The project head, Jacq, and subhead, Krizia were under a lot of pressure to come up with an exciting theme. A lot of ideas came up until the sisses finally agreed on this year's theme - Superheroines.

So what is Project Prodyek exactly?

Project Prodyek is a fashion design and pageant-type competition (similar to Project Runway) headed by members of Medical Union for Service during the MedWeek. It is an environmental oriented activity, as the participants' costumes should be made primarily from recycled materials.

Since this project aims to promote environmental awareness, it also involves a trash drive. The trash drive is a contest among the 10 sections in the College of Medicine of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila.

Trash Drive Poster by Jenn

Project Prodyek Poster by Jenn

The project would not have been a success without the help of all the sisses, both active members, and alumni as well as the brods who helped in the technicals during the event.

Here are pictures of the awesome costumes made by each section in the College of Med:

A 9 in round cake originally valued at P640 for half the price!

It was my first time to try the Death by Tablea since I went for Chocolat's other scrumptious cakes during my previous visits. My sister and I purchased a voucher, supposedly for Mother's day. The very many orders however, made the dates surrounding mother's day fully booked so we had to postpone getting the cake.

The yummy Death By Tablea Cake from Chocolat

We settled for a date between Mother's day and Father's day ( a clever way of saving, in my opinion). It was our first time to buy a cake for our parents and here are a few snippets of their reactions:

Mom: What cake did you get?
Jill: The Death by Tablea one
Mom: Huh? Why'd you get that. It sounds scary 'DEATH' by Tablea.
Jill: (laughing)

Dad: Wow, first time that you gave us a cake
Mom: I think I'm going to cry.
Jacq and I: (laughing)

The cake was a hit to everyone at home! I wish there was a nearer branch where I live, though. :)

Other people have excuses, they took on summer jobs for a little extra money. I mean, we are going to be dependent on our parents for about another 4 years so working during breaks can give a sense of fulfillment, somewhat.

I still haven't met up with my highschool friends, BRAINS friends, and 2 groups of college friends (my duty group and people-from-my-college-who-took-up-medicine-as-well-group). It's quite difficult to schedule such things when some have work and other commitments.

On the bright side, I have attended a medical as well as a couple surgical missions this summer break, and there's bound to be more.

Now let's just break down a 'to do list' for the remaining days of summer:

Go out of town, even if it's just somewhere near like Laguna

Get the necessary books for 2nd year

Go shopping

Eat at a couple of never tried restos

See friends

Watch a movie (my last one after Alice was HP 7.1)

Wow is that it? I'm lame. Hahaha.

It was organized by our org in participation with the barangays in Pandacan, Manila. There were so many patients, and because we started late I don't think we were able to treat everyone. Some kids were deferred because it would be difficult/painful for them if we continue the procedure while some backed out of their own accord due to their anxieties.

Here I am with my 2nd or 3rd patient. I guess one mistake was not sitting down. The low tables coupled with the continuous standing hurt my back. Right now, it still hurts, making me feel like an old person.

I had such fun even though it was quite hot and humid that day! Looking forward to the next surgical missions.

Also, I get a chance to use my RN status in a medical outreach coming up in two weeks. Exciting!

Random thoughts:

1. People in relationships shouldn't have to be reminded that they're in one.

2. I should really schedule my meet-ups with HS, college, duty group, and BRAINS friends.

3. I have to go to my dentist/mom. Hahaha. (I'm deathly afraid of dentists).

She told us about her medschool days, she was a hardworking student, focused on the academic side of things than in the social. Surprisingly, she said that she regretted not joining a sorority.

Before I entered med school I never entertained the idea of joining a Greek letter organization. The stories about initiation rites were enough to make me stay out of such things. Surprisingly, I am now an active member of such an organization. Was there any physical hazing in our sorority? No, but it doesn't mean that what we went through to join wasn't difficult. Truly, when you work hard for something, you learn to value it more.

One of my sisses said something to me and a couple other sisses that really struck me. She unfortunately, has to transfer schools and of course, separation anxiety will be a factor. What she said was something like this, "Okay lang sana kung classmates lang yung iiwan ko, pero ang hirap pag kayo kasi iba." The bond of sisterhood is truly different. In med school where stress levels go up frequently, you have to have a support system, and sisses (and brods) will always be there.

As I stated in another post, my org has helped me become less shy. I got to dance in front of an audience (oh the horror!), talk in front of an audience, walk in a fashion show, initiate conversations with people we didn't know (daunting for shy-types like me haha), etc. It is the org's way of cultivating potentials in their members.

