I love you to the moon...

My dear and eldest sister 🌻passed away in 2019 it was also our dad's 79th birthday. I still find it challenging to really grasp the fact that she has died. I know she has transitioned, I know cause when I want to call her on the phone, I can't but I have not really been able to accept the fact that she is dead. I'm not in denial, but I just don't want to engage in the grief.

Truth be told, she's alive in my heart and in my thoughts. I can feel her love surrounding me but I just can't hear her voice, can't pick up the tablet to video chat with her at all hours of the evening, physically, she is gone. My sister and I (honestly she was like this with all her loved ones) could chat for hours and hours. For the last several years, she lived in Florida and she made it her business to be present for all the moments in my life that made a difference. It didn't matter if it was a challenging time or a celebration, she was there.

The very last time I physically hugged my sister was Mother's Day weekend of 2019. My sister and brother in love took the long and cumbersome drive from Orlando to Queens, NY to be with our mom and us, but mostly our mom. If I am 100% honest with myself and with you, I will say I felt like it would be the last time I would physically be in her presence. I had this foreboding sensation, I don't know if I ever truly acknowledged it till this very moment... She wasn't feeling well and she still made the trip. It was a big deal to her to be with us and I was so grateful to be able to hug her.

Recently, I had a conversation with a dear friend who expressed the pain she felt when her grandmother passed, 💔 I was moved and struck by her sharing that ultimately she knew her grandmother wasn't supposed to physically be with her for very long, she was her grandma after all. But my sister, my sister was 58 years young. SHE WAS MY SISTER! Siblings and babies, they are supposed to live forever, or at least a very long time.

My sister, she was life. She was full of joy and gratitude. Her laughter was infectious. We all just loved to be with her or around her. That's just who she was. Even though she suffered for many years with a disease, she was strong and graceful, she never complained of victimized herself. Mav was strong like a superhero, gentle like an angel, and all-around fierce just like her own self!

We were supposed to grow old together. WE were supposed to be little old ladies just laughing it up, we use to laugh so much. 😊We didn't grow up in the same house but our hearts were united. Our dad made us siblings and love and life made us friends.

Let me tell you about my sister, she lived the way she wanted to live and she loved with intensity. We often talked about growing old and just enjoying life but also about not wanting to be away from our loved ones. Ever meet a person who you just feel seen by? Have you ever been truly and unconditionally loved by someone who had no expectations but always only saw the very best in you??? That was my sister. Damnit, she adored me like no one else. I think the only other person who looks at me the way my sister use to look at me is my son. ❤

Mav always knew how to show it.

When my youngest brother called to tell me our sister had passed away all I could say was, "NO!" I didn't break down then and there cause first, my 10-year-old was standing beside me and asking me what was wrong, and second, I had to call a few of our loved ones to share the heartbreaking news. I had to keep my composure. I've kept my composure for over a year. There are moments I break down and cry but mostly I smile and remember all the love and joy she was in my life. I don't know if I can handle the grief, most especially after the immense challenges, tragedies, and unexpected hardships of 2020.

The last time I hugged my sister she gifted me with a beautiful charm for my pandora bracelet, I don't wear it on my bracelet, I wear it on my necklace, so it's close to my heart. The charm reads, "To the Moon and Back..." When I see the moon shining even when the sun is out, I know my sister is always with me. When I look up to the sky and see the stars surrounding the moon, I feel my sister surrounding me. It doesn't happen all the time but it happens quite often. When a cardinal joins me in my backyard, I know it's my sister just checking in on us.

I try to think of death as just a part of life, like walking into another room or arriving at another level. My perspective is, we are all souls having a human experience. Our hearts are intertwined and our souls will forever be connected, also I was extremely blessed to have Mav as my big sister. To be loved by my sister, how I was loved, is Grace.

To the moon and back...

Please excuse the sappy title, I can be so very sappy at times it just makes me smile.

Yesterday, my five year old shared with me that he was in love with a girl in his class and he was going to marry her. Not only was I surprised by his share, I was startled with my response. I asked my son why he was in love with his classmate, I asked what about her made him fall in love with her. He said, "She did, just her." What a pure and authentic feeling and response.
See it truly is that simple.
Often times us adults, we complicate things.

JUST LOVE and BE LOVE.

Caras Vemos.

"Caras Vemos"

When I was a child my mom would often say, "Caras Vemos, Corazones No Sabemos." This loosely translates to, "We See Faces, Hearts We Don't Know."

