Have you also been receiving financially tempting letters from a complete stranger,like the type shown in the image above?Actually they come in many different forms, I've also received enticing job offers from London and Canada and what's suspicious is that the message has always been very vague, it's always a general position in which anybody can qualify (like a babysitter or outsourced financial go-between where you are supposed to process product orders, but nevertheless the pay is highly attractive.I also received a letter where I was informed that I was found to be a distant relative of a very rich person somewhere in Africa and that I could inherit this person's money all I had to do was give my bank account and personal information.Honestly, I fell for one of these, only to realize at the end that it's just a modus operandi to have my personal information and access my accounts (particularly google). Sure enough, some months ago,sites under my google account have seen pornographic and 'viagra' posts. So, when you receive a similar letter where you're promised to inherit a large sum of money just by simply supplying your personal information,think twice. Better yet, ignore the scam.

How to Program Your Free-To-Air Satellite Receiver

This is our new Tv FTA (Free-To-Air) satellite receiver which started functioning only yesterday, after some tedious efforts to check and make it work. This is a new generation and handy Tv satellite receiver,in a scart form which you just plug into your tv outlet behind your set. This small decoder doesn't (obviously) have a mini-display screen where you can see the channel or other info. just like with our old satellite decoder which had higher specs in that it could transmit clear and constant flow of images.First you have to go to the satellite settings.The list of channels and satellite selection should have been set in default, but with this type of decoder, you have to select the best satellite for your area or territory,you can check this by 'trial and error' method. In our case I chose Hotbird because the rest of the satellites don't yield signal reception.(Previously we were on Hotbird 6 that captures also TBN network. Generally satellite settings are programmed in default but in some cases, you need to tweak the values of the satellite settings (polarization,symbol rate, frequency,transponder and FEC) especially if you have a target channel in mind. After choosing Hotbird satellite from the list, I went to the channels setting to download or program the available channels for that specific satellite. We found a little more than one thousand channels,some of which are accessible only by subscription and the others actually are still vacant or inaccessible.Over all, we can view perhaps, around 85 % of the over one thousand satellite channels. After the channels appear you can save them and so your normal viewing habits can continue. I'm happy about Free-To-Air satellite viewing because I can watch and be informed about what's happening all around the world,without paying a regular subscription fee to any pay TV stations or networks.

I'm not quite sure which other cities implement wi-fi connectivity but right here in Rome anyone can freely access internet by virtue of a new rule that provides internet access to all.Shown above is the screenshot of the areas all over Rome which are within the wi-fi network.This is really a great idea since Rome can be considered the leading tourist destination.But it may be bad news to internet shop owners who are located within the areas covered.For instance,in our neighborhood, a couple of wine bars or stores are wi-fi friendly already.And even here within our building I sometimes use the internet via the link from my next-door neighbor.It's also a lot of help for transients or travellers who usually need information which wouldn't be that easy to obtain due to language barrier.Tourists can also avoid being conned by opting to search on internet instead of approaching strangers who might happen to be unscrupulous.But over all, I guess the idea of open and free internet access in public areas can do more good than harm.

LG 3D LED TV: HOW DO YOU REPAIR A BROKEN LED TV?

On the night just hours before new year as we were doing our last minute tidying up, as I was throwing our garbage outside, I found this LG brand-new looking 3 D 37 inch LED TV still in its box with all the user's manual,remote control, driver CD and warranty. The first thing that came to mind was this must be GOD's answer to my youtube channel where I usually upload videos recorded from CRT tv. It really looked neat and totally new as there was also the xylophone protection around it and it was shiny and there were no scratches on the surface nor on the screen itself. We tested it and found it this way (shown in the photo) and eventually confirmed

that the LED panel was cracked. The natural thing to do was to find out how it can be restored, so we called a few service centers and eventually brought to it the nearby electronic repair shop and it was confirmed that the LED panel was broken and the repair cost is just about 15 or 20 % less than its brand new price. So the best thing to do is dismantle it and get the electronic pieces and sell it online. We then contacted our techno-geek friend to offer it for him to disassemble and sell the electronic pieces by himself.The deal was made. One thing I learned though,although new technology is very attractive and a thing to be desired or maybe acquired, it also has its 'price' or negative aspect. In this case; LED (panel) TV's are particularly very fragile and delicate,that a normal (hard) kid's toy thrown might damage it easily. Also, yesterday I had to go the electronic store and so I saw many different brands,shapes, sizes and corresponding prices of 3D LED TV's. Although we can afford an average priced LED TV I realize it's not that important because we have this traditional big old TV that is holding out. For now we consider propping up the in-come before the out-go financial-wise.