Most medical sororities and fraternities are service oriented. One of my favorite projects was our org's Adopt-a-Child, wherein we spend a day with less fortunate children and make them feel the Christmas season. Another, more common service provided by orgs are medical and surgical missions. I haven't been to one as a medical student, and I'm excited for my first one this weekend. ;)

My favorite project last year.

Still, it amuses me when people won't believe that I'm in a Greek letter org. Wala ba talaga sa itsura? Hahaha.

It has been almost an entire month since school ended, and I have only just finished fixing and organizing my transcriptions for the school year. Obviously, Physiology took the bulk of my time; my handouts were scattered among 3 envelopes hahaha. I was amused with how many transes I had that had very little or no highlights. Really, with all the things you have to read, books, notes, transes, handouts, one must really know which to prioritize. Now I feel that I am truly finished with first year and I'm looking forward with much excitement and some anxiety for the next school year.
How can they not? Jobs here are not abundant, at least in the urban setting. If ever they do manage to land jobs here through connections or hardwork, the pay is not good.

So here I find myself, gradually bidding my college friends goodbye (or should I say 'see you later?') as they one by one embark on life abroad. We are 8 in our group of friends (2 of which are not included in the drawing below). The first, S, left March 2010. Second, J/firewoman, left sometime in April. J and G, the 2 who aren't in the drawing are in the provinces of Pangasinan and Iloilo, respectively. While M works at a city hospital and V is busy with a job that is far from nursing. Jacq and I are of course, busy with med school.

M is leaving this June to work abroad. This means that there are only 4 of us in Metro Manila (since J from Pangasinan has recently moved back to Manila). The thought saddens me immensely.

In the 10 months that encompassed my first year I have learned so much and I have done so many things that I did not think I would be able to do.

I must really try organizing my past transes, books, and notes. It has been more than two weeks since summer break started, and I still haven't had the enthusiasm to fix my stuff.

Due to limited funds, it is essential that we maintain our scholarship status in PLM. Thankfully, both Jacq and I were able to meet the grade requirement. Here's hoping we are able to keep this up until graduation!

You also took up loads of our time. I shan't forget that bloody FCM exam. Computations for 2 hours. X_X Histology, I don't really know if I learned enough from you. Neuroanatomy, you made me rethink my dream of becoming involved in neurology. Hahaha.

Orglife

I was never very active in college or highschool. I planned to change that in medschool, and here I am now, part of three organizations. I am very thankful for the people I have met through these orgs. Being in an org can at times be hectic, what with all the studying med students have to do. However, if you can balance your time well, it should not be a hindrance.

Two of my orgs were 'academic' in nature (supposedly), and one was non-academic (it was more of a religious org). The latter was not very demanding in terms of time, and so I have unfortunately neglected my duties as a member come the 2nd semester, scheduling conflicts mainly the culprit (since class scheds change per sem in PLM). It is my plan. however, to make it up to this org and be more active next school year.

My two other orgs have shaped me to become less shy. I never thought I'd dancein front of an audience, and yet I did so with my dear sisses last September during the medweek. I then I again danced in front of an audience with my dearest classmates in December. :-O Truly a milestone for someone who has no dancing capabilities like me. I also was able to be part of the organizing committee of a huge party and walked in our org's fashion show. Tormenting for a pseudo-shy type.

First year went by so quickly, and our upperclassmen say that the next years will pass by swifter than the first. So medschool, in spite of all the difficulties we all feel, is like a breeze then? Hahaha.

We had our practicals in Histology and Anatomy and our long exams for Biochem, Neuroana, and Anatomy earlier this month. Tomorrow will be the dreaded Physio exam!

I managed to pass all my tests for now, but sad to say, I only barely passed the exams since the college of medicine does not transmute grades. Like in Biochem, a raw score of 38/50 is pasang-awa at 76% :((
Hopefully, we'll be able to pull up our grades.

We've had reportings, quizzes, exams, conferences, etc. It's still not as tiring as what we would experience in the years to come, but I remember the first few days and the horror of the adjustment period. It was particularly harder since we had some "extracurricular activities" that we had to fulfill along with our study duties.

I've never been active in extracurricular organizations, I settle for being a class officer since it's less toxic since there are less responsibilities. However, I resolved to be more active this time around so I can improve my time management skills as well as my interpersonal skills. Now I'm part of 2/3 organizations (I'm not really sure if I would count the alliance thing as a separate org hence the slash) in our school. Yay! Haha.

As I have other responsibilities at the moment, I cannot make this post more comprehensive (something I would probably regret when I read back on my posts in a few years) Hehe.