At the time I took it to mean what I still think she feels it means, which was don't trust anyone just because they say or do something kind. I think what she was attempting to teach me was to not judge a book by its cover.

Today I had an aha moment that brought me back to the wise cliche my mom shared with me. I was having a conversation with a mom and she shared some personal information. I extended my gratitude to her for finding the trust and confidence to share something so heavy. I told her I was grateful and that I come from the school of thought that we should be creating "Red Tents," together. I expressed how I find this society is growing but right now it can sometimes be a challenge to find authentic and positive support.

Today when I was blessed with someone sharing part of their story with me I heard my mom's words, "Caras Vemos, Corazones No Sabemos," and I took it to mean that although I can see you standing right here in front of me with grace and a smile on your face I don't really have any clue what has transpired in your heart. I don't really know what you've gone through, I am not familiar with your story.

Today I learned that what my mom was truly teaching me with her wise words was compassion.

I always say Sharing Is Caring. Can you share a moment with someone today without judgment only with love and compassion?

The Universe Conspires...

The other night I was having a conversation about someone who was pretty present in my life for a while, we were good friends. We are still friends but because of our lives it's seldom when we connect. Nevertheless, I was having a conversation about my friend and the very next morning I missed their call on my mobile.

Joyfully, this past weekend I had traveled with my family to the Dominican Republic for a few days. When we were returning from our short stint there I saw two book stores at the airport and told my partner I needed to find a copy of Paolo Coehlo's The Alchemist, in Spanish cause I had lost my original copy, which, sadly, I never read! My partner said he would find it online for me and that would be great but I really felt that buying the book in DR after this trip would be a great reminder of the time shared, anyway, I didn't find the book. When we stepped into the fuselage we were upgraded to first class, that was very cool. Initially I thought I would to take a nap but I was feeling so comfortable I decided to take out my book so I can read, The Gifts of Imperfection, Let Go of Who You Think You're Suppose to be and Embrace Who You Are by Brené Brown, Ph.D., L.M.S.W.

When I opened the book at that moment, I was on page 90 and when I got to page 91 guess what I read in the GET INSPIRED portion?!?

She talked about her 2007 (Breakdown) Spiritual Awakening it happened after or right before her amazing TEDTalk on Vulnerability, the one you may have gotten a link to from me (I got it from my friend Jude! THANKS!!!!) a few years ago or not but definitely try to check it out. And she mentions Anne Lamott, Sue Monk Kidd, and Pema Chodron and lastly she writes:

And last, I absolutely love this quote from Paulo Coelho's, The Alchemist: "...intuition is really a sudden immersion of the soul into the universal current of life, where the histories of all people are connected, and we are able to know everything, because it's all written there."

It was on the very next page that I read and this was moments prior to me searching for the book in the two stores at the airport.

Some folks hear this and think nothing of it, some folks laugh and think how

silly I am and there are those of you who see what I mean and think, What We Focus On Expands, Where we put our Energy Is What We Feed and Grows.

I see this trivial moments and smile cause In My Heart and Soul I know nothing is trivial.

Grounded

This is my favorite tree.
Every time I see it, I smile.
It doesn't matter the season, it always inspires a deep seeded smile.

When I see the tree I'm reminded of my family, my first family, my extended family, my partnered up family, my church family, my work family, my communal family, all my family.

I think of how different we all are; I think of the tapestry of sorts. The intricate and complex yet simple arrangement of all the branches extending bring to mind a dance or sorts.

Every season it looks very different and if you look closely you will see its constant presence is a consistent and majestic tapestry of Love.

When I see my tree I feel grounded. It's such a joy for me to see!

An Affirmation.

A value I have, that I often share, is the fact that I am a firm believer that What I FOCUS on EXPANDS. I believe I create my life, even when I'm not paying attention. I believe in the power of intention and find that the Universe supports my intentions, in all ways. I feel this innately and find it to be a universal truth. I am often moved and grateful for the affirmations I receive, moment to moment. It is inspiring to witness alignment. With this in mind I had to share an experience I had this week that started with a thought I had and chose to share with my internet friends.

Here is the discussion that ensued via one of my main Social Networking platforms when I shared my thought:

This was my status update:

There are good people in the world,

they are ready to be kind to you and to help you...

be one of those good people.