Medrano Circus in Rome Italy

During holidays season many circus shows vie for the public patronage. This recent Christmas our family had the opportunity to watch the best Circus show for this year. I say, best because they have just won the gold award for Best Circus Clowns although, the entire show proved just very spectacular in every phase. We were delighted with the incredible exhibitions, superb performances and many trained animals entertained the audience to the max ! We have seen excellent jugglers, just like you'll see in one photo here where a white suited guy successfully shot mini wooden bats to funnels extended a few meters above his head, a very well-coordinated somersault acrobats who jumped to heights equivalent to a few men in vertical position, there was also an acrobat or gymnast performing through a hanging trapeze.We have also seen 5 motorcyclists (driving heavy cylinder-bikes) actually 'race' inside the 8 or maybe 9 meter diameter sphere-cage obviously in spherical directions. There were seals who performed, two big elephants who did a simple turn-around as if dancing with the music, two big giraffes, white lions, big birds (don't quite know the name), a little dog and others, all trained for the circus. One particular fact about this Medrano Circus team, is that everyone is trained for multi-tasking. For instance,I found that the background dancers that assist a main performer, are the same ones that sold pop-corns around when it was not their turn at the 'stage'. They wore different costumes for different numbers, even riding horses like professional horseback riders. And the technical assistants and productions assistants were all quick and highly-coordinated in fulfilling their assigned tasks after each of their colleague's performance, especially when they had to disassemble or mount heavy metal protective cages around the stage, or roll and unroll one (huge)carpet after another. They were the same guys who acted as guards cum ushers for the entire venue.They had to do all things very quickly. What made the Medrano circus even more outstanding are the many and beautiful shining costumes they wore during each performance.It became obvious to me that to be a part of this impressive Circus team, one has to know very well different skills, like ride a horse, do acrobats and circus acts,sing and dance Very well, and must naturally love people. At the end of the show, all the circus performers lined up to greet the spectators at the entrance/exit gate. And they were all even, more beautiful up close.

And since they all travel mainly around Europe, they have their own trailer vans and electric generators which, as shown in these two photos, extended about twenty meters along the fenced-waY.
Really, for me Medrano Circus is an experience to remember for many, many years, and I hope to see them again if not, by this New Year 2012, next year. We wish everyone a Peaceful and Prosperous 2012 !

Bio-Technology: Pink C ocoon by Singaporean Scientists

Recently, Singaporean scientists and researchers have unveiled a new advancement in the field of bio-technology, in the form of dyed-in-worm silk. This process has potential application for medical science. Often when scientists re-generate human tissues such as cartilage or bones,they grow them on the structure known as scaffold.Synthetic polymers or colagens are normally used.Scientists are also exploring the use of silk.These are cartilage-generating cells growing on a scaffold made of spider silk.This is a sample of a scaffold made from the silk of Dr. Hans silkworm.Because it is fluorescent would be easy to manage the scaffold and actually see the cells growing. Dr. Hans: 'You can see this fluorescent silk, and also see the cells. You learn and study how the cells interact with the scaffold.' This process involves feeding the silkworm mulberries and flourescent dye, which eventually causes the silkworm to yield colored silk.
Although, its application is focused on textile materials or fashion industry, scientists are looking into the possibility of expanding its benefits in the area of medicine or curing physical disorders relating bone structures or cartilages. This is a very good news indeed, that might well be more morally acceptable than the embryonic stem cell therapy.

If there is a particular gift I really to need to have this Christmas,it is a netbook bag just like one of these. I would prefer a dark brown color or a combination of black and dark brown so as to easily go with most of my working clothes. Honestly, on normal working days you'll see me carrying a white cloth bag where I put all my materials,plus my personal bag. Sometimes I feel awkward with it because of its size/dimension, and especially when the dirt starts to darken its whiteness. I really feel for this netbook bag which is more presentable and more convenient,and more handy.Aside from Dell netbook,I can also put into it my teaching materials. It costs something like €10 or so,on discount for Christmas occasion. At the moment, I'm holding my horses on shelling out money for things that can wait until the next pay-out, since we have been spending a lot this month. My Dell Netbook

This is my Dell Netbook which I use mainly in my work. Its screen is 9" wide and its weight is about 1 kilo and its color is black. The processor is Intel Core 2.6 GHz which runs fairly fast. This Dell netbook has wi-fi connectivity which is a great help in my lessons when I access the internet for my students to view videos or listen to audio files. This netbook 's Operating system Linux comes with many helpful applications related to audio, image and video editing, games and entertainment, educational games and also the Office package so I can do a lot of things with it. But the one setback as with most netbooks,is the narrow-space keyboard which limits the freedom of your fingers' movement, so for prolonged computer needs I still use the desktop PC. Nevertheless this Dell netbook cost a mere €170 on discount sale, almost three years ago.

