Tesla Road Trip: Indiana, Illinois, Missouri

Recapping our first long trip in the Tesla Model 3, the long-range rear wheel drive (LR RWD). The experience exceeded my expectations. Autopilot eliminates most of the fatigue found in tradition internal combustion engine (ICE) cars. The Tesla Supercharging network worked perfectly. I used Abetterrouteplanner to calculate our charging stops. We could have made the first leg of the trip in three stops, but I inserted more stops for bathroom breaks, snacking, stretching and to stay fresh. With more frequent stops our charging time was around 15-20 minutes — just enough time to accomplish the aforementioned list.

I spent one night sleeping at a Supercharger. It may sound crazy, but a Tesla becomes an amazing HVAC tent with a built-in entertainment system.

Leica BEOON Rodagon APO versus Componon-S

Head-to-head the APO Rodagon bests the Componon-S. At least the two versions I tested, so sample variations could be in play. I may have a great Rodagon and and so-so Componon-S (SN 14440752). This version is not the copy with the green circle. See the image of the lens below. My Rodagon is not the later “N” version.

One other factor is actual focal length. The Rodagon is perfect to fill the frame of a B&W negative. The Componon must be a tad longer than 50mm as I cannot capture the entire frame with the Componon. Comparing the Bebe images below show the image loss with the Componon.

The first image below is from a Kodachrome 64 image showing the lower-left corner at 100%. Click the B&W images for a larger downloadable version. The extreme corners are better with the Rodagon.

Magic Lantern was needed to read the shutter count. This camera was used in a construction camera housing for several projects spanning a few years, shooting a photo every 15 minutes 24×7. When the vendor upgraded their software showing the number of images from the camera I decided to pull the camera proactively and replace it to avoid downtime.

The camera will now serve duty in our department at work until the shutter finally explodes.

B&H Photo Poor Shipping Protection

The last few item from B&H Photo have been badly packed to protect the contents of the package. They are now as bad as Amazon when it comes to packing merchandise. Photos below show a Sony A7 and a Sony lens from 2 separate oreders. The lens was a used copy. They didn’t even both to wrap the lens inside of the lens box. The lens shade was broken, which I have to assume happened in transit while the lens bounced around in the box. The lens hood was off the lens when I opened the box.

What you see below is all the padding that was in the box for each order. I’ve come to expect better from B&H Photo.
