Elephant Hair Bracelet

Step 1
Straighten 52 inches of 18 gauge round wire by putting one in the vise, securing the other in draw tongs or parallel jaw pliers, and pulling on the wire.

Step 2
Cut 4, thirteen inch pieces of 18 gauge round wire (from the straightened piece) for the bracelet (one may also use 20 or 22 gauge for the bracelet but 18 is sturdier). This bracelet, when finished, will have an adjustable circumference of 8-9 112 Inches. For a smaller bracelet, start with 4- twelve inch lengths.

Step 3
Cut 2- ten inch pieces off 20 gauge for the knot. The gauge and length should be adjusted if using thinner wire for the bracelet or making bigger knots.

Step 4
Tape the four 18ga. pieces together every 3 inches starting three inches from the end. Be sure the wires are side by side.

Step 5
Bend 4 strands into an "S" curve using forming or flat pliers. Close loop ends. The "S" should be approximately 318 inch in length.

Step 6
Bend the length of all the wires around a bracelet mandrel, or other form, with the "S" loop end on top of the other wires. Keep all wires adjacent to one another- side by side.

Step 7
Making the first knot:
a) Bend 1 1/2 inches of the ten inch piece at a right angle
b) Feed the long piece of the wire through the "S" (either loop of the "S" will do)
c) Wrap around the "S" curve AND wires underneath. Wrap the entire length of the "S" and put the end of the wire through the other loop of the "S". One end of the wire should be pointing toward you and the other end away from you.

Step 8
Take the short end of the original" knot" wire and put it into slot "K and pull through. Take what is left of the long wire and put it into slot " W and pull through. Use parallel jaw pliers to "square up" the knot. Clip and finish ends as necessary.

Step 9
Place the end wires (other end from where the knot is) on top of the four original wires (the wires will lift up and cross over). Start the second "S" curve by bending the wires down and then up.

Step 10
Repeat step number 8 with the second 10-inch piece.

Step 11
Tumble polish or brass brush. DO NOT BUFF.

What You'll Need:

4 colors of embroidery floss, 2-1/2 feet each
Deli containers with the 6 recycling symbol (or shrink plastic)
Permanent marker pens
Gold metallic elastic thread
Tape
Scissors
Pencil
Hole punch
Aluminum foil
Oven

Step 1: Tie the four different colors of embroidery floss together. Tape the knotted end to a table top.

Step 2: Select a color of floss to begin. Make a loop with the floss and bring the end through the loop.

Step 3: Pull the strand tightly to make a knot. Repeat this knot until you have covered about one inch, pulling the knots up tightly as you go. The knots will naturally spiral around the inner threads. If you'd like, add charms to your bracelet.

Step 4: To make charms: Download the Stencil Instructions as a PDF. Place clean, flat pieces of plastic over the patterns, and trace with a pencil. Using markers, color the backgrounds, then add details and outline. You can also draw designs of your own, making them about the same size as the pattern shapes.

Step 5: Cut out the plastic shapes. Punch a hole in each one, not too close to the edge.

Step 6: Ask an adult to help with this step. Lay plastic shapes on aluminum foil and bake in an oven set at 300 degrees Fahrenheit for one to two minutes. The plastic will curl and shrink, then gradually flatten. Remove the charms from the oven when they're almost flat.

Step 7: Cool charms completely, then string them onto your woven bracelet or onto elastic thread, making a knot to tie each charm about 1/2 inch from the others. Cut the thread after seven or eight charms and knot the ends securely.

You'll need the following supplies and equipment:

2 Sapphire colored AB Czech teardrop crystal beads
2 Light blue AB Czech 4mm crystal beads
2 Light blue 4mm freshwater pearls
1 Flower lampwork bead made by D.D. Hess
2 Sterling crimp beads
18 inches of blue Beadalon beading wire size .015
About 5 inches of sapphire Colour Craft 20-gauge wire
Nylon pliers
Round nosed pliers
Wire cutters
Crimping pliers

1. First, start by making a clasp using the same instructions for my Clover Clasp project and some sapphire colored 20-gauge wire. Nylon pliers are great when working with this type of wire. Once you finish the clasp, set it aside for later.

2. Now use wire cutters to cut about 18 inches of beading wire.
3. Attach a crimp bead to one end of the wire. 4. Once you get one end crimped, use wire cutters to cut off excess beading wire.

5. Now slip on your beads in the following order: teardrop, pearl, 4mm crystal, lampwork bead, 4mm crystal, pearl, teardrop. Make sure that the teardrops have the smaller ends pointing in towards the lampwork bead.

6. Finish the other end of the beading wire with a crimp bead as you did in steps 3 and 4.

7. Now, get the clasp you made previously, and open the eye part of the clasp a little. Slip the loop on one end of the necklace onto the clasp, and close the clasp back up.

8. Thread the loop of the other end of the necklace through the clover/flower of the hook side of the clasp.

9. Once you get it resting in the center loop of the clover/flower, use nylon pliers to flatten or press the clover/flower. This will help to keep your beading wire loop inside the clover/flower.

You need to buy hemp twine from a store. The most popular option for bracelet is the 1mm thick natural colored hemp that is also known as 20 lb twine. Of course, you are free to choose any color you want!
Measure the strand of the hemp around six times the length of the bracelet you want to make; then cut it. Also, cut another strand of the hemp that measures almost twelve times the length of the bracelet you want to make.
Taking one strand at a time, fold both of them in the middle and make a crease at the mid-point of each strand. Tie a knot at the creased midpoints together and leave a loop at the end, which is around 1/2- to 3/4-inch long.
Pin the loop to a piece of fabric furniture in order to secure the knotted end. Place something heavy on top of the loop for weighing it down. Now, place the four strands in a way that the short ones are in the middle together and the one long strand on each side.
Begin knotting by pulling the right outer strand over the middle strands to a 45 degree angle away from them. Take it below the left outer strand creating a figure ‘4’. Now take the left outer strand below the middle strands and pull through the middle of the figure ‘4’. Pull both the outer strands to tighten them.
Do the same thing again, this time on the opposite side, starting with the left outer strand. This kind of alternate knotting will give you a flat pattern. You may create a spiral patter by knotting on the same side.
Now, add a bead by threading it on the two short middle strands. The bead should be kept in place by knotting around in the figure 4 pattern. One or two knots must be left between each bead.
Continue in this pattern till the bracelet is long enough for you to tie around your wrist. When you are on the verge of finishing the bracelet, tie all the four strands together in one strong knot. The four loose strands beyond this knot should be tied through the loop on the other end of the bracelet.
