Every Sunday at Lam Looking, I was told that that’s what they call the street, you can find people setting up at each side of the street displaying their wares for sale. The term, ‘one man’s trash is another man’s treasure’ really do apply here.

Some are selling antique stuff like old fans and kris, most of them are junks. There is a wide range of things for sale from old NES game cartridge, calculators, rotary phones, old typewriters, some old vinyl records, old hi-fi system, and some funky bottles.

I also saw some car stereo system and mobile phones. These probably are stolen goods. Check out these photos: –

According to certain sources, the reason Azlan, leave Meet Uncle Hussain is due to them having creative differences, Azlan having interpersonal disagreements with the rest of the band. Other sources says that Azlan have been having some discipline issues with the band. Not coming to practice and stuff. I’m not sure of whatever the reason is, so Azlan if you are reading this, get in touch with us, we would love to have an interview, you could clear things up.

One thing for sure, the reason Azlan quit is not because he wants to stop performing or that he wanted to try something different. Azlan & The Typewriter had one single released, ‘Kalibat Si Penyair’. Already this track have been getting some air time on radios.

For those who haven’t heard of Azlan &The Typewriter, you might be easily mistaken that it’s a new Meet Uncle Hussain’s song. What makes Meet Uncle Hussain unique at that time was Azlan’s voice and style, which to me sound like a cross between British band Suede and Placebo. Azlan & The Typewrite sounds exactly as Meet Uncle Hussain. Maybe Azlan’s voice and style is the factor that made Meet Uncle Hussain what they are now, which is a household name.

However, Meet Uncle Hussain are still pretty much alive. I’ve also been told that the band had found a replacement for Azlan and that the replacement sounds exactly like Azlan. It is as if Azlan never had left. I had never seen any of Meet Uncle Hussain performance post Azlan era yet, so I’m not sure.

Both Meet Uncle Hussain and Azlan & The Typewriter will be performing at Rock The World 9.

2. RHYTHM OF 21ST CENTURY

Cuba anda ambil logam dan bentukkan menjadi orang. Susah, bukan? Walaupun logam sudah dipanaskan menjadi bara, bukan calang-calang orang boleh membentuknya menjadi rupa seorang manusia. Namun, Raja Shariman Raja Aziddin bukan saja bisa memahatnya menjadi rupa manusia, malah membentuk arca orang tersebut memegang pedang dan perisai badan seperti perwira di zaman Greek!

Sangat menarik! Jika anda mahu saksikan sendiri kehebatan hasil tangan anak Kuala Kangsar ini, mari ke Galeri Petronas, KLCC. Kali ini bertemakan peperangan, pameran yang tidak mengenakan sebarang tiket kemasukan ini bukan sahaja mempamerkan 20 patung-patung arca, malah 60 buah lukisan terbaru dari kerja seni tangan Raja Shahriman. Oh ya, sudahkah saya beritahu logam-logamnya adalah dari longgokan besi-besi lama?

3. YOUTH FOR CHANGE

Acara yang bertempat di One Utama, Damansara ini adalah bertujuan untuk memancing perhatian remaja-remaja untuk mendaftarkan diri sebagai pengundi-pengundi bagi pilihanraya akan datang. Jika anda sudah pun mendaftarkan diri, itu tidak bermakna tiada sebab untuk anda berada di sana pada 7hb November ini.

Masih ingat kepada projek 15Malaysia? Projek filem-filem pendek yang mendapat sambutan hangat di laman internet ini bakal ditayangkan secara terus-menerus selama 3 jam di acara tersebut bermula jam 1 tengahari. Tidak lupa kepada Bittersweet yang akan menggegarkan kompleks beli-belah tersebut dengan persembahan hangat mereka, konsert mini ini juga akan diserikan dengan persembahan dari kumpulan Couple, Seven Collar T-Shirt, Liyana Fizi, Robot Asmara, Reza Salleh, Ika dan banyak lagi!

4. Kuala Lumpur Metal HardCore Fest 2009

Jika anda mahukan sesuatu yang lebih hangat, Sil Khannaz akan beraksi di Festival Metal Hardcore yang esok, 7 November 2009. Bersama-sama As-Sahar, Cassandra, Restraint, Naratu, Negation dan ramai lagi, kumpulan-kumpulan metal ini akan mula membingitkan One Pub Café bermula jam 1 tengahari.