It's almost Christmas and of course,it's high time for shopping. These are the promotional flyers that the big commercial stores or shopping centers usually send to the customers within their area of jurisdiction. I guess,this way they save a lot of money from TV advertising which apparently costs something like a million dollars or so, for just a couple of seconds or 1 minute. And now,it is also common for these stores to offer mixed items,some supermarkets offer or sell both electronic gadgets and food or grocery items. And some exclusive electronic stores naturally would only offer or sell gadgets or related items. Personally, I have a penchant for collecting and checking out these flyers I even take them from other residences' boxes.

As you can see,there is a tablet PC that costs €100 (€99.99) the specifications include wi-fi connectivity, 2GB memory (expandable to 32 GB), multi-touch, 7" LED screen,webcam and WLAN b/g etc. Of course the price corresponds to its specificifications, and not to be compared to the other tablet PC's or iPADs that cost more but provide higher specs. I would actually prefer this tablet over my netbook because it's more handy and lighter in weight. Like my netbook, it doesn't have to possess many advanced features as long as the processor is fast or higher than 2.5 GHz so it can do things fast.At this point, I can put off buying another gadget until our budget can afford it.

EPSON PRINTERS ON THE ROAD

I saw these printers on the different days of the month of November,dumped on the streets where I usually pass on my way home. I really would have taken them home or given them to a friend who's a very good electronic technician.But I couldn't,besides the fact that I usually dress up in business attire and the printers are well exposed at the public area (would be embarassing), the buses during rush hours are packed with commuters.(I don't drive a car).It would be very bothersome to the other bus passengers.The black Epson printer even had with it all the warranty documents,instruction manual(I suppose with installation CD also) and short usb cable.I just took their photos to share with you. These are Epson multi-purpose printers (scanner,photocopy and printer) and I guess,the white one includes fax too. I myself only have a very old Hp printer, and really need a multi-purpose printer like these for my lessons which require me everytime to photocopy the exercise sheets for every student and I lose a minimum of 20 minutes trekking to the photocopy shop and waiting in line.However,I saw a few weeks ago an ad from an electronic store,selling similar printers at a very low price €29.95.Nowadays,perhaps due to competition or in an effort to dispose of their stocks,a lot of these stores are also lending the gadgets on 0% loan and it's very easy to have anything you want instantly,as long as you can prove you got a stable job and no excessive previous loans in your name.

Language issues aside,Siri is able to interpret even better,the many command tipologies,but the thing that maybe,some people are not aware of,is that Siri does not elaborate the request locally,but it necessitates an internet connection.If, on one hand this characteristic allows in not causing more load to the phone,on the other hand instead,it generates a data traffic which is not in itself very consistent and, as a matter of fact,can incite on the life of the battery,to say the least,when the connection runs through phone networks,and uses Siri more frequently,something which initially can easily happen when trying all possibilities of interaction.But, if language interpretation runs through the Apple server,why not concede the use of Siri even to those who use terminals older than the last model? There is no official reply to this issue,even where the beta version is concerned;What is less understandable is the fact that certain information,like those of the addresses and restaurants,for the moment are available only within the USA.Personally,inspite of these due experiments to understand the level of system reliability,I am using Siri to start the music that I want to hear,and set the memo (another pleasant news about iOS5).

The new camera is another strong point of iPhone 4S.As mentioned, following the presentation,besides the higher resolution (both in the photographic quality,which
was upgraded from 5 to 8 Mpixel, and in the video quality, upgraded from 720 p to 1080p) the main improvement consists in having utilized a better optic lens,that allow the sensors to receive a major quantity of light and therefore take better photos especially in conditions where there are scarce lighting. Furthermore iOS5 finally introduces the possibility to manage the photo album directly in application integrated within the system, allowing minimal elaboration:the standard editing and rotations, the elimination of red eyes,and a better command that acts in a completely automatic way on the color curves.It's not actually a big deal, nevertheless the storage application is not lacking and it's also free,above all there is a possibility of moving the photos and creating new albums which can then also be synchronized with the computer,in addition to all of these,the activatiion of the Photostreaming service through iCloud allows the synchronization of every shot,with all the other devices associated to the account user.
Considering all these,doubtless, the biggest news in iPhone 4s is Siri. Inspite of it,being openly still in beta,Siri works discretely very well,as far as speaking in good English, French or German, is concerned. For those who are not yet aware, Siri is a vocal assistant that is able to understand our requests and execute some commands. With Siri it is possible to send mails or messages without touching the screen,set appointments or memo,recall a musical note or do a search on the web,request diverse information (weather,address,restaurants etc.) and many more. To be able to use it in developed countries or in all the other countries where localization is not yet available,it is necessary to set the system in the language which is actually used by Siri, as well as the relative layout of keypad setting. If you want to have the possibility of dictating the text (this,at the moment,introduces unpleasant setbacks to those who want to try to use Siri with a language different from that which he usually uses)because for instance,in writing italian,the automatic English checker would only be a predicament.And Siri is not yet able to understand the text dictated in italian:it will be necessary to wait for 2017 before iPhone 4S will be able to communicate with italian voice assistant. (At the moment Siri is not yet even mentioned in the Italian website of Apple).

