Diana Artemis faces General Terrible and his Horrible Host.

For this week’s Illustration Friday, Immovable, I decided to put together a scene from my sketchbook on the Goddess of the Hunt facing some unsavory types. Yep, an unstoppable force meeting an immovable opponent. Or, vice versa.

Diana’s upper body is actually a cymbal stand. Don’t tell her, though – I don’t want her to feel bad that I haven’t finished drawing her.

I didn’t sweat General Terrible or the bad guys too much, because I wanted them to be out of focus.

This is an honest, kick-ass R&B pop song. The title is perfect. Because – really – anyone in this fellow’s situation has thought the exact same thing. Truly. Rock and Roll, Punk, and even Jazz were founded in the spirit of rebelliousness.What tremendous guts to put these lyrics to an obvious, money-in-the-bank hit.

Plus, I love the typography. Summer of Love goodness. Dance like there’s ass in your pants, for sure.

The suit is in the foreground, and the skeleton is on a separate sheet of paper, visible through the helmet.

This was tricky to photograph.  I took about 100 photos before settling on the one above. I like the skeleton blurry, rather than the suit. Here’s the inverse, where the suit is blurry:

And, in case you missed it, this is a joke.

There was some noise in the WordPress community a couple weeks ago about the premium theme developer (paid theme) that was violating the WordPress (GPL) license. He declared himself to be one of the three most important people in WordPress to the most important person in WordPress. The most important person in WordPress, in turn, sent out these certificates and t-shirts to many, many other most important people in WordPress. I’m sorry – it’s just too good not to share.

I am, however, going to attach a copy of this to my resume. And hang this in my office at work. I don’t think even the good Bava has one of these.

I drew the scene with India ink and cut it out.

It still needs some work – this was a test. I am encouraged. It’ll make a great pop-up book for the holidays.