5. LUST 4 SOME MUSIC SHOWCASE

Anda rindu PureVibracion seperti saya? Ajak teman-teman ke Cloth & Clef pada hari Rabu depan. Hanya dengan tiket berharga RM10, anda juga bakal dihiburkan oleh kumpulan Prana dengan barisan anggota-anggota lama yang pernah dianugerahkan Artis Inggeris Baru Terbaik di AIM 2001.

Malam 11 November 2009 ini akan diserikan lagi dengan persembahan dari Seven Collar T-Shirt. Jadi, bagi mereka yang tidak dapat berkunjung ke Youth For Change nanti, jangan gusar. Seven Collar T-Shirt akan berada di Changkat Bukit Bintang pada hari Rabu depan bagi acara muzik ini dari jam 9pm hingga 2am.

Oh ya, merokok tidak dibenarkan di Cloth & Clef. Terkenal dengan konsep butik, galeri seni dan pentas muzik di bawah satu bumbung, diingatkan juga bahawa Cloth & Clef tidak menerima transaksi menggunakan kad kredit. Jadi, rancang perbelanjaan anda! Dan juga jadual merokok anda?

Mencari Konklusi has seven new tracks including the song Mencari Konklusi which have been getting a lot of air time on radios. Songs included on this album are, 2nd Airwave, Obsesi, Mencari Konklusi, Kau Harus Ada, Benci, Romantik, Sanker Besi Di Hatiku.

The album supposed to showcase a more edgy side of Hujan, however everything on it feels like I’ve heard it before. Nothing new or different from all the previous Hujan’s songs. It’s the same formula. It is as if, songs in this album are songs that didn’t make it on their first album.

However, as I wrote before, Hujan is best experienced live. Their studio recording stuff is sub-par compare to their live performance. The song feels too polished. I’ve always prefer their early Eps, ‘1,2,3, go’ and ‘Check Check Rock Rock’.

Which is why it’s good to know that Hujan is currently busy on tour all around Malaysia promoting the album. They final concert for their Mencari Konklusi tour will be in Kuala Lumpur, 22nd November 2009, 3PM at KL Live (1st Floor, Life Center, Jalan SUltan Ismail)

Interesting to note that Zee Avi is among the line up. Both Meet Uncle Hussain and Azlan & The Typewriter will be there. From Second Combat to Otam, expect to see a wide range of music genre on Sunway Lagoon this December.

What are your thoughts on the line up so far?

Papadom is a simple story that anybody could relate to. It’s a story about Saadom, a loving husband and also a hardworking father. In his quest to make a better living for his wife and daughter by expanding his Nasi Kandar empire, he had neglect to spend time with his daughter.

It all changed when his wife died in a car accident. Saadom then turns into a dependable father but is a little bit over-protactive of his only daughter, Mia Sara. He tries to get involved in every aspect of his daughter’s life. Things then get more hectic when Mia Sara went to collage.

Saadom then pretended to be a gardener in order to get a job as the collage’s gardener so that he can still keep a close eye on his daughter without the her knowing. Think Robin Williams in Mrs. Doubtfire.

It’s a heart-warming, emotional, tear-jerking movie with a lot of funny scenes and dialogs. You can’t help to feel emotional and laugh out loud at the same time. I think that’s the genius behind this film.

Critics says that Papadom is just like all the other previous Afdlin’s film. Yes there are some plot holes in the movie that Afdlin might overlooked. For example, the posting of SPM results on the school bulletin board and among other thing. The way I look at it is that this is not a film based fully on reality, if it is then you wont have the Saadom’s dead wife appearing and giving him advice.

Small plot holes are forgiven and it’s there to drive the plot forward. In this Afdlin’s little own make belief world, a world where a simple papadom can be marketed as far as Dubai, SPM results are posted on the school’s bulletin board.

See this film and you’ll have a better understanding of why this film won five major awards at the recent Malaysian Film Festival, Best Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Score and Best Original Story. All of the cast were perfectly casted. Afdlin as Afdlin is, played Saadom very well, Liyana Jasmay did a good job too being Mia Sara, Que Haidar played an entertaining the geeky film student and the rest of the cast did their job well.