The first comment I received went like this (Person A):

I'm one of those people. And I always wonder, will they be there to help me too?!?

I responded with:

Only you can answer that question, love.

Dios dice, "Ayudate que yo te ayudare." <--This means

--> God says, Help yourself and I will help you.

The Response that came back was (Person A):

No I can't answer it.....The people I've helped have to answer it when

I am in a bind and call them!

My Response to this was:

I'm sure if you sit down and think about it although you have endured

so much loss you have been truly blessed by so much grace.

I'm sure of it. I for one haven't gotten any call and if I can't respond as you

need I would hope that you know I'm a god person and all I want is to be kind to you

and for your greater good. I keep thinking about when I hold the door for someone and

they don't say thank you. I use to be so very righteous that it would make me angry if the ungrateful momo didn't say thank you and thankfully, I'm at a place where I hold the

door because it's what I want to do, it's how I want to show up, a verbal thank you isn't necessary for me to feel good about what I just did. I know it's not what you are talking

about specifically but it's all connected. Stop for a moment and think of all the great in

your life and you won't have to wonder cause we are all already there for you!

At this point a third person engages in the dialogue,

Person C responds to Person A:

You're so right...Talk is sometimes too easy and cheap and you'll never know

until you ask for help or kindness. Sometimes the least likely person

will step up and the most likely will disappear into the sunset.

To this I replied:

Whatever we choose is what we will experience. And...the man who introduced me to

The AMAZING FOUR AGREEMENTS, nothing is personal

so disappearing into the sunset is OK.

Person C responds to Me:

Don't take it personal doesn't mean don't have emotions.

Not everything is ok, but most things should not be taken personal

unless there is a lesson that needs to be learned.

To this I replied:

If you ask me to show up for you a certain way and I can't

it's not really about what I think of you or feel for you or your worth.

That's all I'm saying and we all feel what we outta feel.

Everything is fine at all times, even when it's not.

The world is conspiring for my greater good. If you believe different that's okay too.

Person C responds to Me:

ok, it's not biblical, it's just your opinion and mine.

Each of us is a story maker and teller.

What's good and right for you is just that.

To this I replied:

AMEN! The world conspiring for my greater good isn't biblical,

it's just a reality. It's also conspiring for your greater good,

you just have to believe it. ANd yes, AMEN, what's appropriate for me is

just that,appropriate for me. I choose to not break things down as good or bad or right or

wrong but that's a whole 'nother debate for another time. Gotta get back to work. Namaste!

I did not get anymore responses after that at this point.

So the alignment and affirmation I received was enormous for me. I was watching a recording

of Oprah's OWN Super Soul Sunday conversation with Paulo Coehlo, they were discussing

his book, "The Alchemist." To my dismay I

have not read it yet so imagine my elation

when they discussed this Universal Truth,

which is apparently illustrated throughout the

entire book, "When you want something all the universe conspires in helping you to get it."

We are all entitled to our perspectives, or

opinions, and of course our experience. I do

recommend if you are not familiar with this

truth, research it further, scientifically,

spiritually, mathematically, in all ways, get to the root of it and share with me your outcomes.

What Do You Call It?

Lately I've been thinking a whole lot about that thing, You know, that thing deep inside of me, deep inside of

you. Some folks call it, "inner guidance," some call it, "intuition," and some even call it, "a gut feeling."

I mean isn't it imperative to think about this cause doesn't it guide actions?

Does it guide your actions?
What is your idea regarding that inner feeling that inspires, motivates, and moves you?
What do you call it?

Do you call it anything at all?

At time I think of it as, experience, wisdom, divinity, passion all combined into moments of true clarity but what do I call it? I haven't found a word for it cause it just isn't that black and white.

Is it light?
Is it drive?
Could it be reality?

Do you know what IT is I am speaking of?
Tell me, what do YOU call it?

Let Go, Let God

Week two of kindergarten started this morning and perhaps it's the crisp September breeze, I'm not sure, but I just can't seem to shake this melancholy.

Last week, day one, I was able to walk my baby into the school and watch as he walked with his new teachers to their new classroom. Day two I was told to just drop him off at the door and he will be taken care of. It's a great school, I'm at ease with his being taken care of and getting the education he needs but not being able to hold his hand it tugged at my heart strings. Day three I was totally fine when I kept reminding myself to breathe deep and let love.

