Last night the talented Melissa Etheridge performed in front of a fun and friendly crowd. Old and new tunes filled the air as the sun set in a perfect intimate setting at the Athletic Club of Bend.

I had the pleasure of being able to see Melissa through my lens. Here is what I saw.

The Great Blue Heron, Smith Rock State Park.

It was 8am and not long after the trek down a step trail into Smith Rock State Park, that I spotted my first new friend.

I know he was aware of me as I positioned myself slightly upstream from where he was perched on a perfect, slimy green rock.

The Great Blue Heron is a majestic sight. This stately heron with its subtle blue-gray plumage, stood motionless as it scanned for prey and later waded belly deep with long, deliberate steps. He moved slow but when the long awaited moment came, this Great Blue Heron struck like lightning and grab a fish. It took almost an hour before I was blessed to capture this amazing moment. Patience paid off! While waiting for him to obtain breakfast my camera and I became absorbed with his bodily details and movements.

Eventually he went on with his day and I thanked him and headed off down trail to find my next new friend. I was satisfied and gratefully to this Heron who let me connect with him.

Last week, I made it over to the Portland area to walk amongst and photograph thousands of tulips. The early morning light, no wind and plenty of color made it superb! Here are some of my favorite shots to feast on.

Cricket comes to Bend, Oregon! { Bend, Oregon Pet Photographer}

It was an absolute treat this week to meet this sweet little girl called Cricket who has only known a life of been caged and being used for breeding. Cricket is 6 years old and has been living in a puppy mill for all of her life – not a life any dog wishes for.

Her new adopted family Stacie and Greg, found Cricket through the organization called National Mill Dog Rescue. Cricket was flown here this week and is now getting use to living a normal life as a dog.

As you can imagine Cricket has lots to learn, such as being on a leash, the smells and wonders of the outdoors. All is going well so far, she loves people and now knows what a big cozy bed is and to be held in trusting human arms.

Thank you to this awesome organization who is helping to rescue, rehabilitate and re-home discarded breeding dogs and educate the general public about the cruel realities of the commercial dog breeding industry.

A big thanks to Stacie and Greg who are giving Cricket a new and loving life in Bend.

Meet seven year old Charli, she was the lucky winner of my recent I LOVE BEND, OR photo session giveaway. Charli went full steam and was in heaven with all the available sticks and mud. She and her parents had fun and I am sure took a nap when they got home from our session.

Matisyahu Live in Bend, Oregon, 2014 { Bend, Oregon, Music Photographer}

Former Bendite, Matisyahu best known as the Hasidic Jewish Rapper, performed in Bend at the Domino Room for a sold out crowd of fans. Matis shared several of his songs from his new album, AKEDA and finished up with his hit song “One Day”.

I was selected to photograph Matisyahu and was expecting to squeeze on the stage for some shots. However the stage was tight which meant shooting from in the crowd. Fortunately people were kind and I positioned myself behind some young fans along the stage front. I shot the entire show, changed out lenses a few times and definitely found I had to shoot tight to get decent photos due to the lighting.

I had a few minutes after the show to meet Matis and give him an I LOVE BEND, OR sticker which he was excited to have.

I have a feeling Matishayu will be back in Bend during his next tour.
