Jicaro Community Project: Playground for children at Padre Nello School

The Padre Nello’s school children on Granada Isletas are very happy again, having a renovated playground to now enjoy! Children’s games are one of the most important environments for children in school to develop social skills. Most forms of play are essential for healthy development, where they can play freely and spontaneously. Jicaro Island Eco Lodge continues to develop projects through its sustainability program to improve education for children in Nicaragua.

Recent guests at Jicaro Island Eco Lodge, Rhonda and her husband Lyle, visited Padre Nello School to give students school supplies that will be very important for their education. This is one of the schools that Jicaro works with to develop the sustainability program of the hotel and to improve education for our local children.

Rhonda and Lyle are also love nature. So, they went kayaking to explore these beautiful islands and observe the many different species of birds. Rhonda was kind to share her beautiful photographs with us.

Thinking of visiting Nicaragua? Would you like a personal glimpse into a part of this beautiful country?

As a professional photographer, yoga teacher and lover of travel, I had the unique privilege of going to Central America for the first time for a week to teach yoga, explore the sites in and around the serene eco-lodge of Jicaro on Lake Nicaragua, and of course do lots of photography!

Here is a small photo book I put together of my trip which includes the wonderful people I met, the nature and landscapes, the culture and artwork, accents and details, and of course, the unforgettable and most comfortable stay I had at the island eco-resort of Jicaro!

Celebrating Earth Day in Nicaragua

Earth Day has been celebrated here in Nicaragua for many years. But this time, we had more participation from different local organizations. Many organized various activities in cities across the country to create more awareness for the people on how to care for our planet. Waste recollection campaigns, reforestation, ecological marathons and other activities have been promoted for the preservation of our planet. Here at Jícaro Island Ecolodge, school girls and boys participated in the reforestation of their school grounds.
