Gunman Acting Fail

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — A village watchman in the central Philippines allegedly mistook an actor playing a masked gunman in a British film for a real assassin and fatally shot him, police said Monday.

Watchman Eddie Cuizon tried to accost Filipino actor Kirk Abella late Saturday then shot him as the actor was directed to speed away on a motorcycle with a masked driver, said community police chief Alexis Relado of central Cebu city’s Parian district.

Cuizon, 52, told police he was sleeping and was woken up by a concerned citizen who reported the presence of armed men in his community.

He told police he saw two masked men on a motorcycle and approached them but they sped away and he stumbled as he tried to stop them, injuring his knee. He fired at Abella when the actor pulled out a gun, which turned out to be made of plastic, Relado said.

‘Nobody likes cleaning and everyone likes to look at a good body,’ added the 21-year-old, an alumnus of Charles University in Prague.

Don’t go presuming the agency offers cleaning services by ladies only, by the way – the firm currently has a mixture of 15 male and female students on its books.

And it’s emphatically not sexual in tone, as our friend Katka pointed out: ‘Quite often the people asking for our services are busy business people who want to relax.

‘Watching someone clean your house in underwear is a nice way for them to relax.

‘But this is not a prostitution service, it’s just a cleaning service.’

IVF Fail

A Singapore couple have discovered that their baby conceived through in-vitro fetilisation (IVF) is not biologically theirs – the child’s DNA does not match the father’s.

The Straits Times reported that the couple – a Singaporean Chinese woman and her Caucasian permanent resident husband – were first suspicious when they noticed that their newborn baby’s complexion was noticeably different from theirs.

They were told by doctors at Thomson Fertility Centre – where they sought their IVF treatment – that the baby has type B blood, whereas their blood types are O and A.

It is not possible for a baby to have a different blood group from its parents, say doctors. The baby should have either blood type O or A not B.

The couple’s lawyer, S. Palaniappan told AFP, “They discovered it a few days after the birth of the baby. They wereinformed by the paediatrician that the baby’s blood group is B,” he said.

“So they were a bit surprised because the mother is O and the father is A. Biologically it’s not possible when you have such a combination.”

Raising concerns, the parents and baby then went through a DNA test, which showed that the baby has the mother’s DNA make-up, but not the father’s.

The couple now want answers from the Thomson Fertility Centre and have also sought legal advice.

Palaniappan said his clients, who are looking after the baby, have already informed the Ministry of Health (MOH) about the matter.

MOH is investigating the matter.

THEATRICS have always been part of a fashion show, but as designers vie for more column inches and web clicks, clothes are sometimes playing a supporting role to headline-grabbing gimmicks.

Karl Lagerfeld’s decision to invite former Chanel house model Ines de la Fressange, 53, to star in the label’s Paris runway show on Wednesday certainly turned heads. Lagerfeld’s show was a sartorial success and he also ticked this year’s big trend of using unconventional models.

Ellen DeGeneres swapped comedy for the catwalk in New York and designer Giles Deacon invited the legendary German model Veruschka, 71, to star at his London Fashion Week show. In Paris a pregnant Miranda Kerr took a spin down Balenciaga’s runway, and at Jean Paul Gaultier the size 28 singer Beth Ditto stole the show.

Not everyone was impressed. by the high jinks. British Vogue editor Alexandra Shulman has long been a strong voice in opposition to the use of ultra-thin models and didn’t see Ditto’s appearance as a positive step forward. “Instead of a fuss being made about a few cause celebre exceptions on the catwalk, what I’d really like instead is for more models to be a size 10 rather than a size 8,” she told The Guardian after the Gaultier show.