It is something I ponder on every once in a while. The thought comes to me in times when people around me are being quite difficult, or when I feel too lazy to stand up and get something I need/want, among others.

Of course, I would love to be able to do all the spells, but let's narrow it down to ten.

Note: I will pseudo-cheat on this list by counting spell/counter spells as one. :)

1. The Summoning Charm (Accio) and the Banishing Charm
Think about how easy getting a glass of water or a bag from the table would be would this spell!

Art by Lightbulb-101 of deviantart.com

2. Legilimens
The mind reading spell. I would so love to do this spell to some people, nonverbally of course so they don't know what's happening. Still, reading minds has its disadvantages. Sometimes we might not like what we'll see, as Harry felt when he saw part of Snape's worst memory.

Art by ildi of deviantart.com

3. Imperio
Whenever my younger sister makes a lot of noise when I want to sleep, read, or something, I get urges to use this spell to make her shut up. Of course, the Silencio spell could be used, but with the Imperius curse, I can make virtually anyone do what I want aside from shutting people up! Haha.

Art by pettyartist of deviant art

4. Apparition spell
With the Apparition (and Disapparition) spell, I would probably never be late again. It would also be helpful if I can't find a good bathroom wherever I am, or when I get food cravings. Think about how much I'll save on travel expenses!

5. Stupefy and Rennervate
This spell would be useful in frightful situations such as getting held-up/mugged, attacked, or whatever. I prefer this over the killing curse, Avada Kedavra, because it just leaves the person unconscious and not, well, dead.

Art by icy-blue-rae of deviantart.com (Evan Rosier gets hit by a Stunning Spell)

6. Disillusionment Charm
This charm when done correctly can make the individual chameleon-like. Dumbledore casts the spell so well that he does not need an Invisibility Cloak to become 'invisible'

7. Episkey
A spell that fixes cuts, bruises, broken noses, etc. I doubt that it would be very useful for major ailments, but still, it's useful!

8. Reparo
For people like me who breaks stuff often, Reparo is the way to go!

9. Obliviate
A spell that can erase or modify memories that is perfect for people who have frequent screw-ups in the social department. If I could do this spell I'd track out several people to erase a few memories.

Gilderoy Lockhart casts the Obliviate spell with Ron's faulty wand.

10. Protego
Another spell that could be used for harmful situations. The Shield Charm can keep would-be attackers at bay.

A funny piece of art from hedwig794 of deviantart.com

Special mentions:
-Scourgify, the charm for cleaning up messes
-Levicorpus and Liberacorpus (For magically hoisting up people by their legs, an alternative to Stupefy wherein the target does not become unconscious)

-That spell they use to make small spaces accommodate large amounts of objects!

I'm too lazy to really describe everything that happened so I think a bulleted list would suffice.

Waiting for the professor at Forum Hall with most of our classmates

Feeling quite sick, so I decided to go and find Jacq (who went outside) to tell her I was going home

Saw two of our classmates, who told me that the professor was waiting for us for over an hour at the Histo Lab.

Histology orientation/house rules + lecture on the Cell

PMS Giveaway Thingy

Lunch @ the canteen (In fairness, the food is good, just a bit pricey)

Saying hi to a friend in Section C, not noticing that they were sitting across the CM office

Getting the physio list thing and passing the 2 to sec A and B

FCM lecture + an assignment. :S

Meeting a pmd friend

Riding a jeep from PLM to somewhere near Rob with 4 classmates + Jacq

This is a very random post, but it has been nagging on my mind for a few days now so I have to write this down.

I'm not a very mushy person in real life. I find touchy-feely and sickly sweet couples disturbing like most of my NBSB friends, but I do love reading love stories in literature. Still, a book that is in the romance genre does not get my complete attention. For example, I had to really push myself to finish 'By The River Piedra I Sat Down and Wept' by Paulo Coelho. I prefer the love stories in those books that deal with fantasy and action, something where the love story isn't the main focus of the novel. That is also (usually) how I prefer it as well in movies, except for fairytale inspired movies, that is.

Anyway, here are 10 of my favorite fictional 'ships' in no particular order. :) I'm not into slash and 'delusional' shippings so these are all canon.

1.) Beauty and the Beast

Among the Disney fairytales, I loooove Belle and the Beast's love story. They did not fall in love at first sight (as in Snow White, Little Mermaid [for Ariel, at least], and Sleeping Beauty [not counting the christening scene]). They even had a really nice song about their getting to like each other [search: Something There]. Plus, Belle is my favorite Disney Princess, she's bookish, beautiful, and brave!

