I liked… one in particular. We just weren’t able to do it. It didn’t happen… (much to) my consternation.”

Brown, who was signed last week after being cut by the Rams, made 82 percent of his field goals in the first eight seasons of his career before connecting on 75 percent last season.

“Sometimes you just go through some ups and downs,” Westhoff said. “He had a lot of really good years. He fell off a little. I spent a lot of time talking to him about it. I have a very good handle on some of the things that took place and why he wasn’t as efficient as he had been. Just issues… a culmination of things. I feel very confident that that’s not a big deal at all.”

“He just wasn’t as consistent as he had been in the past,” Westhoff added. “But he’s a good, viable guy. Actually at this point in time, I believe he’s the most viable candidate.”

Jets Vice President of College Scouting Joey Clinkscales is leaving the organization for a “prominent” position in the Raiders’ front office.

Clinkscales has been with the Jets for the last 17 seasons and was in his current post for the last four seasons. Clinkscales was a candidate for the St. Louis Rams’ general manager position this off-season and was a candidate for the Miami Dolphins’ opening in 2008.

What position Clinkscales will occupy in Oakland is unclear, but the move to the Bay Area was not unexpected. Clinkscales played college football with Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie at the University of Tennessee and has been rumored to be heading to Oakland since before the 2012 NFL Draft.

The Raiders have made several changes to the personnel department, including the departures today of longtime front office executive Jon Kingdon, a 33-year employee of the organization who had been the team’s college scouting director. Bruce Kebric was also dismissed and George Karras and Kent McCloughan announced their retirements.

Former Green Bay Packers Assistant Director of College Scouting Shaun Herock is slated to replace Kingdon. McKenzie has also added his twin brother, Raleigh, to the front office.

The Jets have reached agreement on a four-year contract with sixth round safety Josh Bush.

Selected with the 17th pick in the sixth round, the No. 187 pick overall, Bush’s rookie contract has a maximum value of $2.204 million with a signing bonus of $104,220. Bush becomes the second Jets’ draftee to agree to a contract, joining second round wide receiver Stephen Hill, who signed a four-year contract late last week.

The 5-foot-11, 208-pound safety was a three-year starter at Wake Forest, totaling 134 tackles, including 14 for a loss, with seven interceptions and 16 passes defensed during his 46-game career. Bush earned first-team All-ACC honors after intercepting six passes last season.

Bush’s status on the 53-man roster and first-year contributions are likely to be determined on special teams, but given the recent injury history of free agent addition LaRon Landry, the rookie could see playing time at free safety right away.

Jets coach Rex Ryan “absolutely” would like his son to continue playing football despite him suffering a concussion last season in high school.

Asked Saturday after the Jets’ second rookie minicamp practice about how some NFL players have said they’d rather their children not play the game in light of Junior Seau’s death, Ryan said he’s “proud that my kid plays.”

Ryan said his son Seth, a cornerback and wide receiver for Summit High School, suffered a concussion while playing in a game.

“That’s part of it,” Ryan said. “But, you know, I mean, we are so much further along now.”

The Jets coach is encouraged by strides in research and medical treatment in dealing with concussions. The NFL has put a strong focus on trying to prevent head injuries in recent years.

“Obviously, you have concerns when that happens, but it’s just one of those things, an unfortunate part of the game,” Ryan said. “It does happen occasionally, but I truly think everybody’s working to try to get this thing minimized. We’ve got to protect our players, protect our athletes, without question. I think we’ve tried to do that with the helmets, with the way the trainers are and everything else.”

Seau was found shot in the chest Wednesday, and the San Diego County medical examiner’s office ruled the death a suicide. The family plans to donate Seau’s brain for research into football-related injuries, but there has been no medical evidence that brain injuries from football may have played a role in his death.

The news still had some former players such as Kurt Warner hoping that their children find another sport to participate in. Warner recently told “The Dan Patrick Show” that the thought of his sons playing football “scares me.”

“I love the sport,” Ryan said. “This game has been incredible to me and my family. I mean, amazing. In fact, we made a great living doing what we love to do, and that’s be around the sport. This game is not for everybody. When I look at the young men that we have playing this game on this level, I’ve always said these are mighty men, there is no question.

“I don’t know if it’s a true fact or not, but I always say it: ‘It’s easier to win the lottery than it is to play in the National Football League.’”

Ryan acknowledged that football is a physical and violent sport, and that it takes “somebody special” to play the game.

“Would I still have my son playing?” Ryan said. “Absolutely.”