Papadom to me is Afdlin Shauki’s best work yet. This film proved that you don’t have to make a controversial film just to sell it. If I were Afdlin right now, I would be worried thinking about what’s next, how would one top Papadom? Then again fortunately I am not Afdlin, and I’m pretty sure he already got something up his sleeves to wow us next.

If you still haven’t watch Papadom, go and watch it now while it’s still showing in cinemas.

Mengapa anda harus tonton Teater Muzikal Cuci? Adakah kerana Hans Isaac memukau hadirin dengan suara misterinya mendendangkan lagu sentimental? Adakah kerana jarang-jarang prop lif didirikan di atas pentas? Atau pun kerana benar terdapat gondola naik turun di atas pentas menyaksikan detik romantik percintaan watak-watak yang dilakonkan oleh Vanida Imran dan Hans Isaac?

Saya mungkin tidak dapat memberikan satu, dua atau tiga jawapan sahaja. Walaupun mungkin ada yang nampak kurang sempurna, namun terdapat banyak aspek-aspek dominan lain dalam Teater Muzikal Cuci ini yang tampak hebat.

Mesej tersiratnya membuatkan saya bangga terhadap penulis skrip, Harith Iskander dan Douglas Lim. Muzik olahan Rudi Muhammad membuatkan saya terangguk-angguk mengikut rentak lagu-lagunya. Dan aksi suspen di penghujung cerita ini membuatkan saya bertanya soalan karut kepada penonton di sebelah, awak nampak apa yang terjadi itu? Satu kelip mata sahaja akan menyebabkan anda terlepas detik cemas ini!

Bukan suatu yang mudah untuk membuatkan orang ketawa. Jenaka tidak dapat diulang guna. Tiada yang ketawa tika sudah dapat mengagak lawak yang ingin disampaikan. Tambahan lagi jika jenaka secara langsung di atas pentas. Sangat berisiko. Jika lawak anda tidak menjadi, tiada peluang kedua. Penonton-penonton sama ada akan menguap dan senyum sinis, atau terpinga-pinga. Tiada ruang untuk menjelaskan lawak anda.

Namun semua itu bagai nampak mudah untuk Hans Isaac, Awie, AC Mizal, Afdlin Shauki, Harith Iskander, Ramli Hassan dan Adibah Noor. Dengan aksi spontan, segar dan bersahaja, panggung Istana Budaya ternyata gamat setiap malam dengan hilai tawa penonton-penonton! Saya sendiri sudah berulang kali fikir untuk pergi menonton kali kedua!

Oh ya, untuk pengetahuan ringkas, ruang duduk di Istana Budaya hanya membenarkan anda duduk dengan lutut bertemu kerusi di hadapan anda, atau dalam erti kata lain, ruang kaki yang kecil. Jika ada yang ingin ke tempat duduk sebelah anda, anda harus bangun untuk memberikan laluan – bukan sekadar mengalihkan sedikit kaki anda seperti di panggung Golden Screen Cinema, tetapi bangun dan berdiri, menaikkan tempat duduk anda dan mengambil satu langkah ke belakang.

Saya bangun dan duduk lebih empat kali sepanjang pementasan kerana kelewatan beberapa penonton. Bukan sahaja saya yang terganggu dengan kelewatan anda, malah penonton-penonton di belakang dan di sepanjang barisan tempat duduk saya juga terlepas beberapa detik sebanyak empat kali. Jika mahu gelak pun, terpaksa batalkan niat untuk bangun berdiri, kerana anda lewat. Bukan sahaja di awal pementasan, malah selepas waktu rehat.

Jadi, mohon rancang jadual harian dan perjalanan anda sebelum berkunjung ke Istana Budaya walau untuk sebarang bentuk persembahan pentas. Kelewatan anda barangkali tiada maafnya. Walaupun peraturan Istana Budaya tidak membenarkan penonton yang lewat untuk memasuki panggung sehingga waktu rehat, namun jika anda bernasib baik, anda mungkin hanya terlepas beberapa minit pertama persembahan. Atau mungkin juga sudah sampai masanya untuk anda dapatkan jam tangan yang baru?