She glanced this way, I thought I saw... And when we touched, she didn't shudder at my paw. No, it can't be; I'll just ignore... But then, she's never looked at me that way before... - Sung by the Beast, Something There

2. Hermione and Ron

By jaerie at deviantart.com

My favorite Harry Potter ship is the love-hate duo of Ron and Hermione. I love those little hints JK put in that showed their feelings for each other early on. I'm still boggled by the Harry-Hermione shippers who are book readers. I mean come on!!!

All's fair in love and war, mate, and this is a little bit of both - Ronald Weasley

3. Faramir and Eowyn

 By kame_urashima of deviantart.com

I did not know that these two had a fan site. Even though their part in the story was short, and although the lady thought she loved another before realizing she loved Faramir, this is another favorite ship of mine. A synopsis of their story can be read here if you haven't or don't plan to read the LOTR.

'Then must I leave my own people, man of Gondor?' she said. 'And would you have your proud folk say of you: "There goes a lord who tamed a wild shieldmaiden of the North! Was there no woman of the race of Númenor to choose?"'
'I would,' said Faramir. And he took her in his arms and kissed her under the sunlit sky, and he cared not that they stood high upon the walls in the sight of many. And many indeed saw them and light that shone about them as they came down from the walls and went hand in hand to the Houses of Healing.

4. Dimitri and Anya/Anastasia

As with Beauty and the Beast, I love the 'not-love-at-first-sight' storyline. Coincidentally, they also have a song about finding out they like each other (search: At the Beginning with You). Dimitri is also well-drawn for a cartoon man. HAHAHA.

Anastasia: I feel a little... dizzy.
Dimitri: Kind of... light-headed?
Anastasia: Yeah...
Dimitri: Me too. Probably from all the spinning.
[they stop dancing]
Dimitri: Maybe we should stop.
Anastasia: We have stopped.

5. Patrick Verona and Kat Stratford

Who can say no to Heath Ledger? He is so swoon-worthy in this movie. Their chemistry is great and their banter is witty!

Patrick: Hey there girly. How you doin'?
Kat Stratford: Sweating like a pig actually and yourself?
Patrick: Now there's a way to get a guy's attention huh?
Kat Stratford: My mission in life. But, obviously I struck your fancy so you see it worked. The world makes sense again.

This makes me want to watch the TV series based on the movie. :)

6. Garret and Kayley from Quest for Camelot

A knight's daughter and a blind hermit of the forest go on a quest and although it is quite cliche, they fall for each other along the way. :)

Kayley: You *saved* my life! Thank you!
Garrett: Well, everyone makes mistakes sometimes.
Kayley: Oh, I get it. This is where King Arthur sends his unfunny jesters, right?
Garrett: And now I'll thank you...
Kayley: For what?
Garrett: For reminding me why I'm a hermit. Good day!

7. Disney's Hercules and Megara

Art by mareishon of deviantart.com

Megara gets to sing what is in my opinion, one of the best Disney songs ever! If you haven't seen or heard Won't Say I'm In Love, please look for it on youtube. :) I loved this movie because it's based on Greek mythology (very, very loosely, though).

People do crazy things, when they're in love.

8. Simba and Nala

Art by mareishon of deviantart.com

Simba is one of my cartoon crushes. It's probably weird to have one let alone, an animal character, but Simba is really swoon-worthy. Haha, please don't think I'm psychotic. The quote below occurred when Nala found her cubhood friend, Simba after several years.

Simba: Listen, you think you can just show up and tell me how to live my life? You don't even know what I've been through!
Nala: I would if you just tell me!

9. Mulan and Li Shang

Imagine thinking someone was of the same gender, getting to really like that person, then finding out that he/she is of the opposite sex, masquerading otherwise to prevent harm to a loved one. Shang, like Simba is another 'cartoon crush' of mine. I especially love the I'll Make a Man Out of You number.

The Emperor of China: The flower that blooms in adversity is the most rare and beautiful of all.
Shang: Sir?
The Emperor of China: You don't meet a girl like that every dynasty.

10. Cristina Yang and Preston Burke

I think there is no explanation necessary as to why I like this coupling aside from the quote that follows. This quote is Preston Burke's would-have-been wedding vows to Cristina Yang. If you're a fan of Grey's Anatomy, you know what happens. :|

Christina, I could promise to hold you and to cherish you. I could promise to be there in sickness and in health. I could say ’till death do us part. But I won’t. Those vows are for optimistic couples. The ones full of hope. And I do not stand here, on my wedding day, optimistic or full of hope. I am not optimistic, I am not hopeful. I am sure, I am steady, and I know. I am a heart man: I take them apart, I put them back together. I hold them in my hands. I am a heart man. So this, I am sure. You are my partner, my lover, my very best friend. My heart, my heart, beats for you. And on this day, the day of my wedding, I promise you this: I promise you to lay my heart in the palm of your hand. I promise you ME.