At first glance, it's not really easy to spot the difference between the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4:only a careful eye will be able to notice the slight difference in the design of the external antenna,while it takes an even more scrutinous eye to notice (on closer examination of both models) the difference in the optical lens of the cameras.But the main upgrade of iPhone 4S (compared to iPhone 4) is more obvious,in the actual usage:the processor Apple A5 (the same processor mounted on iPad 2) allows a quicker response or reaction.Furthermore,concerning loading heavy applications (as there can be some games,or softwares that need database or even the new version of Garageband,which, with the recent update,has become 'universal'), iPhone 4S can make the application immediately available,in contrast to the multiple- second loading time of its previous version; and if the application makes intensive graphic use, the sense of an even quicker response or loading gets more evident.So, whoever uses several heavy applications can surely benefit in having an iPhone with a memory of 64GB,even if the price of this model (€899) is certainly not that affordable. Going back to the structure of the antenna,iPhone 4S is able to manage the different areas of the frame depending on how it is pointed or positioned.This should put an end to the argument that came up last year upon the release of iPhone 4,when the problem existed regarding the 'signal loss on certain cellular positioning'. In view of all these options, it is not anymore possible to choose to independently disactivate the 3G connectivity in the iPhone 4S setting. Whereas in the previous model,whoever uses the data connection just to load the email,usually would prefer to avoid 3G to save battery power, but there is only one generic switch to activate or disactivate the cellular data.

As it is,we are living in a very fast paced society where technology advances faster than our ability to catch up,it seems that everything is constantly progressing and changing,material-wise.Now we come upfront to a yet another, new technology called Gladvertising which is a fusion of marketing and technopreunership at its best so far. This method has been used by Steven Spielberg in his previous film starring Tom Cruise,the Minority Report. Gladvertising is an outdoor marketing scheme, displayed on digital billboards situated in public areas (bus station,the mall or business shops), which is programmed to generate advertisements or publicities depending on the mood or facial expression of the onlooker. For instance, if the individual has a sad face it could produce an ad relating to a happy vacation in a tropical paradise. It is designed to adhere to the software application being used by iphone,3DTV's and touchscreens and, has the capability to access the individual's personal information through NFC (Near Field Communication) thereby, able to produce adverts linked to the profile of the individual. In summary, Gladvertising is an upfront and more personal advertising approach using the latest technology. And in the future, I am fully confident that we will see more technological innovations.

Twice a week,I have a private lesson with a businesswoman whose business is located right at the center of Rome. And on my way to her place,I pass by a flea market where they sell just about every kind of knickknack you can think of, also a wet market mixed somewhere within it.But as it is,I have a penchant for all things gold in color,be it clothes or accessories or anything.But more particularly jewelry,I have my own set of gold jewelries which I accumulated over the years.But 10 years ago my taste was simpler,now I think I have adapted to the italian lifestyle even,their manner of accessorizing fashion-wise.So now I find myself being fond of dangling gold earrings,necklace ornaments or style rings.I bought a couple of pieces of these fake gold ornaments at the flea market,as they're really head-turners.But since they faded way too soon, I realize it is more practical to invest in real gold rather than throwing your money on things that you can use for only a short period.

Computer Course

I have been contemplating recently on being able to take up a crash course on computer programming. Here in Rome it is not cheap,so I'm trying to study on my own but it would be more productive to go on a formal schooling where one can interact with the Professor and other learners. As a working mother and housewife,I prefer jobs which allow me maximum flexibility with time,to enable me to balance all the important activities in my daily routine,and my current job as an English Teacher makes it all possible for me to manage my schedule.But now,with the prospect of earning more income I am opting to shift jobs as soon as possible. Hopefully when we will be able to return to the Philippines for a vacation I would not miss enrolling for a short course in computer programming.I am fully aware that the educational system in the Philippines is more advanced and practical and convenient for me because it is conducted in english.And computer jobs here in Rome or Europe in general, pay so much more than teaching jobs.
