Are you still clinging to your gold investments? It’s time to seriously consider dumping them. The writing is on the wall. That’s my opinion. But let’s take a closer look at what needs to happen for you to realize a gain. At today’s prices, you’d have to believe…

- The US dollar is going to completely collapse and be replaced as the global currency.
- That inflation is going to return to double digits.
- That nations in debt (US included) are going to default.
- That the almost infinite supply (yes, I said infinite) dries up.
- That all the sovereign wealth funds of the world become insolvent.
- That the IMF and Central banks do not flood the market with a sell off.

If you truly believe all these things are going to happen I’d suggest buying things like canned food, water, weapons, etc., that you can actually use in your cave.

Gold is soaring to historic highs. I have long suggested a ‘false demand’ fueled by speculation, self interest, and the powerful motivating factor called greed, has been and will the driving force behind the price of gold. We saw the very same motivators drive Wall Street… until the walls came tumbling down because the underlying fundamentals were simply not there to support them. Is gold headed down that same path right before our eyes?

32ct Annenberg Diamond Sells for $240k/ct.

The 32.01 carat, D color, flawless diamond diamond shattered previous records when it sold at Christie’s auction house for over $7.7 million to an anonymous bidder. Originally estimated to sell for around $5 million, the flawless diamond set a new per carat record says the auction house.

Rahul Kadakia, head of jewelry at Christie’s New York, said :

“For three-and-a-half hours, between 10:00 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 at Christie’s, it was as if the recession never happened,” he said. “Virtually every lot exceeded its estimate, and the $7.7 million Annenberg Diamond astonished even the most seasoned diamond dealer. It was an auction to remember. And if this were not enough, the sale started again at 2:30 p.m. and continued until 7:00 p.m., giving collectors opportunity to acquire exceptional masterpieces from the superb collection of Rare Jewels and Objets d’Art.”

For jewelers this may be a sign that high quality jewelry is still a viable business option, and may be an indication that the recession is coming to a slow end.

Damiani has done it again with this very cool rose gold and diamonds ring. Something about this ring just makes me happy. Made using a Damiani D links with diamonds set in the white gold links it just makes a striking statement to me. Being rose gold doesn’t hurt either, we need to see more jewelry using more colors than just white and yellow for the metal.

I stumbled across this cool idea over at MSN a few weeks ago. Instead of making your beautiful jewelry live a sheltered, unused life in the bottom of your jewelry box, why not display it as a work of art? This shot shows several manzanita branches placed in a simple vase. Then each necklace, chain, and pair of earrings is carefully hung and displayed.

You get to store your jewelry in a way it won’t get all tangled together, and it certainly makes it easier to look at everything you have when you are trying to decide what to wear.