The main ride attraction of the theme park is the Forbidden Journey, where the queue itself is a part of the attraction. The line goes through the interior of Hogwarts castles, passing Dumbledore's office, the Potions classroom and other areas of interest.

Here is the storyline of the Forbidden Journey ride copied from http://thewizardingworldofharrypotter.tumblr.com/

Hogwarts has, for the first time, opened its doors to muggles. Dumbledore greets you, and invites you to sit in on a DADA class. There, the trio sees you and takes you off course under their invisibility cloak, because of course. After a chat with the Four Founders and the Sorting Hat, you’ll board the ride and continue on the trio’s adventure. From there, of course, everything goes horribly wrong.

I hate rollercoasters and other dangerous rides, luckily there is a queue for those who wish to see the interior of Hogwarts but don't want to go on the ride. (Although, the experience won't be complete). Hopefully, by that time and by some miracle I will be brave enough to go to all the rides (and financially capable enough to buy all the merchandise I want!)

Above is the menu for the three broomsticks. Reviews from the Leacky Cauldron and Mugglenet have made me more eager to go to the WWoHP just for the food! JK herself chose the butterbeer recipe, you know! Ah, but look at the prices! Due to lack of funds, I think I will be going to the WWoHP when I'm 30 or older, after I've managed to persuade or rather encourage my future children to be as fanatical about HP as I am.

You are more introverted than extroverted. You are more intuitive than observant, you are more thinking based than feeling based, and you prefer to have a plan rather than leaving things to chance. Your type is best described by the word "mastermind", which belongs to the larger group called rationals. Only 1% of the population shares your type. You are very strong willed and self-confident. You can hardly rest until you have things settled. You will only adopt ideas and rules if they make sense. You are a great brainstormer and often come up with creative solutions to difficult problems. You are open to new concepts, and often actively seek them out.

As a romantic partner, you can be both fascinating yet demanding. You are not apt to express your emotions, leaving your partner wondering where they are with you. You strongly dislike repeating yourself or listening to the disorganized process of sorting through emotional conflicts. You see your own commitments as self-evident and don't see why you need to repeat something already expressed. You have the most difficulty in admitting your vulnerabilities. You feel the most appreciated when your partner admires the quality of your innovations and when they listen respectfully to your ideas and advice. You need plenty of quiet to explore your interests to the depth that gives you satisfaction.
I'm done with the pre-registration at PLM, but I'm still lacking some requirements (TOR and GMC). Our enrollment is scheduled on June 4. I wonder if they'll release the 2nd list of applicants by then. I hope they do! There are a number of people not in the first list who freaking deserve to be there! I don't understand why they would let applicants take the required additional units if they don't intend to accept them.

Back to the pre-reg, that day was another hot and humid day. I had to wait for an hour and a half because the school physician would entertain the pending students at 3pm only. Luckily, had someone to talk to by the Health Services after a while. Meanwhile, Jacq, who was already cleared to enroll, stayed outside the CM office with another upperclassman. She was able to play with this really cute puppy. Me = envious. The process was short though since there were no more lines when I was done with the Health Services thing. We were finished before 4pm meaning we spent 3 hours at PLM.

We also found out that we are in Section D. It's quite saddening that we won't be classmates with Kat and, two of the few people we know in PLM. :( Below isa picture of our schedule, taken by Jacq (hence, the really bad quality. Hahaha)

Hopefully, the enrollment process will be shorter and easier. Since it is scheduled so late (June 4), we probably won't have to worry about super long lines. Right now, there are 170+ in our batch (and hopefully more than that because other deserving people need to get in!) so the queue will not be super short. I'm actually dreading the enrollment day since people have said that the process is quite confusing.

I think I need to read up on the subjects we'll be taking, but I can't seem to find the drive to do so. :S I also have to fix my sleep cycle. I've only met my previous goal of sleeping by 11 ONCE. So here is my new (and hopefully, more attainable goal), try to sleep by 12midnight. Just lie down until you freaking close your eyes, do not go online past 12mn, it will be your downfall. Then try to wake up before 11AM!

Hopefully, Jacq and I (and our other MD aspiring friends) will be able to get through this surely difficult endeavor with good marks and lots of learning. I need to be hardworking and diligent! *Crosses fingers*
