The company unveiled the new applications across seven hotel brands including its Conrad, Hilton, Doubletree, Embassy Suites, Hilton Garden Inn, Homewood Suites and Hampton Inn brands in the United States.

The new applications have features that are a first for the hotel industry including a “Request Upon Arrival” service that enables a traveler to place an order for room service and have a meal in the guestroom upon arrival at the Hilton, Doubletree and Embassy Suites brands.

The new applications also offer “e-check in,” a feature that provides remote check-in up to 48 hours in advance.

The announcement comes as the industry is experiencing an increase in hotel reservations made on mobile devices.

Hilton Worldwide reports a 59 percent increase in mobile revenue, during the third quarter of 2009 compared to the first quarter of 2009, generated primarily from the company’s mobile-enabled website. The company’s mobile revenue has increased every quarter in 2009.

The new applications enable guests to manage their hotel experience from the palm of their hand and provide the following features: search for hotels nearby via address, city, airport or even GPS mapping; make a new hotel reservation at any of Hilton Worldwide’s 3,400 hotels; view, modify and cancel existing reservations; check-in online up to 48 hours in advance for gold and diamond members of the Hilton HHonors frequent-guest program; order food and/or services to be available “upon arrival” at the Hilton, Doubletree Embassy Suites and brands; redeem points and stays for members of the Hilton HHonors frequent-guest program; and check point balances for members of the Hilton HHonors frequent-guest program.

In addition, the company has already launched an iPhone application for the Hilton brand in the United Kingdom.

Additional markets are being evaluated for mobile applications with a focus on countries such as Germany and Japan that have high concentrations of people who use mobile devices.

Cornish bolthole hotel, Barclay House, is quite literally putting the lyrics into action with the chance for couples to take their vows on their very own private island.

In collaboration with the Cornwall Wildlife Trust, Barclay house is offering a once in a lifetime opportunity to marry on legendary St.George’s Island. The island is known to date back to 1139 and includes the ruins of a Benedictine chapel, legend also states that Joseph of Arimethea landed here with the child Christ. The island was inhabited by two sisters who lived in the stunning surroundings until 2004. Channel 4 recently featured St George’s Island on Time Team due to its significant archaeological appeal.

The 22 acre island is now preserved as a nature sanctuary with weddings limited strictly to 12 per year, making it one of the most coveted venues in Cornwall.

The unique package means that guests can take advantage of the awe-inspiring scenery of their own private island, with the bride and groom arriving separately by boat from the mainland historic fishing town of Looe. Ceremonies are especially intimate, with numbers strictly limited to no more than 32 guests.

After the ceremony, couples can celebrate with friends and family and keep in the Cornish spirit with a sparkling wine toast from Camel Valley vineyard. Guests are then escorted from the island to the reception and wedding breakfast at Barclay House in Looe which boasts an AA rosette award winning restaurant, six acres of ever changing gardens and woodlands, accommodation of 11 bedrooms and eight luxury self catering

Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA), in partnership with the City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, has announced the opening of two exhibits by Los Angeles-based artist teams at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX).

On display in Terminal 3 in the Baggage Claim area, the art installations were designed to engage travelers in a dialogue about Los Angeles and the city’s diverse experiences.

The exhibits are free and on display through February 14, 2010. “CrissCross,” an 80-foot long wall painting installation by Mara Lonner and Kim Schoenstadt, was developed based on the history of the airport’s plant life and architecture.

The artists incorporated elements found at LAX, such as the control towers, lights and a native plant called California Buckwheat to illustrate the airport as an environment of interconnected places and experiences. “OutCast II,” a piece developed by former Watts Towers Center Director John Outterbridge, employs an array of beautiful compositions of hand-tied, multi-colored rags collected from LA’s Garment District. The artists use the symbolism of rags as a reflection of social dilemmas. The Art Exhibits Program at LAX and LA/Ontario International Airport (ONT) were designed to emphasize the cultural experience that make Los Angeles unique and interesting.