Today is day four and as I pulled up to the curb I smiled and said, "You are so grown up, not a baby anymore, but I know you know, you will ALWAYS be my baby!" I wasn't thinking about that, it was just a deep sentiment that rose to the surface. I helped him out of the car and I started to walk with him and said, "Okay, you have to go in from here, I love you. Bye." He grabbed my hand and shook his head no gently.

Just like me wanting to nurture him and see him to safety by holding his hand, he too wanted the assurance of his mom. I hugged him walked a little further, kissed him, told him to have a beautiful day. As he walked in he stopped to confirm where he had to go, I snapped a quick picture with my cell phone, from outside and I walked away with a heavy heart and so proud of my little boy.

For me, it's such a delicate dance the one I have to partake in. You know, the dance of coaching, nurturing, mothering, teaching, and LETTING GO. As I drove away in my car I had thought and I prayed that he will always want me to hold his hand and that he will always be confident and strong enough to go alone.

The Miracle Called YOU!

Yesterday, 7.10.14 around noonish, I shared the following on one of my more relevant social media platforms:

I must share.

I was on the phone with an extremely special being, not just special
to me but special in the universe. We were conversing and I was sharing
a story someone shared with me about being blessed with the presence of
our deceased loved ones. I was about to share how a blessing transpired
and a cardinal showed up as they acknowledged the blessing (I choose to
believe Cardinals are signs from our loved ones spirits, they just inform us
that we are not alone...) and at the exact time in my backyard there landed
a cardinal! It was AWE-SOME! I can't begin to tell you the feels (like my
soon to be 17 year old niece says ). It was magical.

Our loved ones die from the physical world, they cease there and they live
forever always in the legacy that is their loved ones.

So blessed.

Please pay attention to the miracles around you and the miracle you are!

The entire interaction got me thinking.

How do I drive home the notion of The True Miracle You are?

How do I illustrate, in simple and understandable terms the power within you?

Take a moment, if you will, stop, breathe deep, close your eyes, breathe deep and put

your hand over your heart. With your hand feel your heart beating within. Open your

eyes and look at yourself in the mirror. Look at yourself with compassionate and loving

eyes.

Look at yourself as you would look at a loved one whom you adore with so much of

your being.

What do you see?

Are you looking within?

Take a deep breathe.

In your mind's eye how do you envision

your being?

Please let me tell you, you are beautiful

beyond measure.

Tell yourself how amazing you truly are.

Believe in the power of you. When you say the words, "I am," pause and always follow

those words with something positive and kind.

You may not know me but one thing I value most is honesty. Honestly you are a gift in the

world NOW it's time to let your light shine.

If not NOW, then When?

The Miracle Called YOU, look in the mirror and acknowledge the Miracle you are.

What I Feel Is What I Oughta Feel

I dropped off my son at school this morning and his teachers gave me this trio of goodness.

I got a teapot invitation to a Mother's Day Brunch with my son and his class. A bag of three flower cookies made by my son. A plant created from pinto beans that my son planted in school two weeks ago. How awesome is that!?!

I gave him a hug for all the gifts, said thank you to his teachers and went to my car. When I put my car in drive I looked at these three simply and amazing expressions of love and it brought a smile and a tear.

I had to take a picture of it.

I thought, "Wow it was only eight months ago I dropped him off at school and had to pause in the car for a moment to send him light and positive energy so he wouldn't feel such anxiety for me leaving." The first week of school was okay cause he was only there for a couple of hours but the second week was tortuous, for the both of us. My little boy is growing up and I'm growing up right along with him. I said a silent prayer, took a few deep breathes, thanked the universe for this experience and awareness and began to drive.

As I approached the stop sign I turned on the radio which was connected to my iPod and "Amor Eterno" begins to play. At first I smiled, shook my head a bit from side to side and then had to pull over. See the song is about a deep loss; an intense desire to not have lost a loved one who has closed their eyes and transitioned to the spirit world.

The circle of life is a powerful and amazing roller coaster, a one of a kind experience for each of us. My Abuelito, My Dear Grandfather, passed away earlier this year. I felt that loss deep in my soul. I know he's Gone physically from our lives and I also know he lives in my heart, he lives in my soul. The Truth is this awareness doesn't change the sense of loss, the heaviness of it. I do stand in gratitude for gifts I have received. I'm grateful my little boy got to meet my Abuelito and I'm even more grateful my grandfather got to meet me, the mom. I cried like a baby. I have shed many tears over my grandfather's passing but there have been only two occasions, today and another one last month, that I have been able to sit in the sadness and allow it to help me heal the pain. I know grandpa is with me, for that I am grateful. I know my son is growing and becoming more and more independent and for that I am melancholic and also grateful.

I cried, I acknowledged what I was feeling, honored it, and let it go. Once I let it go I became aware this majestic expression of love and nature, it made brought me joy. The tree elicited a smile on my face and in my heart. See this tree's blossom only lasts about two weeks, if that. The flowers are delicate and quite appealing; they must be enjoyed and appreciated for the time they exist, they blossom, the go away, and they return. It's the circle of life. Having compassion for myself and my emotions is huge part of my life's current purpose. Today I thank Professor Rosenfield of Communications 101 at Queens College, over twenty years ago for articulating for me the concept of , "What I Feel Is What I Oughta Feel."

I Speak For Myself

Often times when I am in a space of denial I look to everywhere else to point out what isn't working. It's challenging many times to look in the mirror and realize that the sadness or the frustration comes from within. Even the Love comes from within.

Currently I'm experiencing an annoyance, I was about to crack. See I inadvertently was exposed to someone's toxic lack of self love and I called one of my confidants to share my thoughts, my emotions, my frustration with what I was perceiving. The information I was receiving isn't new information, it isn't even relevant to my life and for some reason, some seemingly uncontrollable reason my feathers were ruffled.

My confidant asked why it bothered me in anyway cause I should already be aware of the source and it doesn't merit my energy. My response was simple when someone I love is being harassed I feel the need to respond. Thankfully I made the call I made and I was able to pause and realize that everyone has their own story, everyone has their own cross to carry, I need to just go about MY life and not engage in what doesn't keep my soul in harmony.

When a person shows us who they are we should believe them the very first time, I learned this from the great Teacher, Maya Angelou. Instead of being annoyed and angry with this sadly conflicted person I will send them love and light and go on on my merry way (Thanks for that reminder my friend).

Today is my Birthday.

Yesterday I was able to share a moment with several women who inspire me and who I have had the privilege of knowing either half of my

life or my entire life, respectively.

In my 40 Plus years of this amazing life, one thing I have learned to be true for me is I relish, I value, I need to engage and interact with other amazing women. This year, although it's only three months old, has been quite tumultuous for me emotionally, I needed my girl time.

I loved sitting at the table with these human beings, feeling their energy, and looking at the beautiful faces of each and every one of them. Hearing their perspectives, listening to their life experience, learning their hearts, it's truly a gift. Another thing I value is having been able to be in at least one part of their story. It humbles me to have experienced them as players in mine.

Sisterhood is a gift that is absolutely priceless and monumentally essential to the well being of the universe.
We don't have to be biologically related to be sisters.

On my 41st born day I'd like to acknowledge my mother for having the fortitude, love, and determination to allow me to come into this lifetime through her even with all the challenges. Thank you mommy for being! I acknowledge and honor my grandmother, one of my most greatest loves and my constant rock and motivation. I'd like to recognize and share my love and gratitude to my aunts, my cousins, my sisters, my nieces, my daughters, my teachers, my colleagues, my sister-friends who move me and inspire me every day to be. I'd like to lovingly say thank you to my son and his father for being such supporters of my zaniness and for all the light and joy you have all brought to my life.

I thank you, from the depths of my heart and soul.

Relationships are Hard.

Yes, Relationships are Hard.

Being in a relationship is challenging,
not being in a relationship is challenging.

Being in relationship with myself is challenging.

Fruitful, amazing, and rewarding and also challenging.

I don't have it figured out and every moment brings me more clarity as to how intricate being in relationship truly is. It doesn't make it any easier or any less messy, this knowledge I have.

In all honesty I have recently committed to doing lots of mirror work coupled with focusing. This is part of my journey in exploring healing and having compassion for myself. ( I highly recommend it, for me it seemed unnatural initially, now it's become more organic). For More on Mirror Work Click Here and go to Louise Hay's Website. It's Official.

We have registered our child, he will officially be a Kindergartner in September.

WOAH!

To many this is really not a huge deal. To some this is the deal.

For me it brings up so so much.

Letting Go

So the feelings coming up for me with this new chapter are feelings of hope and reality.

The truth is what is coming up for me, MY TRUTH.

I told myself I am fine and everything is fine. For awhile, everything was fine. I'm still fine, just everything is now a little different.

What's your truth? How do you know what is real? What do your hopes consist of? Are you actively participating in the journey? Have you had to let go of something? Where are you right now?

To the man I call Abuelito!

This past week my dear old man, my Abuelito Fausto went home to be with the Lord. As a youngster grandpa grew up in Guayaquil, Ecuador with his parents, brothers, sisters and extended family. Early in life he decided to embark on an adventure and immigrated to New York with his family. Grandpa worked in custodial engineering to support and raise his family. For a greater part of his life, my Abuelito, Don Fausto, as he was lovingly called by all his friends and family, was the unfailing, tried and true President of ”La Liga Deportiva Ecuatoriana de Indoor Futbol,” an Ecuadorian Soccer League in New York City. One of his favorite things to do was pack up the kids, make some sandwiches and walk on over to Shea Stadium to cheer on his beloved Mets. In the early ‘80s Grandpa accomplished one of his greater dreams becoming a home owner in Corona, Queens were he lived until a little under a decade ago. He retired from his jobs at age 65 and later relocated to Florida.

My dear Abuelito was able to create a wonderful life for himself and not only his immediate family but extended family alike. He was very patriotic and had an authentic love for this country he called home and relished in the “American Dream.” Grandpa and I would talk for hours about politics, life experience and of course jokes. Grandpa cracked jokes with the best of them and I had a way of making him cackle, it was endearing. He was always a proud and knowledgeable man. He celebrated life and love in all ways quite often. He was an orator with a talent for eloquent speech. On the day we celebrated my Quinceanera he moved me to tears with the love he relayed in his toast, it was inspired and so sweet. He captivated folks with his warmness and bright light. He welcomed everyone into his home and was truly devoted to his family. His love for his wife and children was unwavering and ardent. My grandpa, Don Fausto will always be remembered as a fun- loving, easy-going, hard-working man who was full of integrity and joy. He gave of himself often and never asked for anything in return, his love is unconditional.

Our dear Grandpa Fausto is survived by his beloved wife my Abuelita, Julia Elena, as well as a host of loving grand-children, great-grand-children, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will always cherish his memory.

I for one intend to always honor your legacy of love.

I love you Abuelito, with my heart and soul.

Going Home

At this moment it all seems so surreal to me.

Intellectually I know it was happening, it's always happening. We are all, always on our
way "home." Everyday brings us closer. The juxtaposition of it all is perplexing and comforting.
I always remember one day in like 2004 or 2005 when mom called me while I was at work to
tell me my grandfather had had a heart attack, it was the first time I ever had the realization that
they won't be in my physical life forever; they being my grandparents. It struck me quite deeply.
I experienced their mortality, it was a true awakening and a blessing cause it made me really
and truly be present with them when I was able to share moments with them.

We all have our own experiences with folks and we recollect them with our own perspectives.
Me, I'm a firm believer that my loved ones live in this world with me, everyday, in spirit. Even
though this is a real thought, a conscious awareness, I still am feeling a deep sadness for
this transition my grandpa is experiencing. It truly is a huge loss and for it to be a huge loss it
has to have been an enormous gain, at least that's my opinion.

The life my Abuelito had was wonderful, full of laughter, fun and tons of love.
Yesterday was one month that we lost one of my dear, dear aunts to cancer. It feels like so
many folks who are dear to me are transitioning. Last year was full of transitions and this year
started with three, right off the cuff. I'm reminding myself every moment to pause, breathe, and
be in gratitude for every experience and every moment....I forget sometimes...

My grandfather has been a very strong presence in my life. I am having a difficult time with
letting him go. I know he's going no matter what and the sorrow runs deep. The amazing part
is how my heart, although it's filled with great melancholy and a heapload of woe, my heart is
smiling because I truly relished in our time together. I pray for your comfort, abuelito. I pray for
peace and serenity in your heart. Always know how greatly loved you have always been. Thank
you for the light you brought into the world. I love you, always.

The Truth Is...

There are so many thoughts and emotions enveloping my mind. When I think and talk about Love and Loss I think about the ebb and flow of it. Loving and losing someone is a challenge for me.
I am going through all the stages of grief and thankfully I have a few tools and an amazing support network.

My grandfather dying...
i am finding it difficult to articulate with words what's transpiring within.
The grief cycle comes to mind and i am fluctuating in it. In and out. Out and in.
This is the very first time in my life that I travel to Florida and it's not for a vacation or to just spend quality time with my old folks.

My grandparents moved to Florida from New York about a decade ago. I've traveled to visit with them about 25 times and one of those years I didn't make it once. When my grandparents decided to move to Florida my heart broke into a million and one pieces, I couldn't breathe, I couldn't eat, I really and truly didn't know what I would do. My grandparents have been my sustenance for most of my life. I have almost always lived with them. I didn't know any different. It was hard. I remember having a conversation with my ex mother in law where she told me that this happens to many families and they just loose touch little by little, not because they want to or fall out of love but because life and distance intervenes. I couldn't and wouldn't accept that as a fact. I refused to. There was no way in heaven I would allow "LIFE" to get in the way of "LOVE."

My relationship with my grandparents is a priority to me. Siting here now and grieving the death of my grandfather I'm overcome with the reality that I've been more prudent in expressing and sharing my love with my grandparents than with my parents. I admittedly take my parents for granted. Don't be confused I appreciate, love, respect and express my gratitude to my parents and to the Lord for their love and for everything they represent, do for and with me and my son but I take it for granted that they will forever be present and love me unconditionally and sometimes I don't even think to call them. I don't visit with my folks as often as I would like. Other things take precedence over spending quality time with them; my grandparents on the other hand get my undivided attention and time. I call my grandmom every day and make it a priority to visit with them as often as possible. I write them letters, I send them photos and recently we've been using social media streams to have video chats. (Ain't No Sunshine When They're Gone!)

I wrote this tiny tribute to my grandfather:
Viejo Mi Querido Viejo.
The title is in Spanish but the essay is in English.
While writing I was reminding of several special moments we shared and several not so special moments, just everyday things that happened.
I truly consider myself blessed for having been able to share and celebrate this life with my Abuelito and my Abuelita. I was able to enjoy him and our relationship for 40 plus years, I know how fortunate I am for this.

In reality the pain I am feeling at this very moment starts from within my core, the pain is for my grandmom's loss. I held her hand tonight as we sat on the couch watching a movie together and I could feel her deep, deep sadness. We both sat quietly watching an action film with tears streaming down our face. I can't begin to imagine the pain she's feeling and the truth is I don't know that I would have the strength she has to stand up so fiercely and face a day without her soul mate, her life partner, her very best friend. How do you continue with a loss that's just so monumental?

I don't have any answers, all I can do is focus on the wonderful magic I experienced through their love. I can stand and gratitude and acknowledge my great fortune, cause I am Fausto & Julia Mieles's GRAND Daughter. The truth, the truth is that alone is an enormous blessing and shall carry through.

12.12.13 DRAFT

I was scheduled to chaperone a school trip today, I was so excited to enjoy a Ballet with my 4 year old and his class. On Tuesday I received a call from the school to say there was a mix up with the tickets and no parents would be chaperoning, just school staff and I would be getting reimbursed for the ticket. They said they were very sorry, I said thank you and hung up.

This morning I dropped him off at school and had forgotten to pack his lunch. Usually when we go on trips we leave together and I take him home to eat or we pick something up on the way. I forgot to pack a lunch cause for some reason I thought I would still be going on the trip. When his teacher apologized for the ticket confusion it hit me, "His first solo school trip!" I thought, wow, I won't be there to enjoy the experience with him, to watch him smiling and frolicking with his peers. And no pictures...

My son lives in my heart, we are part of one another and that notion, that knowledge, that, it makes my soul dance.

He had a wonderful time on the trip. He told me a little bit about (HE SHARED!!!HE SHARED!!!)it and I now have a not so little boy.

Patience and Gratitude

I am participating in the Deepak and Oprah MEDITATION CHALLENGE. I am not on schedule with the meditation postings, I'm on my own schedule...today's MEDITATION was highlighting gratitude. I'm so grateful for the NOW in my life. My life, right NOW is amazing. I am currently waiting at the airport for a flight back home. I am with my four year old and we've been here since 2:05 pm, it is currently 7:43 pm. I am so proud of his patience, I'm grateful for his focus. We will be getting on flight 302 which leaves here at 7:55. We've been bypassed thrice already. This flight looks promising. We didn't get home till the evening time and the whole while waiting, my little one was a true pleasure. I'm grateful for the gifts of patience, awareness, love and compassion.
