Man Posed As Teen To Seduce Underage Girls Online

NEW ORLEANS — Federal prosecutors say a Metairie man is accused of posing as a teenager on social networking Web sites to lure underage girls from Louisiana and Mississippi into having sex with him.

Friday’s indictment also accuses 38-year-old Michael Meany of trading sexually explicit pictures with girls — including one in Maine — and downloading child pornography.

Charges against him include aggravated sexual abuse, coercion and enticement of a minor and producing materials involving the sexual exploitation of a minor. If convicted, he faces a mandatory prison term of at least 30 years, with a maximum of life.

Meany has been in state custody since late October for an alleged violation of probation on a conviction in Tennessee.

Florida Highway Patrol troopers say a two-vehicle crash Tuesday at Mile Marker 21 on Cudjoe Key was caused by a 37-year-old woman driver who was shaving her bikini area while her ex-husband took the wheel from the passenger seat.

“She said she was meeting her boyfriend in Key West and wanted to be ready for the visit,” Trooper Gary Dunick said. “If I wasn’t there, I wouldn’t have believed it. About 10 years ago I stopped a guy in the exact same spot … who had three or four syringes sticking out of his arm. It was just surreal and I thought, ‘Nothing will ever beat this.’ Well, this takes it.”

Chinese Student Killed Roommate Over Snoring

BEIJING — A Chinese college student fed up with his roommate’s snoring, has confessed to stabbing him to death in the middle of the night.

Zhao Yan, 22, was stabbed in the chest and back late last year in his room at Jilin Agricultural University in the northeastern province of Jilin, the official Xinhua News Agency reported Tuesday.

His roommate, 23-year-old Guo Liwei, confessed Monday that he stabbed Zhao because of a dispute over his snoring, the report said, citing the Changchun Intermediate People’s Court.

Guo had previously complained to Zhao about his snoring and posted video of him snoring on a university Web site, which created more tension between the two, Xinhua reported.

“I told Zhao about it and he became angry. He verbally abused me several times, prompting me to kill him,” Guo was quoted as saying by Xinhua.

Guo is currently awaiting sentencing by the court, the report said. Calls to the court rang unanswered Tuesday morning.

Violent crimes have been on the rise in China, especially as the country’s rapid economic development has created a growing rich-poor gap.

Malaysian Teachers Say NO To SEX

Malaysian teachers are saying ”no” to sex. They are not ready to impart sex education in schools.

They lack professional training in teaching the subject, National Union of Teaching Profession (NUTP) secretary-general Lok Yim Pheng said today.

She said, while the union fully supported the government’s move to provide sex education in schools, “sadly, the teachers lack formal training in the complexity and sensitivity of the subject and are not confident to teach it”.

Lok told Bernama the teachers were afraid they might be sued by the parents “if they were to make mistakes in imparting the knowledge of sex to the pupils.”

Malaysia is a multi-racial, religious and cultural nation with each ethnic group having its own notion on the subject, which made the teaching more challenging, she noted.

The NUTP is the country’s biggest teachers union representing 160,000 teachers, which is approximately half the teaching profession.