Exhibits are on display in Terminals 1, 2, 3 and Tom Bradley International Terminal at LAX, and Terminals 2 and 4 at LA/Ontario.

A rolling wall allows the 3,200-square-foot structure to transform from an acoustically refined recital hall, which can accommodate 140, into an outdoor performance space — described as a “mini Hollywood Bowl” — for audiences of up to 1,000.

The Wild Beast will begin housing recitals, rehearsals and classes for the Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts this fall.

Made necessary by the school’s increasing enrollment, the $4 million construction cost was funded through the generosity of donors to the Campaign for CalArts.

New Big Five packages feature Galapagos Safari Camp, which has eight luxury safari tents on a hill on a farm in the highlands of Santa Cruz Island.

The site is rich in birdlife with finches, warblers, mockingbirds, Galapagos doves, egrets and owls as well as tortoises.

All tents are spacious and have balconies with views of the area and the ocean. Each tent has a private bathroom, with hot shower as well as a fireplace, dining room and an infinity pool with views of the ocean.

The eight-day Galapagos Safari Camp Discovery program offers an in-depth exploration of Santa Cruz Island that includes local villages such as Bellavista and takes in some of the biggest hills of the island — Media Luna, Puntudo and Cerro Crocker. Garrapatero, one of the most exotic beaches in the islands, has a landscape of black lava, pioneer cacti, white sand and a turquoise sea. Blue-footed boobies are found there, pelicans fish in the bay, crabs scuttle into their burrows and marine iguanas stroll along the beach. Tortuga Bay has a white sandy beach and a nearby mangrove lagoon suitable for swimming and snorkeling.

In the town of Puerto Ayora, Chi Spa offers relaxing spa treatments. The island is home to the Charles Darwin Foundation, with its tortoise breeding center.

Big Five also offers a new eight-day Galapagos Safari Camp Diving program with an emphasis on scuba diving at various island sites such as North Seymour, which is home to a large colony of garden eels as well as sea turtles, sea lions, fur seals, eagle rays, yellow-tailed grunts, big-eyed jack, and frequently white tip reef sharks and hammerheads.

Beagle Island south of Santiago Island is good for beginner and intermediate divers, and includes a wall covered with black coral and sea fans that drops to more than 60 meters.

The waters off Gordon Islands have a tuff cone formation that is a world famous dive site about one hour from the base. This site is for intermediates and expert divers because there can be strong currents and surge.

The Galapagos Safari Camp price begins at $2,750 per person double occupancy land only and includes accommodation, all meals, sightseeing tours and guides.

The scuba package, which starts at $2,790 per person double occupancy land only also includes six dives, complete dive gear, bilingual guides (one guide for every four or five divers), transport to/from dive site and towel service.

For more than 36 years experience, Big Five Tours & Expeditions is a luxury travel company specializing in individualized vacations worldwide; from custom-designed, private vacations to fully-escorted, special-interest groups to destinations that span Africa, South and Central America (including the Galapagos Islands), Asia and The Orient, South Pacific, Antarctica and The Arctic.

The lodge is one of only a few in Africa with access to a private dam and the ability to offer a cruising experience.

Powered by a quiet four-stroke engine, it allows for excellent bird watching and low-impact game viewing from the water. With leather seats and marine grade carpet, the pontoon offers a comfortable game-viewing option, cruising the Malilangwe dam through the African landscape.

Common sightings range from hippos, crocodiles, elephant herds and water buck, to fish eagles, kingfishers and many other species of water birds such as cormorants, darters and crakes.

Fishing excursions are also offered on a catch-and-release basis, where the catch of the day may include catfish and bream, as well as the renowned tiger fish and bass.

Singita Pamushana was recently included in Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List 2009.

Located on 130,000 acres within the Malilangwe Wildlife Reserve, an unspoiled wilderness reserve, it can be reached via a two-hour direct flight from Johannesburg.

The property comprises six luxurious suites and a five-bedroom villa.

The Singita product offering includes nine high-end and low-impact lodges in four destinations:
